Jumping Spider

Ariados @ Life Orb
Trait: Insomnia
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Bug Bite
- Poison Jab / Toxic Spikes
- Return
- Sucker Punch

Get the "jump" on any incoming Psychics with Sucker Punch. I hate that this is the best I could come up with, on a Trick Room team in 4th gen... Moving on to 5th gen, Ariados is still slow and frail to a point that Trick Room or Priority is almost [i]necessary[/i] to even hit anything, and still its best STAB remains Bug Bite. Mediocre at best... If only it had Technician. Without Trick Room, the nature could be changed to Jolly or Adamant; not that it makes much of a difference. But, because of its existing ability Insomnia, a better place to use it - if you're going to at all - is in Ubers, as a solid (read: ...it's possible) counter to Darkrai. Focus Blast is quad resisted, and Dark Void fails entirely. Not that it can take a Dark Pulse particularly well, but... Ariados was never the best Pokemon in the first place. It could work as a Toxic Spiker in lower tiers, perhaps in place of Poison Jab due to Bug Bite covering Grass-types AND more. Alternatively, more or less its only set up move is Agility, which, with maxed speed brings it to 392. Very nice, but the problem in that is that it has almost no offense, regardless. Hone Claws exists, but to take more than one hit is very unlikely in Ariados' case. Long story short, as awesome as Ariados is as a Pokemon... Try to find something better.

[Uber Lead]
[Ariados] (M/F) @ [Focus Sash]
Trait: [Insomnia]
EVs: [252 Atk/252 Speed/4 HP]
[Nature] Adamant
- Shadow Sneak
- Sucker Punch
- Bug Bite
- Toxic Spikes

[This is a moveset designed to lead in the Uber tier. For reasons following, it is a poor lead in other tiers. Anyways, You may note 2 things, double priority and the Insomnia ability. Insomnia makes it immune to sleep from somewhat common Darkrai leads, or any other random sleep inducer. Then there's Shadow Sneak and Sucker Punch. While Ariados is not incredibly strong, you cans till put a dent in weak leads such as Deoxys S or A, and other powerful Psychic types such as Mewtwo. Beware; heavily invested bulky Psychic types can easily take your offensive. In any case, Toxic Spikes is your "I know I can't hurt this guy, so i'll do something else" move. You can also substitute and of your moves to include Toxic. In case you can't figure it out, Bug Bite is your lead off move against frail Psychic types, it's when you cripple their Health that you switch to priority. Remember, Sucker Punch relies on prediction, so know your lead match ups. So, if you want to try something new in the Uber tier, why not use Ariados? Sure, it fares poorly against some Pokemon, but that is true for any lead.]
