A Few Questions About Development

Flux

Recommended Posts

So I just have a few questions about the development of Pokemon Reborn for Amethyst or anyone that knows the answers to these...

1. What program does Amethyst use to create the music for the game? I like the style and I've always been interested in music creation for my own uses. If you possibly know what GlitchxCity uses as well, that would be much appreciated.

2. Is the scripting done in Java? If not, what kind of scripting is it? I know it's made on RPGXP but I haven't really worked much with that so I'm not sure how it all goes. <_<

3. When Amethyst draws up her custom sprites, how does she start? Does she use a drawing pad? Or does she use a mouse and just start pixel by pixel? I know for some characters she just edited existing sprites but does she do that for all of them?

4. When creating the maps for Reborn, do you use AdvanceMap? And back to spriting how do you go about making the custom area sprites?

This is all I can think of right now, but thanks for any answers and sorry for asking you to type so much Ame... Also, I'm not sure if any of this is meant to be kept private, so sorry if I asked for anything like that. Thanks!

The maps are done on RPG Maker, and I believe the scripting is in Ruby. That's all I know, really :/

Thanks for that much at least. ^_^ I feel really stupid about the mapmaking question now; I should have known that. <_< Now I only need the answers to 1 and 3...

To my knowledge none of the music is done by Amethyst, I believe all of it is done by GlitchxCity. I'm not really sure about what program is used for it, however. You could possibly try shooting them a message on Youtube.

And, as for how Ame does her custom sprites; I'm unsure. Actually, I believe there may be a tutorial thread floating about the forums somewhere; so it might not be a bad idea to search for it as well.

Other than that, that's all I really know.

Almost- the city overworld themes are done by Ame and I'm not sure but the evolution theme might be as well?

There was also one other I'm aware of; the lavender town remix used in the Wasteland:

The majority of the soundtrack is Glitch's though, yes.

You know, the readme is worth... well, reading.

I know that Ame uses Graphics Gale to make her custom area sprites, and probably her custom sprites as well.. As for how she does it, I have no idea but I would guess a graphics tablet is involved.

I loved how Ame added in the "Mud-kip" into the song though xD It just made me laugh when I heard it's cry

Well, I've already read it and there's not really anything in there pertaining to my questions, so...

Well I at least know the program now, thanks for that. I just need Ame to reply to this since she knows the answer to these...

Also, I think I read somewhere that GlitchxCity uses Massive to produce the instruments, but I don't know if that's true. Anyone know about that? And then I'd still like to know what program they use to put it all together... <_<

Some of these have already been answered, but for completion:

1- I use Fruity Loops, and occasionally GoldWave. As for Glitch, no idea, sorry.

2- Scripting is Ruby/RGSS

3- This is something I'll be showing in a video tutorial at some point, but as I mention in a video I have yet-to-upload most of what's in the Reborn game is edited, if only just to keep a consistent style with other Pokemon graphics.

However, when I am making something from scratch, I generally just draw the outline in black and then work on adding details to the form until I have solid line references. Texture and colour after that.

4- N/A but the current spriting videos I'm uploading do show me working on some custom area graphics. It's a matter of drawing them out and then spacing them into 32x32 tileset files. If people wish, I can make a video on organizing those files too.

There is a spriting thread, but as for the music, most of it is Glitch with a few other random artists. Then I did the city overworlds, as mentioned below, along with the Pokemon Center and Evolution musics.

Using a tablet for spriting is like using a machine gun to kill a moth. I HAVE one but it would be a waste of energy to try and sprite with that.

I loved how Ame added in the "Mud-kip" into the song though xD It just made me laugh when I heard it's cry

Actually, that was in the original o-o I just left it there because I figured since I was putting Mudkip in that area anyway~~~

Thanks Ame. :) That's pretty much everything I wanted to ask you right now. Now I just have to contact Glitch somehow...

I was thinking you could ask her on tumblr so I just checked out her Q/A tag to see if anyone else had asked and I found this:

hyperace said: Do you use any VST plugins in FL Studios? If so, what are some of them that you use?
Fadedline_zps6da78c1c.png

Edirol Orchestral: this one is my favorite, I’ve used it for all the strings you hear in recent pieces like Heartbender and Mt. Coronet. The only flaw in this VST is that you can’t save your instrument/preset and it resets them each time you open the project

Prodigious: getting that bass ready for some 8-bit :3

3x OSC: some more 8-bit goodness :D

Massive: Dub-step for DAYS! I love messing with this thing. There’s so many different sounds and controls to get the funkiest sounds. It really shines in the Lavender Town remix that I did about a year ago, and I used it in the 2nd Mt. Coronet remix as well.

Poizone: This should be a default in FLS and I just love this thing to death. I use it a lot in the 8-bit portions that I’ve been doing lately. And whenever I’m doing a Mystery Dungeon remix or something along those lines, I got to have this VST in the project. I also use some of the BASS presets in here to back up the 8-bit sounds. Groovy, groovy VST.

FL Keys (piano): gotta have it in everything I do.

FL Slayer (guitar): ohohohohohoho, that Johto Trainer remix I did, the majority of sounds came from this baby.

Sytrus: this one I use like 24/7/365. I have so many custom presets in here plus the 200+ defaults, it’s just insane! I love this thing so much that I use it in every single remix/arrangement. When in doubt, go with the Sytrus (or Edirol Orchestra)

So it would seem she also uses FL. I also use the Sytrus plug in, for the record, but I may have to look into some of those other ones...

Wow, thanks a ton! This is far beyond what I expected you to answer with so thanks again! This pretty much wraps it up then. You are amazing Ame... :D
