Gallant returned to where Sarcus was finishing up his practice for the day. Sarcus looked at him curiously, but said nothing. He picked up his things and headed towards the forest outside the school. Before leaving the school campus, he sent a message to Grace with the assistance of Beldum and Gallant. I'm heading to the woods to train and hopefully find a new team member. Meet me there if you want to do it together. If you see him, tell Jake that he can come along, too. With that, he left the school, heading to a more rocky area of the woods. He was looking for a Dragon-type, but wasn't sure which, yet.

Jake had went to his locker and grabbed his junk. He was very happy the day was over, for tomorrow was the day that all they would do was review stuff he'd already known. He began to think of a nightmarish thought, he thought of a sylveon using its ribbons to wrap around all Jake's pokemon and him and it put on a horrifying devious smile and said

"Lets have some fun..."

Jake shook his head and dismissed the thought and continued to happily walk along, he hadn't seen his friends so he looked around and didn't see much more than crowds everywhere, so all hopes of finding them lost he stood still and searched around for his friends.

Grace dashed out the door, her mind focused on only one thing. Mudkip. She had a whole battle strategy planned out, and she needed a water type to fill the holes. "Alright everyone, lets go train today!"

Grace headed toward the waterfall where she had first met her dratini over seven months ago, battling the occasional pokemon that appeared. When she finally arrived, she scanned the landscape. Water types, water types, EVERYWHERE! After a minute of searching, she finally found what she was looking for.

She slowly approached the mudkip along with Angel. When she got close enough to touch it, Grace held out a berry. Alert by the sudden movement, it ran away, but then came back a couple steps. After a lot of berries and coaxing, she finally got the mudkip to come along. Angel was of no help though; she considered herself to still be the "leader" of the area, and decided to whack some order into the newcomers. All that did was scare the mudkip away when Angel came back to Grace. She silently sulked back home.

Hmm. Guess she had other things to do. Ah, well. He searched about for his target. Initially having no success in his search, Sarcus consulted his Pokedex.

"Gible lives in tunnels it constructs inside warm caves. Some also prefer to live in forests. It prefers heat similar to that of a tropical climate."

Forests? Looks like I'm in the wrong place. He pulled out the island map Grace had given him, looking for the warmer, denser areas for the forests. Locating an area, he checked it against his own location. Ouch. This is gonna take a while. The area was a long way away from where he was. May as well start now. Sarcus set off towards the place, keeping alert of any sign of Land Shark Pokemon. Along the way, he trained his Pokemon against the wild ones he encountered. Upon beating a few, however, Beldum abruptly flew off wordlessly. "Where are you-" Xe was too far away.

He thought for a moment. Well, xe is around that level. Perhaps xe is looking for another Beldum to fuse with. He continued his training, focusing on Blues after Beldum left.

Jake now sitting on a bench for about 30 minutes was hopeless in his search to find his friends. He simply stood and went over to the bikerack, he unlocked the lock slowly wondering if perhaps his friends were just in the academy for extra after school stuff or something. He shrugged and continued to unlock the bike, upon unlocking it he quickly pulled his bike away and began to ride away from the academy down the street.

He sighed and looked down.

As he looked up there was a streetlight pole right in front of him and he swerved to dodge it but caught his pedal on the side sending him flying. As he got up his favorite jeans began to turn red and he tightened his fists in frustration, popping some veins in the process.

"Well... Can't get much worse than this... Psych..."

He picked up his bike and after quickly shaking himself off, his nerves vibrating like an earthquake, he got back on his bike and continued to dash down the street.

As he trudged through the forest, he let his mind wander a bit. It didn't get far, however. Gallant abruptly stopped and stiffened momentarily. Sarcus tensed, waiting for the Pokemon to go dashing off. He didn't, however, and Sarcus continued his leisurely pace through the forest. He came to a small, sandy clearing with a log occupying one edge. His legs aching, he thumped down heavily on the fallen tree, his team taking similar positions around him.

Suddenly, there was a loud clang and a yelp of pain. He whipped his head around to see Blues with a large pair of jaws clamped about his foot. "Uh, Low Sweep!" The Pawniard swept his unoccupied leg, connecting solidly with his attacker and forcing it out of the previously unobserved hole. The offending Pokemon was revealed to be nothing other than the target of his search. The Gible was dislodged by the attack, and seemed off balance. He prepared to catch it using typical techniques, but noticed that it seemed to be in pain. It had bit a Pokemon made of blades, after all, and he recalled that Gible often hurt themselves when biting.

He quickly dug a Sitrus Berry out from his bag, and held it out for the small Dragon-type. It quickly jumped toward the morsel, and Sarcus deftly removed his hand a split second before the powerful jaws clamped downward. "There's more where that came from. Feel like coming with me?" He wasn't sure if the Gible understood him, but it understood the second berry that he held out. He noted the lack of notching on the Gible's fin. A female? "Welcome to the team, Chomp." He headed back to his house as the sun fell from the sky.

Maximus raced his team home after school ended. Well, raced might be the wrong term. The only one who was even close to his speed was his Combusken, Ignatius. The rest of his team matched his pace while staying just ahead of him. He liked the challenge, though, and his Pokemon were willing to humor him. He slowed down, however, when he noticed another student from school take a nasty spill on his bicycle. He saw him get back up, and take off down the street as Max approached.

"Hey, hold up! That looked bad, are you alright?" he shouted after him.

Jake heard something over the buzzing drone of the bike chain. He turned to see what was apparently a person, his head was a little shaken after that fall and things were kinda fuzzy. He slammed his feet to the ground while pressing the breaks and he slid to a stop. As he looked down at his favorite jeans there was the huge red splotch which only made him angrier. He looked at the person that had yelled to him carefully, and wearily put his right foot slightly behind the left.

He grunted deeply

"Who are you?... And yes... As long as these jeans get fixed I'll be perfectly fine."

He quickly closed the remaining distance between the two of them before replying. "I'm Maximus," he declared, sticking out his hand for the other boy to shake. "You're Jake, right? I've seen you in class. You sure you're okay? I could help with that; I've been in healing classes." Tiberius walked up, stopping Max from saying any more as he slowly paced a circle around Jake, sniffing at him and his team. He let out one loud, commanding bark, then sat down next to Max. "Oh, don't mind Tiberius. He's paranoid," he said affectionately, ruffling the Arcanine's ample mane.

"Oh, I see, Nice to meet you Maximus! How about I just call you Max?"

He raised his arm to shake his hand joyfully, he was surprised somebody had been so quick to greet him kindly, after the Alina and Emerald incident he was rather met with scowls and being called an idiot "rogue" or some other insult of the sort. He, for once was actually rather happy to be noticed as something good. It had actually got him into a happy mood.

"I've seen you in class sometimes before but I'd never really taken the time to meet any other classmates..."

He slowly turned to the suspicious arcanine who was staring at him intently with its large black eyes.

"That's a find arcanine, it's

Physic is amazing... It's been trained well to a point such as this."

He inspected the pokemon carefully, his eyes staring right into his.

Jake then called forth his houndour, Demon.

"This is my Houndour, although I'm not a huge fan of fire types this rascal and that Sneasel over there were my first two pokemon I'd ever had besides my domestic umbreon and meowth I have back at home. But they weren't fighters... So, what brings you here? Where you from? I came here from Mossdeep city in the Hoenn region, the reason I came here wasn't very specified however..."

Max smiled. "Tiberius is very proud of his power. I just try to help him along. As for me, I'm from Verdanturf, originally, though my family travels a lot. The town was a little too quiet for them, and the jobs with Devon kept my parents busy." The Arcanine remained seated, gazing calmly but intently at Jake's team. Remia, on the other hand, seemed pretty excited to meet Demon. She barked playfully at her fellow Dark-type. Ignatius, on the other hand, had his eyes locked with Jake's Sneasel. The two were polar opposites, and it showed. Argentia hardly acknowledged the presence of the other Pokemon, preferring to munch on the pole that Jake had crashed into. Max didn't notice her behavior. He chuckled at his Mightyena, though. "Remia looks happy to meet your Houndoom."

Sarcus noticed the two talking from a little ways down a side street, and turned to meet the two. As he walked up, he coolly eyed Maximus and his team up and down, sizing them up. "Hey, Jake," he greeted, declining to comment on his injury. "Hello, Maximus. I didn't realize you had transferred to the academy here, too. Funny that I would see you here." There was a slight edge to the tall Trainer's voice.

"Hi," Max said shortly. "Didn't think I'd see you here, either." His voice had lost much of its friendly tone.

"Ah, yes Vendaturf sounds like a great place, all the quite neighbors and...

Jake noticed Sarcus had walked up to and began to talk. Max hadn't seemed nearly as friendly sounding with Sarcus than he did with Jake.

"Do... You two perhaps have a rivalry of some sort?"

"You. . . could say that," Sarcus replied. "Let's just say we go back a ways, and leave it there, shall we?" He turned back to his team, picking up his new partner. Chomp latched onto an arm, but his brace protected him. "I'll see you later." With that, he stalked away stiffly toward the home that he had been staying.

"Self-righteous prick," Max muttered under his breath. The comment didn't seem to draw a reaction from the trainer, but Gallant turned and eyed the pair sharply before turning back to follow Sarcus. "We've been butting heads since we were born, I think," he explained to Jake. "But you don't need to be involved. I'll catch you tomorrow after school; I've got to get home early. Some family members are visiting tonight. Nice meeting you." After waiting for Jake's reply, he took off down the street at a brisk jog, team setting the same pace as before.

"Cya tomorrow!"

Jake turned and snickered lightly at the thought of Max's comment on Sarcus.

"Self righteous prick... Hehehe... Fits him...could be a nickname..."

He turned his head over his shoulder lightly to see of Gallant had somehow managed to notice him and made sure Sarcus hadn't either as he was walking away. He grabbed his bike and lightly moved it upward with a blank stare, which remained on his face as the rim ironically fell out the wheel at the time he needed to get home most, it slammed to the ground with a loud clatter. The wheel sagged downward slightly towards the ground. Not only had he popped the wheel and had the rim fall out, but he still had to get home and feed his cats, who would be screeching and meowing loudly at him for being late to get home and feed them. His gaze slowly hardened as his eyes began to twitch as he imagined the crying cats and the fact his parents and little brother were still on vacation, so they couldn't feed the cats or help him get home. He grunted loudly and grinded his teeth in anger but was suddenly silenced as his face enlightened slowly to a beautiful plan.

He fixed the rim back into the wheel and told Demon to heat the rubber around the hole just enough to melt it, Demon slowly affixed his temperature to melt the rubber until it had melted over the hole then he told Whisper to freeze it.

"Did it!"

He climbed back on top of his bike and continued to go home, ready for the next day.

Grace saw Jake take a spill out of his bike. That clumsy idiot, she thought.

"Mom, Dad, Im home!" She yelled, but was greeted by a feisty little chimchar instead. "Dad? When-"

"The egg hatched this morning just after you left for school," Grace's dad replied. "Want him? Ive been calling him Char, but feel free to give him a new name."

"Nah, Char's perfect, but isnt he a little weak to battle with me on the upcoming exams? He is a baby pokemon after all.." Grace trailed off.

"Lantern and Blaze trained him a little, and I think he's gotten a little stronger. I would say Char's about level 2, but that's still pretty weak compared to the rest of your team," replied Grace's dad with a wink. "Now are you going to come in and have dinner, or are you going to sit in the doorway all night?"

Jake slowly unpacked his things from his bag onto the couch and walked over to the kitchen to be greeted by his pair of raging cats that were desperate to get fed. They scorched him with hisses for being late.

He opened the pantry and bent over to get the cat food but felt something shift within his leg, he feel to the ground roaring in pain.

He looked to his now terribly bloodied jeans, even worse than before and exploded with anger, if it just wasn't for that stupid pole having to be in the way as he turned to see Max he wouldn't be in this mess. Luckily for him his mother was a nurse so she had taught him more than enough about the body and medical things. He slowly removed the jeans ever so carefully as he felt the object shift again as he moved the jeans down his leg.

The site was horrible, not only was there the scrape and the bloodbath on his jeans, but there was something poking at the top of his kneecap coming from under the skin, overwhelmed with the gore he just took in he moved back from the new roaring cats in despair as they saw the scene. They were rubbing against him to try to ease his pain now, but something like this wasn't fixed by cats.

His bone was fractured.

And he was on the floor.

In his house.

Alone.

With exams the next day.

"Why... *sniffle* did this have to happen to m-m-me now?...what d-did I do to deserve... T-t-this?..."

He lied his body out onto the floor slowly as the bone shifted slightly, he thought of trying to heal it but he was no good with that sort of magic and he wasn't exactly ready to crawl up the stairs to get bandages.

Now in shock his vision grew dark and he resisted fainting. Jake's pokemon surrounded him including his cats and they backed away stuttering in fear at the sight of Jake's pain.

"For o-o-once...maybe having G-G-Grace around... Could be useful... To bad she c-can't be around when I need her m-m-most...if at all..."

He giggled slightly and fell to the tile unable to move, hungry, tired, and hurt, all the boy could do was sleep.

A dream came to him... One of the past but less fuzzy.

(???) she must be eliminated for she interrupts my plans!

(Jake) are you serious!? It can't be done.

(???) this bag of weapons here contains more than you need! Now get to work!

(Jake) NO! It can't be done, you've got to be freaking kidding me!

(???) ... Fine, but here's the bag "in case you change your mind"

(Jake) but... This can't do it, she's stronger than you can imagine!

(???) .m...l...must....e....ni....sh.....inte....lan...ng...enough!

(Jake) alright... I'll try....but no complaints if it can't be done!

(???) I'd be more proud than you could believe if you pull this off. Now go! You've trained for this and you know the location, act natural!Just finish the job...

---THE NEXT DAY---

The teacher droned on about the homework assignment from the night before. However, as the current Illusion Magic instructor, Sonny felt obligated to at least pretend to pay attention to his colleague as he sat quietly in the back corner of the room. Then, the man turned to him and beckoned him to the front of the room.

"Class, today the Illusion Magic instructor, Sonny, will be lecturing you all on how to deal with Illusion Magic in a battle. Please note that this lesson will appear on your next written exam, so make sure you take notes. Sonny, if you would take the floor?"

Sonny smiled and nodded, striding to the front of the room. He nodded to the other instructor, who packed up his things and left the room.

"Hmm... I only see a couple of my own students in this room. So, to begin, my name is Sonny. I'm a guard in our village, but I mostly take on scouting duties around the forest to make sure the Pokemon are alright. Now, there are many things you should know about Illusion magic in case you end up on the wrong end of it. The first is to remember to remain calm. Illusion magic preys on your basest instinct: Fear. In order to keep a clear head, always remember to withdraw your Pokemon into your amulet. Your concern for them will only be a weakness to be exploited. This magic will attempt to use everything you know, care for, and love against you. Personally, I believe that Illusion Magic is even more powerful than Offensive Magic. As a user of both, it is clear to me that they have completely separate purposes. For example, Illusions have a difficult time affecting the material. They will deceive your senses, but generally cannot harm you. Are there any questions before I continue?"

Sonny chuckled, having recognized Grace from the forest. "Always the eager Bidoof, eh Grace? I will get to countering and breaking illusions in just a moment, so please bear with me. However, I like the specificity of that second question, so I'll answer that right away. As we're referring to Illusion magic, I would assume that it is fairly obvious that one should cast simple background replication spell to cover any footprints. In terms of sound, you'll want to couple your invisibility with a muffling spell. However, I rarely use invisibility, as it is unreliable and easy to see through for any experienced Illusionist. I prefer the Unnoticeable spell. It simply clouds the minds of others, preventing them from noticing you or any traces you may have left behind for as long as the spell is active. Any other questions, or may I continue?"

Sarcus listened to the discussion on illusion magic in the background with only a small part of his mind. While it would be useful to know how to counter illusion magic, he was fairly confident in his ability to deal with any threats that might show up. He was thinking about a number of things. Judging by the decidedly nonstandard nature of the phy. ed. classes here, he believed they would have a sword fighting unit eventually, and Sarcus couldn't wait to display his skill. He also wondered about Jake. The guy seemed to be having issues, and he was torn between his desire to maintain a somewhat friendly relationship with him and his distaste with how Jake managed himself.

Suprisingly enough, another reason he waited impatiently for the lecture to end was his interest in the history of this place. He knew basically nothing about the area other than what he had learned from his time here. History was an excellent way to learn about an area. "Please, continue," he said to Jory.

A knock was at the gym's door.

A student stood up and briskly approached the door. He slowly cracked it open to see Jake's infinitely hard eyes staring down at him as he looked. Jake was using a set of crutches and had a small bundle of medical wrapping around his lower knee. The boy that had answered the door for him was rather surprised to see the normally mean, and rather sarcastic "Rogue" Jake in such a weak position. He let him in and Jake, trying to avoid embarrassment crutched into the door and went for a spot to sit. he sat down slowly and covered his face to prevent from his slight blushing from showing.

The teacher then told him he wouldn't be able to participate until he healed.

Jake angrily, sat in the gym's corner.

Sonny glanced at the student who'd told him to continue, stifling a laugh. "Alright, but only because you said it's okay. Not like I had an entire lesson planned out for the period or anything," he said while chuckling quietly. "Anyhow, we'll progress onto how to counter or break an illusion. One of the simplest ways to do this is by disrupting the illusion itself. Most illusion magic is based on the five senses and manipulating them. Anything that can break this manipulation, such as interrupting a visual illusion by putting an object into it that does not belong there or an auditory one by introducing a new sound, will cause a breakdown in the magical backbone of the spell. The other method is more complex, but also much more reliable when facing a master Illusionist. Using Illusion magic, it is possible to reverse the spell by dismantling the magic that comprises it. As spells tend to vary from user to user at higher levels, this can become very difficult. It takes a lot of practice and a lot of experience to be able to identify the individual components of an illusion and break them down. However, once one part of an illusion is broken, the other parts become less stable to the point where they may become susceptible to the first method of dispelling illusions. Any questions?"

Sonny smiled awkwardly and scratched his head. "I suppose I could repeat that, but that's the simplest explanation I can give you. If I make it any simpler, important things will be left out. I suggest you read Master of Illusions, a piece composed by the Pokemon League Champion Wallace. He has an entire chapter based around countering illusions, but his explanation might leave your jaw on the floor judging by your reaction to mine. Now pay attention, because I'm only going to say this one more time."

Sonny took a deep breath, then repeated almost exactly what he had already said about countering illusions.

He stiffened briefly with Sonny's response, trying to gauge whether he should be offended or not. Unable to make a decision, he mentally dropped the subject. Sarcus waited patiently for Sonny to finish his repetition of the lesson for Grace. When he finished, Sarcus raised his hand. "Can you counter illusion magic with other forms of magic? For example, could I redirect it using psychic magic?"
