Administrators Amethyst Posted December 5, 2013 Administrators Share Posted December 5, 2013 Okay, so with these sprites, a lot of them are kind of subpar and a lot of the rest are great starts but need more polishing before putting them in. This topic is going to be a reference list for myself and other spriters who want to take a swing at altering these sprites- 'correcting' them, yes. So here is what we have currently: Remember, anything with a white background I'm considering fit-for-use as is. My judgment isn't perfect and I'm also open to other alterations if they look better. The goal here is not to be perfect or artistic, but to have sprites that are passable, accurate and quality enough that they don't become a distraction in-game. What we don't want is people to think, mid-battle when Frogadier is sent out, "...Huh, the collar foam looks weird." It just needs to be smooth and styled enough to fit in with everything else. So, here is my analysis of the things with dark backgrounds: Floette: The top of the eyes are a little weird. We need to add the spade at the bottom of its 'tail'. The heart shape of its ears can be better defined, too. The green part of the body should be darker than the flower; not match it (see official art for palette). The shading and outlining of the flower itself can also be smoothed out. Honedge: Shape is a good start but needs stylistic correction to be shaded more like the BW2 style. The blade should also be sharpened. The current shading is also weird on the blade. Correct the color and brightness on its ribbon. The sheath is looking a little squiiiished. Colours of the sheath might be wrong; see official art. Doublade: Lots of the same problems as Honedge; the style of shading is wrong. The fingers of the ribbon are a little squished. Also needs some colour correction. Aegislash-Blade: Smooth out the shading at the tip of the sword. Smootht he outline on the sword's body. The hilt's curve is a little too curved. Smooth out the ribbon's finger. Aegislash-Shield: The hilt is too curved again. Work on the shading at the tip of the sword and the ribbon- its too dark at these edges. Skrelp: Mouth is just a little long. Shape of its legs just needs a little smoothing, as does the bag in front of its eye. As you probably suspect the spreadsheet above is just one giant image, but it won't be hard to download that and crop it for editing. Then if you make any changes, just upload the smaller section of the sprite. I'll eventually get to this myself but the topic is open in case anyone wants to save me some work, since I am presently still working on the missing backsprites. Chevaleresse
I'll give a few of these a shot in my free time. Let me get home before I decide which ones.
Administrators Amethyst Posted December 5, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted December 5, 2013 Since I can't work on backsprites during class, I started working on this already; I'm trying to knock the more difficult ones out of the way so that you guys can clean up the rest. So far I've done Chesnaught, Xerneas and Klefki, and I'm doing Espurr and then the Littelo line next. Can't upload them from here but don't worry about those. Calvius
So I'm totally not into pokemon spriting, anyways I gave it a try. I just randomly picked some and editet them, here are my results so far: Pyroar - Connected body with tail and tried to make his eyes look less flat Quilladin - Removed the shadow next to the ear and added some at the tail Fletchinder - Redrew the shape on the chest, tail stripes are now white and the shadow is improved at the feet Delphox - For now I only adjusted the colors, maybe I will do the other stuff tomorrow Vivillon - Kind of rounded the corners on the upper wings and edited the eyes
grasssnake485
Can I take the blade pokemon and floette? I have a ton of free time on my hands.. (do you want them BW2 style or X/Y style?)
Administrators Amethyst Posted December 8, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted December 8, 2013 B/W2 definitely definitely definitely I've been tardy in updating this; will do so in an hour or two
Administrators Amethyst Posted December 9, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted December 9, 2013 First post is updated; removed the Pokemon I did from the list, image is updated, and marked a few more Pokemon for colour correction... maybe I'll use a different background colour for those. Eh, later. Calvius- I took a look at the edits you made, and they don't look bad but there's a different problem. It looks like you used some kind of blending tool on photoshop or something? The problem with doing that is it results in a loooot of different colours (by colours here I mean specific shades of brightness/saturation/hue) which becomes really messy and impossible for sprites to efficiently work with. Like, in Quilladin's tail alone there were around fifteen different colour shades x,x
grasssnake485
Hmm, I just noticed spomething wrong with honedge's evolution line. The tips are rounded.
Calvius
@Ame, I don't remember doing something like this, I don't know what happened. I could do the ones you want to take again and try to watch my steps to hopefully find the point where I messed up
Administrators Amethyst Posted December 13, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted December 13, 2013 Okay, I've done everything except the requested Honedge line + Floette The tips of honedge are rounded, but that's what needs working on too I can easily do them myself if it comes to it; in the meantime I'll put up the backsprite topic tomorrow. Administrators Amethyst Posted December 16, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted December 16, 2013 If you had the link that might be helpful. As for Pikachu, we're only adjust Gen 6 pokemon. There's no need to modify older ones.

Like, in Quilladin's tail alone there were around fifteen different colour shades x,x GIMP has a severe problem with sprites---DO NOT USE IT. It will fuck up your colors like they did on Calvius. I've run into this problem while working on my Minato sprite mod. Had to switch back to Photoshop to undo all the damage. Incidentally, I decided to reshade Delphox because why not. ...holy shit, less than 14 colors. Added: I've always thought that the picture depicted Floette with the spade angled. All I did for this was correct the outline, but I'm doing the fixes mentioned. Will that do? Edited December 17, 2013 by Manes
grasssnake485
Honedge Artstudio's giving me transparency problems... Doublade is almost finished, but Artstudio keeps crashing on aegislash for some reason... Edit: Anyone want to take doublade? I nearly finished but my glitchy ipad painted the entire thing black when i tried to erase something. :L Edited December 17, 2013 by grasssnake485
Administrators Amethyst Posted December 17, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted December 17, 2013 Oh, goodness. Well, I can handle Doublade and the others if you'd like. But uh, for Honedge, could you save the image as a png instead (I hope you have it saved under a different format already)? When you save anything as a .pg the quality distorts and it immediately renders sprites unusable.
Calvius
Btw, isn't it weird that Flabébé and Floette have a red flower, but Florges has a yellow flower around it's neck? I think it's kind of weird ..
Calvius
isn't that better? I did nothing except recolouring the flower thing. And hopefully it didn't mess up like last time D:
