Sapphire
Thought I'd make a topic for the poor, underrated Avalugg. Name (F) @ LeftoversTrait: SturdyEVs: 252 HP, 252 Defense, 6 AttackImpish- Avalanche- Recover- Curse- Toxic Avalugg is an interesting Pokémon. Extremely high defense, and great HP, as well as decent attack. If it weren't for his typing he'd make an amazing physical tank. As it is, he still manages to do quite well. This is the set I run, and I find that it works very well. Recover and Leftovers provide some easy recovery when going against physical attackers, and Avalugg can outheal pretty much everything-even SE moves. The only think that would do more damage than recover is a High Jump Kick Blaziken, and even then, only just. Still, if facing something like Conkulduur, Avalugg isn't the best choice. Curse is your basic buffing move, and after a couple of curses Avalugg can take pretty much anything on. Avalanche is your basic STAB, and As Avalugg will always be going last [Avalanche has -2 priority] it will always hit at 120 base power + STAB. Even with no attack EVs, this will still take off a good chunk of health. Toxic is there for support, though you can also run Rapid Spin if you're particularly worried about hazards. Sturdy means that he can survive a hit against special attackers [who will always do massive damage to Avalugg], as well as survive a hit from a SD or c-banded Talonflame and then kill it with Avalanche. Sapphire
Which is what exactly? It's just a troll post...
AveMatic
I'm not trying to troll here lol. A lot of people think that Avalugg looks like I coffee table.
Sapphire
Except you are trolling, because this is meant to be a serious discussion topic, not a joke topic where people put troll sets in.
AveMatic
Okay, well I apologize. But now that I think about it, I might have a real set for it, though idk if its 100% possible because Ice Shard is necessary.
AveMatic
Okay, it can't get Ice Shard, but hope this helps: Avalugg (M/F) @ LeftoversTrait: SturdyEVs: 252 Atk, 4 Def, 252 HPNature- Avalanche- Curse- Earthquake/Stone Edge- Recover/Rapid Spin Upon farther investigation, I've found Avalugg to be a bit more Viable in competitive play. Its limited STAB movepool prevents it from getting Ice Shard and other great physical Ice moves, but Avalanche still packs a punch as long as he tanks physical hits. With curse it'll just boost his already great Atk and Def stats while getting rid of speed that it already doesn't have, while Earthquake gives it steel, rock and fire type coverage. Though Stone Edge would help against Talonflame, EQ is a better for overall coverage. If you plan to get a wall going then recover is a good asset, but if you need a spinner go with RS. Deleted User
The problem with Avalugg is, you have a pokemon that is a Wall, but it's typing is terrible defensively. Weak to: Fighting Steel Fire Rock Fighting, Fire, and Rock, are three of the most common types that are used and Steel is more useful now because of it's strength against Fairy. Raindrop Valkyrie
Well yea lol. He is most likely going to be an NU/RU Spinner, as he has only one resist which is Ice. Everything else is either super-effective or hits for regular damage, which is not cool for a wall. He might have been slightly more useful if He actually got Ice Shard (slightly, mean it wouldn't make him OU material like at all, or maybe it could you never know (I highly doubt it though))

I still don't understand why Ice doesn't resist Flying and/or Grass types, heck it could even resist Normal type moves based on logic (then again this is Pokémon where logic is an endangered species). Noivy
Nice Special Sweeper. Shame if something happened to it... Krahdun (Avalugg) (M) @ Cutsap BerryTrait: SturdyEVs: 252 HP, 252 Defense, 6 AttackImpish Nature- Avalanche- Recover- Earthquake- Mirror Coat Avalugg's got a good HP pool, and Physical Bulk. Special wise, it's terrible. Abuse that HP stat against Special Attackers with Mirror Coat and Sturdy! But wait, there's more! Order now, and he'll throw in a Cutsap Berry, giving a free move of priority, absolutely free! Steel, Fire dragging you down? Earthquake! Stalling Setup measures? Recover! There's a bunch of utility to be used here, but how you use it is how you will decide the game.
Sapphire
I never considered using a Custap berry...If you kill their last special mon with coat, then spam recover against a physical mon...Nice. =D
Lord Emvee
[RIP, Titanic] Avalugg (F) @ Assault Vest Trait: Sturdy EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 SDef Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd) - Avalanche - Gyro Ball - Earthquake - Stone Edge / Rapid Spin Though Avalugg is known for its amazing Defense stat, take into consideration it's Attack stat. Avalugg has an amazing attack that hits 366 with Adamant. The only thing wrong with it really is its Special Defense. This is easily fixed by using an Assault Vest (which is what the set is all about). With 4 Attacks, Avalugg has pretty amazing coverage. Avalanche hits extremely hard with Avalanche, as well as Gyro Ball due to its Brave Nature. Earthquake hits Steel types that wall Avalugg, such as Heatran, Aegislash, Mega Mawile, etc, while Stone Edge allows you to beat certain types of Pokemon such as Volcarona, Rotom-H, etc. If you're in need of a way to get rid of Hazards though and you're not really finding Stone Edge of much use, it can be replaced for Rapid Spin.
