Breeding question

Hello guys,

new to breeding and on my first reborn play through - loving it so far.

I have a jynx that I crossbred to some decent IVs and a Buneary I found as male for the hp IV. Screenshots below

----------------

the smoochums I am getting have far worse IVs than the parent(s) especially the mother. Now, I realize it can't be as easy as cross breeding into perfect 31 IVs to get the desired traits but I am also confused as to how these values are assigned. It would be nice if someone could explain that or even let me know the next steps to ideally get a perfect Smoochum,

Even though this is my first playthrough, am only at 6 badges and am itching to progress forward, I kindly ask to refrain from just telling me to move on with the game with a good enough Jynx; I wish to have a perfect companion to accompany me in this adventure and I am finding out breeding is quite enjoyable. Thanks!

Ok so, first of all, the destiny knot passes down 5 random ivs of the parents (5 in total from both, not 5 each) to the baby pokemon. The power items, as I'm assuming you already know since you mentioned the buneary is for HP and it's holding a power weight, can each be used to pass down a specific stat to the baby mon. The rest are assigned on random. In theory, you could just keep doing what you're already doing over and over until you get lucky enough for 4-5 of jynx's stats to be passed down and maybe be the right ones, but honestly that can be extremely time consuming in some cases, so it's best to use a ditto.

Now, since you're at 6 badges, you should already be past the point of being able to obtain the first ditto. I'm assuming you might have missed that since you didn't mention it, and I'm not sure if you can still go back and get it after leaving that place as I haven't tried that before myself. At this point, I would normally just offer you to breed you a smoochum myself since I've managed to get a perfect iv ditto, but as you've mentioned that you've found breeding to be quite enjoyable, I can instead try trading you my ditto from an older save file.

So, generally speaking, all eggs inherit 3 IVs in any random combination from their two parents, with the remaining 3 being completely randomly generated. Destiny Knot being held by either parent changes the number of inherited stats from the parents to 5 and therefor causes only 1 to be randomly generated. It is *possible* to roll your 30/x/31/31/31/31 Smoochum from this pair of parents, but the odds are slim when Buneary only has one stat you want and none of the others. In order to have generally better offspring, you need to have generally better parents.

Your problem here is that Jynx is a female-only species, so you will never get a replacement father just by breeding Smoochum.

The solution is breeding a perfect 'mon of some other species first, a species that can both be male and is also compatible with Jynx's egg group.

Thank you to both - very clear. I think the quickest path for me to a perfect Jynx would be to breed a humanoid egg group perfect pokemon to breed Jynx and eventually rebreed an evolved smoochum with perfect IVs (as I understand it - to give yourself the best chance at perfect IVs both parents should have perfect IVs) as Elliot Gale suggested
