Eviora
Hi everyone! I'm new to this, and apparently not the best at Pokémon, cause I started to find it very hard very fast. >.> I chose Torchic as my starter and later obtained an Ekans, Rattata, and Pari.... electric squirrel. Those three aren't exactly long term team member material in such a hard game, so could anyone give me some tips to help me find some Pokémon who are? Thanks a ton! elfen
Well you get Mime Jr. early on, like in the beginning. He can be useful once it learns mimic and evolves. Also, you can get a biberal, to level 15 and trade it to get an 2abra. You could get a Crobat. Just get a level 2 zubat and make sure it does not die, and once it evolves to golbat, check the friendship and do the saloon thing and level up! so Level 23 Crobat? MAgby. Garados? Electrike? These are a few early game ones.
Eviora
Cool! Is the Pokémon that the guy at the very beginning of the game wants to sell me a Magikarp? Also, is there an Exp Share early on? I really appreciate the help. =)
T-Raz
Yup its a Magikarp, but its costly.@_@ Lets see, Trubbish is also good, helped me out against the 2nd leader & by the time your Torchic evolves you'll be ready for 2nd gym.=P As for the EXP Share, its an ID lottery prize iirc, but that should be available after the 1st gym. Khayoz
I second Trubbish. It may look useless, but Acid Spray is extremely useful due to its secondary -2 Sp. Def effect. On top of that, Trubbish can learn Toxic Spikes which is also really useful in battle.

It was definitely a game changer for me.

Eviora
Okay, I'll find that Trubbish! Thanks for the tips, everyone. =)
helion
get a sharpedo (join team aqua), it is really powerful and it will save you tons of time
Alphagar
YES! Sharpedo rocks! His speed boost is just amazing for the next couple of gyms.
Conquest
You don't have to join Team Aqua to get Sharpedo, also Team Magma is the only way to get Chinchou for the moment. Although you might need the good rod to fish for Carvanah which is available later on, haven't tried for it with the old rod. Anyways if theres any pokemon I reccomend, its Crobat its great for most of the gyms except for the ice and psychic. (This of course didn't prevent my Crobat from getting a critical on Acrobatics and putting that annoying Walrein down)
ShatteredSkys
Okay, I'll find that Trubbish! Thanks for the tips, everyone. =) make sure it's ability is STENCH not STICKY HOLD, if it has stichy hold it gets weak armour when it evolves which makes it hard to use, i had to ditch mine because of this don't make my mistake. Oh and everybody seems to use gardevoir, crobat, and scraggy since they are pretty strong (magnezone used to be a part of this group but now you can't evolve it until you complete the side quest in ep 10)
Chacal
you can get an electrike in rainny days next to the 1st gym, i cough it in the begging of my game and hadnt change it in any battle , you also can get a vulpix in the saloon if you show a pokemon with a good relationship, i remove mine from my team because his ability affected in a negative way my other pokemons
RelentingRapidash
you can also get a ralts for a powerful gardevoir by giving money to the bum guy and also DO NOT pass the your level limit I had to restart my game at first cause of it lol
