Administrators Amethyst Posted November 15, 2013 Administrators Share Posted November 15, 2013 So as I mentioned previously I'm playing around with controls for the 10.5 release. My goal is to make them more intuitive to new players who are probably coming from emulators. According to the past poll, almost everyone uses the default Z = A and X = B set up, where as C = A and Z = Run currently in Reborn. I've already modified it so that Z is now the A key, and that is for sure. But originally, in order to correlate with the space bar of VBA being speed up, I was going to have space be the new run key. However, I didn't realise that I had gotten so accustomed using space instead of Z for A, and it's a little jarring for me. I'm worried about others sharing this experience- but this will only apply if many people also use space as their 'A' key. So, would it be more comfortable for you to use space as Run or as a Talk key?
Deleted User
Well if you've already made it so that the Z key is now the A button like emulators, I think it'd make more sense for space to be the run button. I personally never use the space bar to talk. Heck I didn't know that was an option even.
Seehan
Can there be a setting to retain the current key bindings? Im rather used to them now :/
Administrators Amethyst Posted November 15, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted November 15, 2013 Can there be a setting to retain the current key bindings? Im rather used to them now :/ Hm. It would be pretty impractical. I mean, where possible I'm trying to make it as generally compatible as I can. For instance, I moved the 'Register' key (previously) F5 down to Shift, but F5 still works. (Although Shift was previously also a 'talk' button, so hopefully no one was too used to that). At the very least, the Z key will -definitely- be the A key. But, other keys can be A too. For instance, if you use the C key as A, that will probably still work. And anyway, missing out on the Z key to run is less important since the toggle running feature was added with E10 (that'll still be on S unless someone has a better idea)

Administrators Amethyst Posted November 15, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted November 15, 2013 Well, we're split down the middle. That's awkward. As ambivalent as I also am about it, I'm leaning towards leaving it on 'Run'. If it becomes a huge issue, it can be reverted.
ITnKU
Is there a way to make it customizable? That way everyone's happy.
Administrators Amethyst Posted November 16, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted November 16, 2013 Pokemon Raptor had an option like that, and I've tried several times to find the script they used- but to no avail. Even so, that would only run at the very beginning of the game. ....crazy thought, what if I made spacebar do both?

Alphagar
I voted for talk, but having it do both would be awesome. But would that affect the toggle for run or no?

Conquest
I honestly like the current layout, only thing I see as an improvement is F5 being switched to shift. Was never a fan of VBA for the whole hold space to speed up the emulator my reasoning for this is because while the speed up helped other games in short bursts. Pokemon was a lot slower especially when looking for low encounter rate rare pokemon in hacks, holding down the spacebar for 15 mins to find a Ralts in Liquid crystal got old fast (And that was being lucky Aron took me 50 mins) anyways off emulators back to Reborn. I like the Run and Talk button being the same one and I like them being next to the cancel button. Seriously the controls are not hard to learn at all, anyways thats my two cents. Yuukei
I got a question, And I dont know the plausability of this, but why cant WASD be movement keys as well, from what I can tell they dont do anything as of yet, and I feel like WASD as movement, shift as the key item, space to run and some keys on the the other side of the key board for start, a, and b would just be more comfortable of a setup. Administrators Amethyst Posted December 8, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted December 8, 2013 If I change the running toggle key I could maybe do that but I'd have to take a look at how those keys are set up within the program currently. I may not have access to the W.
Yuukei
Yeah I didn't know if it was I just thought it would be a good suggestion. Thanks for answering and not just shooting me down.

Yuukei
Ame wouldn't do that o.o She's a good listener. I am honestly sad I am coming into this as late as I am. It is really a whole heck of a lot of fun, I love the Jukebox thing in the pokegear. Also curious as to the possibilty of a way to make it fullscreen, unless I am just being silly and missing it. Alphagar
Yeah. Ame has really given us an awesome game to play. As for the fullscreen, if you press Alt+Enter you sort of get a full screen mode. Not really though. Always check the read me files. :
