AngelGozen
I signed up a while ago, and to be honest I can’t remember exactly when, probably around the time I found out that Pokemon Reborn existed. I chose not to introduce myself to you yet as I thought you weren’t ready to meet one of us Angels. Nor did you deserve to know about our presence amongst your spieces. (The truth being that I just didn’t know what I wanted to say just yet, but try to ignore that part please). Not all of us have genders, but we can choose to take one if it suits us. That is why you may think of me as a “he”. I mean, you know… A male. I actually do look like a human male, body and all. Okay let’s be serious now. I’m AngelGozen, but I’d rather you called me Angel please =) I’m a guy, who likes to play Pokémon games, and I found Pokémon Reborn as I was looking for a good RPG Maker Made Pokémon, that actually was not just an attempt to copy GF’s games, or just another aborted project (I find a lot of those). Needless to say I was really satisfied when I found it. I love the dark atmosphere, and also the maturity of this game. It is the first game where the “bad guys” really are bad, and actually fight for real. About me… Well I live in Lyon, south-east of France, and I'm 22-ish (in about 2 weeks). My English may be a little broken, so sorry about that. I like books, I read a lot of them. My favorite ones being about witches/shapeshifters/vampires/gods and all that. I have a fascination for angels (in case you didn’t notice) not only religion related ones, but them too. I would say that me being gay is irrelevant, but seeing that this game is the first one where a character is gay, I don’t see a reason for me not to say it (I did play a romhack where the Daycare couple was actually two married guys. Was funny, but not as nice as seeing Cain =) ) Also, I like writing. A lot. Stupid things, little stories, myths, thoughts. Whatever comes to my mind. Seeing the Fairy type gym leader introduced to the game as a non-gendered person was really nice, and it made me think : why couldn't we have a non-gendered protagonist for those of us who don’t want to be male or female, or want to be both ? So maybe we can discuss it here, or I’ll open a thread elsewhere if needed, ‘cause I really think the idea should be at least considered =) The game being really tough, but not too much is what makes it almost perfect to me. “Almost” because nothing really is perfect, and also because to my mind Cain being the only gay character (for now anyway) I find it a bit sad that he is the exact gay cliché. Great Job anyway ! For mere humans, you do impress me ! In the “HowTo introduce yourself” thread, I see a big smile is required, so here it is : ________ ______ \______ \ /_____/ | | \ /_____/ | ` \ /_______ / \/ Edited November 18, 2013 by AngelGozen
Administrators Amethyst Posted November 18, 2013 Administrators Share Posted November 18, 2013 Hi, and welcome! To address some of your points about the game: Firstly, Cain's actually not gay! Most people assume that he is because they play a male character, but he'll hit on a female player too. So, he's actually pansexual. He just happens to be really pervy a lot of the time so people tend to think he's gay. Secondly, even if he were, he wouldn't be the only homosexual character! Although for some of the others, either their sexuality isn't nearly as central to their character because they aren't so open about it, or it's not story-relevant, or it is story relevant and we just haven't gotten there yet~ One example of this is Amaria- you'll notice she makes several suggestive references to a then-unintroduced character, 'Tania'. Amy isn't exclusively homosexual (just a strong preference to girls), but the lesbian relationship between her and Tania is canonical (and not exactly a spoiler, since it's referenced in a lot of places both in-game and on this site). Now, as for your idea of having a non-binary protagonist option... Hum. Well, my original plan was to eventually include up to four options of trainer-appearance for each gender, however the way in which I had to code the Tauros riding stuff steps on my total of eight character slots, so I would only be able to do two options for each gender, which hardly seems worth it. Using those last two slots for a non-binary protagonist actually seems like a decent idea... I just might.

AngelGozen
Oh okay, my bad then, I suppose i shouldn't have assumed his being gay. Can't wait for whatever comes next in the game. (6th gen stuff especially) Aaron you can have Cain, he's not really my type. I like my men rough Edited November 18, 2013 by AngelGozen
Administrators Amethyst Posted November 18, 2013 Administrators Share Posted November 18, 2013 Follow up to my previous thoughts about the non-binary protagonist: It is something I would like to do, and I intended to, however, as I sat down to think of what I might have that character look like, I realised that I'm not comfortable, if I'm going to be adding a third protagonist, with forcing players to choose between yet another white character. At the same time, I don't feel that it's fair to make the non-binary character dark-skinned, because then I feel like I would be forcing people wishing to identify under that color tone into choosing a gender option they may not be comfortable with. However, I do have two character slots open, and as a correction to the above-in saying that I do not feel that it would be worth providing only one alternate appearance, I had failed to consider alternate skin tones (which was also part of the original plan, I had just forgotten) So I think I'll use those two spots to make dark-skinned protagonists. Unfortunately, that won't leave room for a non-binary character unless I'm able to rework how the Tauros events work, but... Sadly, I feel like that's a higher priority. AngelGozen
Well yeah it makes sense actually, I'm sure you'll figure something out, with or without a non-binary protagonist, I'm just glad the idea didn't go to waste.
