You have my sword, And shield

Aegislash (M/F) @ Life orb

Trait: Stance Change

EVs: +252 HP, +252 Attack, +4 sp. def

Brave (+Atk, -Spd) Nature

- Kings Shield

- Swords Dance/Iron Head

- Sacred Sword/Iron Head

- Shadow Sneak/Shadow Claw

LOOK AT THIS GUY, its a Sword and Shield, and i LOVE HIM... Aegislash is the most interesting pokemon to have came out in X and Y, and with his special ability making him Interesting to use, but i will focus on how i use him.

Stance change... his own ability and an interesting one, the ability makes him switch stances, from sword to shield and vice versa, depending on the move he uses, if he uses an attacking move he switches to Sword, and when he uses an defensive move (kings shield... but not protect for some reason.... i still haven't figured it out) he goes into Shield Stance... and this is the most IMPORTANT part of Aegis... in Sword his stats go to 50 HP, 150 Attack, 50 Def, 150 Sp. Attack, 150 Sp. def, and 60 Speed... while in Shield... the attacking stats and the Defensive stats change places.

So if you haven't noticed.. this thing has CRAZY high attack but little speed... but the thing is... YOU DON'T WANT SPEED.... AT ALL, the reason being is that with no speed you can switch from shield to Sword stance relatively safely because of your Huge defense in Shield... just remember though... Be safe and never stay in sword mode.... you can easily get one shot.... and if you get confused and hit yourself in sword mode... you just KO'd yourself..

Anyways TO THE REAL PART... Aegislash i run life orb... for more damage... why else... anyways Brave nature to Reduce his speed for more attack. Kings Shield is basically Protect (with the same priority as well) though unlike protect, it doesn't stop Status moves BUT if you get hit by a move that makes contact... you Lower your opponents attack by 2 Stages... thats a Swords dance right there... Swords Dance or Iron head is up to you.. Swords dance if you Want to Super sweep or Iron for More coverage. Sacred sword is the next move cause... it doesn't care about the opponents Boosted defenses... only their original... but if you don't want it and didn't get iron head... get iron head. Last move depends really.... Shadow sneak has Priority and can kill off anything that just managed to survive though if you don't kill with it your going to be in for a world of pain... while Shadow claw lacks priority but makes sure you are 100% safe cause you will be in Shield form before the hit.

I'd like to suggest a slight variation...

Aegislash (M/F) @ Weakness Policy

Trait: Stance Change

EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 SpA (or 252 HP/200 Atk/56 SpA...etc etc)

Nature: Brave (-Spe, +Atk)

-King's Shield

-Shadow Sneak

-Swords Dance

-HP Water/Sacred Sword

Essentially the same strategy as the set above but with the Weakness Policy you can set up quicker against your opponent. This requires a bit of smart play as you need to time the play correctly. Aegislash's defenses in its Shield Forme are considerable so it shouldn't get taken out by non-banded/specs opponents. If you Swords Dance on the same turn you get hit with...bam! 3x Atk straight off the bat, allowing for a super-powerful priority Shadow Sneak!

You could go with the standard Sacred Sword as the 4th move, but remember that Weakness Policy also gives you +2 SpA so it is possible to use that to your advantage, though it may not be favourable in some cases due to loss of coverage. I've put HP Water as a suggestion to take out Fire and Ground types but you could go with STAB moves (Flash Cannon etc) or another HP to deal with specific threats. if you want you could even sacrifice some Atk EVs (with the amount of SDs you're getting off I doubt it'd make much of a difference) for SpA EVs.

If you know how to use Aegislash well you can seriously mess up your opponent, tricking them into thinking you're going to use a certain move when you're actually doign something different. There's an element of luck to it all, but if you ride that wave you can set up the way to a full team sweep. By no means is this set definitely better than the one above. If you want something different, then...here you go lol.

I actually found a counter for Ageislash, besides Torkoal, trick Meowstic is the best counter, as you will give Ageislash a choice scarf, forcing him to either swap or get stuck into attack mode.

I've found that tricking assault vest onto him works amazingly. He can't setup, OR defend for the rest of the game, no matter how you switch him out.

I though Assault Vest prevent use of anything other than attack moves though? I you can trick that, it would be really good though, like stupid good, it would ruin a lot of stuffs recovery and would like entirely break Wall sets for the part (which is why I have a hard time seeing you being able to trick it)

Under normal circumstances, yes, and that's why I specified Klutz would be be necessary to be able to do it; normally, Assault Vest prevents the holder from using any non damaging moves. In any case this is an Aegislash thread not how to counter Aegislash thread- let's try to keep it like that

True lol.

Here's the set I run, not too much different from the norm, but I put a little twist on it:

Aegislash (M/F) @ King's Rock

EVs: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 4Sp. Def

Nature: Adamant (-Sp. Atk, +Atk)

King's Shield

Shadow Sneak

Iron Head

Swords Dance

Kings rock and Iron Head turn aegislash (atleast mine) into a fairly reliable flincher. I always get them in the most clutch situation. See how well it works for you.

Aegis Souls

Nature: Brave

Item: Life Orb

EVS: 252 Attack 252 Special attack 4 HP

Moves

Shadow Ball

Iron Head

Sacred Sword

King's Shield

Agislash is like the Swiss army knife of pokemon, as he can do so much, and is very versatile. The key here is shadowball, as if you get burned, your useless, even with swords dances, you will not be able to hit hard, but shadow ball will still be at full power. Iron head checks fairies, sacred sword kills off dark types leads like T-tar, and Grenenja, and King Shield Stops physical sweepers, but shadow ball on this monster is just great, as you now have a 100% solid check for gengar, and other ghosts. You loose priority, but shadow sneak is useless if your burned, and Rotom- W is common with will-o-wisp. Just give this set a whirl
