Ethic watched as a white shock-wave emerged from where the other young man's larvitar stood and headed straight towards his team.

He looked over to Nova

Well... maybe I was a bit to quick to judge... Oh well... guess I should do something... otherwise this'll turn into another situation like my fight with lance...

Ethic let out a slight chuckle, calling back the memory of how he had lost 2-0 to lance... then reprimanded himself, he'd been cocky back then too... and that's probably what screwed him over in the end.

"No... no more of that. I let my arrogance decide my actions in a battle once and it ended badly. now is the time to use some logic..."

He looked over at Politician, the snake eyeing him, hoping for some directions. Ethic began drafting up a plan...

if nova gets hit by that... it'll probably be lights out... damn it... I was so busy underestimating the guy that I didn't notice the type advantage he has over my team.

then he remembered the TM he had used to teach his Ferroseed a move or two...

"Well... Earthquake can't hit anything it can't get to... so..."

He looked over to Ambar.

"Ambar, quickly, get in front of Nova and Politician and use Protect!!"

The Ferroseed rolled across the barren ground, stopping in front of the two pokemon as Ethic had ordered, Throwing up a wall of shimmering energy just as the Shock-wave closed in, causing it to split off into two and miss the Team entirely, as well as a second shock-wave that Ethic hadn't even noticed...

They must've used something like bulldoze to try and do a double dose of damage...

The Protect went down just after the second shock wave hit, causing Ferroseed to take a little of the force of the attack directly onto it's self, but otherwise leaving the team still unscathed

Ethic looked over at Ambar, worrying just how much damage it had caused

"You all right?" he asked. the spikey creature merely turned and gave him a determined, yet still pained look. Ethic knew that Ambar was hurting, but would pull through it to help out.

Now was the time to start going on the offensive; Ethic wasn't going to hold back.

"Alright then, Nova, let's level this playing field a bit!" he shouted as he tore his hand out of his pocket, holding a fire stone he'd bought from the Celadon Department store back when he was still taking the Kanto League Challenge. He tossed the crimson stone through the air. Knowing what to do, Nova leapt up and caught it in her teeth, her body taking on a red glow that after a few seconds faded into the pure white glow given off by evolution. knowing it would take a few moments, Ethic directed his attention to giving Politician and Ambar orders.

"Politician, the biggest threat to us here is that Larvitar! so take it out with Aqua Tail! Ambar, you use Seed Bomb to make sure the job gets done!"

Ambar's thorns became engulfed in a green light, forming glowing oval-like objects which it then launched across the field, and Politicain's tail took on a blueish glow and it uncoiled itself, springing it's body into the air towards the Foe and letting out a hiss as it closed in behind the glowing green oval shaped objects Ambar had just launched.

"Tera dodge that!" The larvitar deftly dodged the aqua tail, but, airborne targets arent the best at dodging projectiles - the seed bomb smashed Tera in her face, and sent her flying, knocked out.

Now that I know that seviper uses aqua tail, that means Star's in danger.

"Star, Drill run! Mohawk, dig. Get that Seviper out of the way, then focus on the ferroseed!"

Star the larvesta started spinning, then shot off like a bullet towards Politician, while Mohawk's dug a deep hole and hid himself in it.

Lionel simply released the Druddigon without waiting for advice. "I didn't peg you as the hands-on type. Anyway, you need to prove to your Druddigon that you are most definitely in charge. Dragons respect power, and you need to demonstrate some."

(( >.<))

Politician recoiled in pain as the Larvesta slamed into him, sending the large serpent several feet back.

Ethic looked at what had just happened in disbeleif

"Whoa, wait a sec, how the hell did a LARVESTA just use a move like DRILL RUN?"

He ground his teeth a little at this, frustrated at the way things looked to be going currently.

"POLITICIAN!" He yelled, grabing the snakes attention

"What in the lord Arceus' name was that?! you were once apart of a team that challenged the elite four and almost won! you should not be displaying this much mediocrity in battle! Salaam would be quite dissapointed if he saw you now!"

The snake replied to Ethic's reprimand with a hard stare before turning it's head and refusing to make eye contact with him.

"Redeem yourself, use aqua tail and BEAT that flaming worm into the ground!"

Politician disobeyed, simply staying where it was, not carrying out the attack...

Ethic took out Politician's ball

"YOU WILL OBEY ME." Ethic said in a hard voice

Still, Politician did nothing. that's when the foe's scraggy emerged from the earth, hitting Politician spot on and KOing it. the serpent went down to the ground unconscious.

Ethic just about lost it now.

"You've done a lot of things, politician... ever since the day I found you, you caused trouble... but I always forgave you because of your effort in battle... but this... this is just unacceptable... eating those common candies, that made you weak. I told you not to but you did anyway... and now this..."

He pressed the button on the ball, withdrawing seviper.

"You are hereby dismissed from the team, old friend. it's been good... sometimes, at least... but I just can't do it... no more, You're done, finnito."

he stowed the ball back in the inner pocket of his jacket, intending to send Politician back home to his mother and sister to release back to the wild there.

Nova stood beside him, now a fully evolved Arcanine. he looked at the tiger

"Nova... this is up to you now. He's done... You'll have to fill the Ace role now, just as your father did once."

Nova gave an understanding look to Ethic, then turned to face the opponent, snarling loudly and preparing to pounce.

Ethic gave the command

"Nova... Extreme-speed on that Scraggy. I know you can do it now. and after that, use an aerial ace to finish the job.... make it hurt."

The beast roared off in the direction of the scraggy, tearing across the field so fast it dissapeared from vision.

next he turned to Ambar

"Ambar, I need you to... take one for the team, buddy..."

He pointed to the Larvesta

"Ambar... use Rollout to get in close and make initial contact... then..."

He kneeled, looking the spikey little creature in the eyes.

"Then I want you to use self-destruct."

there was no response from the creature... it just sat there for a second...

Then a look of trust appeared in it's eye's, it retracted it's spikes into it's body, leaving the surface completely smooth.

it turned to face the foe Larvesta, then rolled off, gaining more and more speed as it covered ground, heading off on it's suicide mission.

Harry watched as Nova quickly took out his best pokemon, then sighed.

There's no way I can beat that Arcanine now, but, there's no way Im ever going to forfeit.

The ferroseed rolled closer and closer, but then, the boy was struct by a "genius" idea. "FLAMETHROWER UP CLOSE STAR!" The larvesta's horns let out a spiral of flame, blasting straight towards Ambar. Harry's teeth were gritted tightly; he wanted to take out as many of his opponent's pokemon as possible before possibly losing.

Ambar took the flamethrower head on, being sent flying backwards through the air and landing at Ethic's feet, it's body covered in soot.

"Ambar..." Ethic said, kneeling down

the creature opened one of it's eyes, giving Ethic a pained, sorrow filled look.

"Ambar, You tried. that's what matters at the end of the day..." He picked up the creature in one arm and took out it's ball "You trusted me, you listened even when I gave a seemingly crazy command, if you hadn't been intercepted by that attack, this would be over."

He depressed the button on the center of the ball, withdrawing Ambar in a crimson beam of light.

"Get some rest, my friend...we'll get you fixed up once we end this..."

the creature dissipated back into the ball. Ethic returned his attention to the battle.

It's one to one... I'm going to make them feel as much pain as possible for the shame they've caused us...

he looked to his last remaining party member, Nova...

"Nova!" He paused...

"Use Aerial Ace on his Larvesta... Then hit with Close Combat... And let's end this with a Flame Burst... Don't give them any mercy."

Nova understood the brutality of the command her trainer had just given her... but then, it wasn't like she was going to show mercy anyway, not after watching two of her partners get taken out by such... Rabble

The Arcanine crouched down low, snarling, then rocketed herself forward towards the Foe Larvesta, moving across the field with such speed that she dissapeared from view once again as she unleashed the assault...

"You need to prove to your Druddigon that you are most definitely in charge. Dragons respect power, and you need to demonstrate some." "Oh, u-uh, right." He turned over to Dray, only to see that he was snarling at Sarcus. "O-oh, right. I d-didn't introduce you y-yet. Dray, this is S-Sarcus...", Lionel thought about what he was going to say. He couldn't really call Sarcus a friend, because he hardly knew the guy. "an acquaintance of mine. He's going t-to help us to become better f-friends." ...Prove to your Druddigon that you are in charge...Dragons respect power... "I-I mean, he's going to help us strengthen the bond between u-us! A-and we will strengthen our b-bond, whether you cooperate or n-not!" He looked at Sarcus, with the unspoken question on his face: Was that good?

"Use Aerial Ace on his Larvesta... Then hit with Close Combat... And let's end this with a Flame Burst... Don't give them any mercy."

"Crap." The arcanine appeared to be a blur of red, then gone as Star fell with a thump to the ground. Pulling out Star's pokeball, "Good enough Star."

He then turned to the opposing trainer. "Good game," he said, and turned to walk toward the healing machine in the corner. Geez, I would have totally won that if that guy didnt use the fire stone, but then, that also means my team will have to get faster if we're going to even have hopes of matching that speed.

Ethic Watched as Harry called his last team member back

"Good game,"

then as the other young man headed off towards the machine, Ethic called back to him, grinding his teeth at how he'd screwed up so much in the beginning of the fight by underestimating the opponent

"Yeah... You too..."

With that he called Nova off the assualt and back to his side, she listened obediently. he walked off the field towards the treeline, where he then released Politician from it's capsule in a burst of light.

The serpent still refused to look at him, and even started to sliver off into the woods

"Stop right There!" Ethic shouted at him "Oh no, my friend, it ain't THAT easy."

The snake still slivered away, Ethic looked to Nova.

"Nova... get in his path." the Tiger responded by dissapearing, kicking up some dirt, and reapearring in front of Politician. that was enough to finally stop it.

it turned, it's reptillian Eyes glaring at Ethic...

"Look, I'm sorry, Politician, but I'm just done with you..." He began walking up to the seviper "Back when we were taking the Kanto League on... you caused a bunch of trouble for us while we traveled... but I was always willing to let it go...because you tried harder than even Salaam did when it came to battle..."

He now stood in front of Politician, and knelt down to look it in the eyes

"but I'm afraid... that I can't have any mistakes here... there was time for that on our last journey... I should've left you behind at home with the others... but you ate my stash of Common Candies... and that made you weaker... it wasted every hour that we had spent training to take on the league... and so I decided to just take you with me..."

The seviper hissed... almost remorsefully...

"But I think I know why you did it... You wanted to be apart of the action... didn't you?"

The snake simply looked away... and Ethic knew from experience with it that this was it's way of giving an affirmative answer when confronted with something.

he spoke again, his voice a little softer

"Well... I won't punish you if that's the reason why you did it, Politician... but I'm afraid I still have to send you home... this quest I'm on now..."

he stood up, taking the ball out of his pocket

"I'm trying to find out what it really means to be strong... and what Good people do with strength when they have it... and I'm afraid that this is a path I can't walk with you guys from the old team... that's why I decided to leave you all behind."

the snake hissed understandingly, looking Ethic in the eye as it had been able to before the battle.

He clicked the button on the capsule, speaking as the scarlet light enveloped Politician.

"I'll write a letter for Sandra," he began "Because once you get back home, I want you to train until you get to be even more powerful than you were before... because I don't plan for any of you to sit out and pasture forever..."

The light faded back into the capsule, Ethic put it away, then looked to Nova, who stared back at him without expression.

He turned around, back towards the field and the others, and started walking.

"Come one, Nova." He said "Let's get these two healed... and one of them back home..."

Sarcus couldn't help his mouth twisting. Not good enough, though it's a start. There's no way he'll be able to show his Druddigon authority he doesn't feel, however. He turned to Lionel. "I've got an idea." I don't know how well that Druddigon understands humans, so I'll speak to you like this. The thought was directed outward at the other Trainer. How does a mock battle sound? You can show Druddigon you are a worthy trainer by "defeating" me.

How does a mock battle sound? You can show Druddigon you are a worthy trainer by "defeating" me. Lionel didn't know what was coming over him. Did he just communicate with him...with his thoughts? He hoped that Sarcus couldn't follow his discussions with Ms. Mime if that was the case... A-alright, I'll do it. "Dray, what do you think about having a battle with Sarcus?" The eyes of the Druddigon sparkled. Battles were things the Dragon-type understood. "Okay, s-seems like we're ready... Which o-of your P-Pokemon will be our o-opponent?"

"The battles are now over, please turn to the screen for your scores. Those with a star next to your name will have to work harder, since you currently have a very low score." Alina announced. "When the bell rings, you may go out to lunch. Meet in the gym after for the second portion of the tests." 'Geez, some of these new recruits arent half terrible, but some honestly just wont cut it,' Alina thought, and sighed.

Ethic retrieved the capsules for Politician and Ambar from the healing machine as the screen lit up with everyone's score displayed.

Well, looks like I did well in this portion... he thought as he looked up at his own score, pocketing the spheres and walking away from the machine and back towards the field, Nova following behind.

with the party healed, he now began occupying his mind with more immediate issues

Well... I'm going to have to find a new member to take over for Politician... I'm not gonna just call up home and get another member from before... so that leaves me with one choice; I'll have to catch something... should be simple enough... but what should it be?

he leaned against a nearby tree, thinking...

right now the biggest issues this team has is a glaring weakness to Ground, Rock and Fire... maybe we should try for a decent Water type... I'm sure we could find something down at the lake...

and with that, He had decided it: he'd head down to the Lake during lunch and see if he could find anything suitable... fishing shouldn't be an issue, a sturdy stick would do as a rod, and he had some string and berries in his bag to use as a line and bait, though if he found something on the shore, he'd consider it as well.

He took out Ambar's ball and sent out the Ferroseed, at the same time recalling Nova to her capsule and replacing the ball inside his jacket. he looked down at the spikey creature.

"Allright, Ambar, here's the plan, when the bell rings next, we're gonna go down to the lake and you'll help me catch a new member for the team."

Ambar simply regarded his trainer with a silent stare, then started tilting back on his spikes and spinning, showing his approval of the plan.

"Glad you agree to it." Ethic said, sitting down on a nearby bench and waiting for the bell to ring.

Looks like testing finished. Let's head back and check the results, shall we? Sarcus turned, starting to walk back to the gym. "Oh- I forgot something. Be right back." He skittered away, having left most of his elaborate outfit lying in the grass, temporarily leaving Lionel alone.

Jake loomed around quietly and glanced at the scores.

(!) "WHAT!? I GOT A 75 BUT AQUA GOT AN 85! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE MY EXECUTION OF MY PLAN WAS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! AND GRACE AND SARCUS DID THAT!? THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE!"

Enraged with flaming hot eyes, he stormed out of the gym and pressed himself against the wall outside crossing his arms and legs, he looked down in utter disgust at his failure.

He watched as Sarcus ran off. "Eheheh...l-looks like our battle will be l-later." He recalled Dray to his Heal Ball, who was clearly pissed because he didn't get to battle, grabbed Ms. Mime and went to go see his scores. "70%? And it looks like I h-have to work harder... I knew it..." Lionel sighed. "At least there are two people with lower scores..."

Mark tapped Lionel's shoulder.

Don't sweat it, it's not about what's in the battle. It's what you bring to the battle...

Make your own choices. Carry an emotion into battle. Be ready for anything at all. Today's friend might be tomorrow's enemy. All you can be certainly loyal to is your mission. Be prepared for anything kid. He walked off outside the gym.

"Jake, try to remember your true role here..."

He walked off, jake still confused.

Sarcus returned after a few moments, outfit neatly arranged and everything in place once again. He brightened up a bit upon seeing his score, but his eyes narrowed at Maximus's. How the hell did he out-score me? It must have been that Night Slash that made me lose points. These damn fairies are going to ruin me. Gallant looked about, trying to locate what had caused the surge in hostility. "Calm down, it's nothing," he told the Fighting-type. Blues and Chomp were both rather frustrated, but they weren't mirroring their trainer; Absolution was preventing the two from fighting by simply placing a foot on top of each one's head. Sarcus gave the two a sharp look, and they calmed down. "Now. Let's eat!" The Trainer walked off briskly toward the cafeteria.

"Well, 85 isn't that bad, in fact, I think it's all I'm gunna get".

"Perhaps I should actually try more next time than I did today".

Aqua looked around and saw how everyone else was reacting to their scores, then he looked at his pokemon and began to go back into a half sleep state while he waits for further instructions.

((Man is it ever good to be back here...and right after I posted this I saw my badge count....gosh it is so much higher than the last time I posted))

Ethic watched as several other students came and took a gander at their scores, reacting in various ways, then as some headed off the field towards various locations. He looked at his watch...

Screw it. He thought It's close enough to the bell, might as well get going.

He got up and began walking off

"Let's get going, Ambar" he said as he headed into the forest, the Ferroseed hopping behind him as he stomped throug the undergrowth and foliage, beginning to make his way to the lake.

as he walked he thought to himself

I'll have to go back home afterwards and send Politician on his way... I think I have an old friend who can get him there for me...

Sonny pondered the scores for a moment. Not bad, kids. Not bad at all. Some of them are going to be quite strong when they get older. He grinned. It was always a happy day for Sonny when the recruits got tested. It showed him that there was still hope for this place after all. However, inevitably Sonny's eyes wandered down to the battlefield. Alina was still there, seemingly taking care of some administrative business before she left. "Wow... How is she so beautiful, even filling out paperwork?" the man murmured to himself. He turned to Rayleigh. The Sawsbuck's antlers were covered in red foliage. The Pokemon looked at Sonny and nudged him. The scout looked to his side. "Rayleigh, what do you want from me this time?" The Sawsbuck looked toward Alina and then walked behind Sonny, nudging him forward. Sonny smiled. "You want me to go talk to her?" Rayleigh nodded his approval. "Alright, fine. Twist my arm a little more," he said jokingly as he vaulted the low wall onto the field, landing adroitly. He approached the judge's podium and cleared his throat. "Those battles weren't half bad. What do you think of the new crop, Alina?" he asked casually. He looked back to Rayleigh, who had also vaulted the fence but was striding regally across the battlefield.

"Those battles weren't half bad. What do you think of the new crop, Alina?"

"Theyre not that bad, but still, theyre hardly on the others' level. If you'd ask me, they're all like small fry," Alina suppressed an amused smile. "Anyway, could you help me out on the second portion? I need another person to set up the illusions since Em's not around again. I dunno where she goes, but she keeps disappearing every now and then. Responsibility ditcher.." she muttered under her breath. Giwira the serperior hissed in agreement from her usual spot next to Alina's feet. "Go grab something to eat, 'kay girl?" the teenage-looking girl grinned, rubbing the snake on its head.

~~

Grace charged out of the arena at the first sound of the bell. Lunch, here I come! she thought, her stomach growling in hunger. "Come on guys, you wanna get some food?" she called to her pokemon, who were matching her pace next to her.

Sarcus noticed Grace heading in the same direction he was. He wove his way through the mess of students and their Pokemon, making his way to her. "So how'd it go?" he called, having to shout a bit to make himself heard over the noise of the crowd.

Sonny stifled a chuckle, Alina's anger seeming more comical than anything else at this point. "Of course I can. Not like I have much else to do today, anyhow." Rayleigh finally appeared at Sonny's side, giving a nod of acknowledgement to Giwira. The scout stroked his partner's back. "You should go with Giwira. We haven't eaten all day." Rayleigh bowed his head in agreement. He then turned back to Alina. "What sort of illusions do you need me to make? Is it going to be big and scary?" Sonny laughed inwardly at the idea of taking Sarcus by surprise with a gigantic Ariados.
