Grace nodded slowly as her mind finally began to compute the information. So, all you have to do is manipulate your own senses to break the illusion, or break down the spell itself. Sounds easy enough.

"Can you counter illusion magic with other types of magic? For example, could you redirect it with psychic magic?"

Grace rolled her eyes. Duh, if it was an illusion, you could just transfer the stimulations to someone else. She started to raise her hand to answer the question.

Sonny nodded at Sarcus's question and paused for a moment. "Like I said, disrupting the illusion physically works very well. Magic also works well." Sonny then launched into the remainder of his lecture, most of it being examples of Illusion magic spells and how to counter them. He then looked at the clock. "Well, that's all the time we have for today. If you have any questions about anything, even your Pokemon and training them, feel free to ask me."

After collecting his books, Sarcus considered taking Sonny up on his offer. A little advice couldn't hurt, after all. However, Sonny only trained Normal types; a stark contrast to his two problem Pokémon, the aggressive Gallant and unruly Chomp. He walked up to Sonny, having made a decision.

"Ah, I'm not entirely certain you can help," he started, fiddling nervously with his braces. He wasn't comfortable talking with the relatively unfamiliar Trainer, and his start wasn't the best. "But do you think you could help me out with Gallant? I appreciate his concern for me, but he hardly obeys me any more. It's gotten to the point of him attacking other trainers in the hall because they looked at me strangely. " He tended to draw looks, mostly due to his unusual appearance and refusal to keep his partners in Pokeballs unless absolutely necessary. "I feel like I'm neglecting my team because I spend so much time managing him." Gallant looked at him sharply, but said nothing. Absolution looked up from grooming himself momentarily, then resumed his ministrations. Blues and Chomp were having a small scuffle that Sarcus didn't notice.

Suddenly, he heard a yelp from outside the classroom. A metallic blue figure that Sarcus recognized after a brief moment floated in. "Beldum? Good to see you back. "

"Metang," the Steel type replied telepathically. "As you can see, we have transcended the form of Beldum. "

Sonny noticed Sarcus walking toward him and shuffled some papers around to look busy and official and... stuff. He listened to Sarcus carefully as the young Trainer explained the issues he was having with his Gallade. The Scout stopped and thought for a moment. During this time, Sarcus's Metang glided into the room. "Ah, I see your Beldum has evolved! Sarcus, I think the trouble is that you evolved your Kirlia too early. Even though Gallant is a strong Pokemon, he is still immature. He'll grow out of it, I'm sure, but a good way to make sure he doesn't do anything drastic is to put him away. That should also give you time to raise your team more effectively." Sonny touched his amulet gently. It released a soft, white glow, then a Litleo appeared curled up and sleeping on the desk. "I love all my partners dearly, Sarcus, but when you merge with them you will begin to understand that with the exception of one or two, your Pokemon won't mind being away. I haven't merged with her yet, but little Nemea here loves to sleep, so she's fine with being away." Sonny lightly stroked Nemea's head, causing her to purr in her sleep. "I hope that helped a bit."

Maximus ducked out of the academy for a break. He had a free period before lunch, so he had decided to head home for a bit. He had been thinking about expanding his team, and figured he might want to ask his grandmother about it. When he arrived, however, no one was home. There was a good-size package on the plain, wooden table. It was labelled with his name, and a small note was attached. It read simply, "From Dad. Hope you like it."

Max smiled. This wasn't a rare occurrence, but it still connected him to his father. He often sent gifts, usually a new Devon product. Max folded the note, setting it to the side, then started tearing the packaging off of his gift. In short order, the plain box sat open on the table, revealing its contents.

Max looked over the brand new fishing rod, the shaft festooned with Devon logos. He grinned excitedly. He knew exactly what he was going to do with it. These things were supposed to be able to pull in Wailmer; surely he could catch another member for his team. Fishing pole slung over a shoulder, he headed down to the river, where he begun his search.

He quickly learned that fishing wasn't just about the rod. He tried hundreds of spots, each time coming up with nothing. The rod had sensors that indicated the locations of fish, so he knew it wasn't just a lack of patience.

He sat dismally, rod loosely held in one hand as he stared at his watch. His free period was winding down, and he hadn't even grabbed lunch yet. His stomach groaned, and he sighed heavily.

Suddenly, the fishing rod twitched, and nearly slid into the river before Max dove on top of it. Expecting a struggle, he heaved backward. This resulted in a quick tumble to the ground, along with a flying fish colliding with his face after a short delay.

At first he mistook it for a bit of weed, until it started flopping about. He worried that the fish would suffocate, until he realized it was, in fact, a Pokémon. It was really quite pathetic looking, but he decided immediately to keep it. Maybe it was the amount of time it had taken to obtain, but he was endeared to the poor thing.

He pulled out his Pokedex, registering his catch. He was informed that it was a female. "Hello, Celeste. How are you doing?" She didn't answer, preferring to flop about. "Well, I can't really leave you like this. " He pulled out a Net Ball and stored the Feebas inside. Glancing at his watch again, he quickly started a brisk jog back to the school.

When he arrived, he remembered that he needed to turn a late assignment in to Draco. He turned down a long hallway, heading to the history room. However, he was nearly swept off of his feet by a flash of blue. He let out a shout as he fought to keep his balance. The culprit turned into the classroom before he could get a good look. Max ran forward into the room angrily. "Hey, that wasn't cool," he started, before locking eyes with his assailant.

A Metang stared back at him. He only knew of one trainer here who had a Beldum, which meant. . . "Sarcus. Could you control your Pokémon? That thing almost killed me just now. "

-------------

"I see," Sarcus mused. He had never liked the idea of confining his partners. After all, Sarcus didn't like the idea of being sealed inside a tiny ball. Still, he had to do what he had to do. "I'll think about that next time he acts up."

Max burst into the room, and said his piece.

Sarcus didn't appreciate the affront to his Pokemon and his ability as a Trainer. "That thing? That's my friend you're talking about. Perhaps you should pay attention to your surroundings, instead of walking around with your head in the clouds," he said dismissively, waving his hand at him.

Sonny watched the interaction between the two students with a bemused smile on his face. These two had been butting heads for awhile, if personal insults were any judge of how long one person has known another. He let them argue for a few moments, not wanting to break it up before each felt that he had satisfactorily injured the other's feelings. After all, they would probably be right back at it once school was over. Finally, he decided to intervene. "Hey, hey, hey. Boys, you two clearly have issues that need working out. Ordinarily I'd suggest a battle, but the two of you clearly have previous issues with one another. Meet me in the Battle Gymnasium immediately after classes are over today. You both have detention." Sonny said sternly, putting on his best "mean teacher" face while suppressing a smile.

Sarcus made a small choking noise. Detention? He didn't get detention. Ever. And for what? Defending himself? He looked at Sonny with a mixture of questioning and suppressed anger, let Maximus have a look with much less of the former and much more of the latter, and stalked out of the room, nearly bowling over another student he hadn't noticed.

Gallant gave Sonny a brief examination, questing with the senses of his prior forms. Sensing his humor, the Pokémon shrugged and followed his trainer. Metang glanced about, xyr metal face unreadable, and went the way of Gallant. Absolution rapped Chomp sharply on the head, stunning the small Pokémon. He glared at the combative pair, and raised his paw again. The two shuffled out the door, the Dark type keeping an eye on them.

--------------------------

Maximus gave Sonny an incredulous look. "Why? What the- what did I do? It's that stupid Metang that almost ran me over in the hall; why am I in trouble?" The assignment he had come here for was forgotten entirely. His Arcanine - the only Pokemon he kept out - mirrored his feelings, growling threateningly at the human who had offended his Trainer.

Suddenly a student walked into the room carrying some sort of note and she gave it to Jake quietly before exiting the room, once Jake read it he left the room seemingly unamused by whatever was on it.

He reached the office and once inside the counselor there handed him a schedule.

(Counselor)

"This is your new schedule, due to the large amounts of new students joining we need classes to have more room in them. This schedule takes effect the next school day you're here due to complications with the exams"

(Jake) "thanks, see you."

(Counselor) "have a good rest of the day!

That little rogue..."

Not only had the counselor now called him that but it seemed to be becoming some sort of nickname to Jake.

"Let's see... Hmmm... WAIT WHAT!?"

Upon further inspection it seemed Jake now had the exact same schedule as his friends to his dismay.

"Wonderful... Now I have to deal with them all day..."

He quickly returned to class and set his crutches aside on an empty desk once he sat down.

Sonny crossed his arms and looked seriously at Maximus. "You heard me. Detention. I'm not going to argue with you about this. It's an hour out of your day after school, so it's not like it's going to throw off your schedule." He pet Nemea again, this time causing her to roll onto her back with her paws flailing in the air in her sleep. "You and Sarcus have some issues that need working out. And you'd better curb that Arcanine's behavior before he jumps someone for looking at you funny." Sonny took a step toward the Arcanine and growled, staring harshly into Tiberius's eyes.

Max looked back at Sonny sullenly. He put his hand in his pocket, then stuck it straight out, toward Tiberius. "Return," he said in a neutral tone. The canine Pokémon kept his stare even as he was returned to his Pokeball.

Max then turned away from Sonny and walked out the door, shoulders slumped. "Not again. . ." he murmured. As soon as he got out into the hall, he let his entire team out. He carried his Feebas down the hall with one arm, using the other to stroke Tiberius's mane. They did their best to ignore the existence of Sarcus and his team as they disappeared down the hall, his brisk pace a sharp contrast to Max's own dejected shuffle.

Sarcus, after dropping his class materials off in the Psychic classroom, stalked his way to the cafeteria, face a thunderhead. Detention for something as small as that? How was that in any way justified? He sighed when he looked at what was on the menu for today. Some things never changed, such as school lunches being edible at best. He made his way through the lunch line, and located his customary spot near the edge of the lunchroom. Sitting down heavily, he looked about for Grace.

----------------------------

Max noticed a familiar face ducking into the classroom as he shuffled down the hall. His name was. . . Jake? He walked back to the classroom and waited outside for the other trainer to come out. While he waited, he fed a Pokeblock to his Feebas, and started to groom it. He was oddly attached to the pathetic little thing.

Sonny grinned at the question, shaking his head slightly. This young Trainer was actually taking an interest in his teaching. "Well, I'm no expert on healing magic, but I know for a fact that the answer is yes. Something to do with the empathy link required for a magical channel to be opened between two people. You should ask your healing teacher. She'll know more than I will."

"Well... To be honest..."

Jake rubbed his elbow nervously...

"Emerald and I have bad history together... And she kinda hates me... You seem to be the only person who knowns about any sort of magic around here that I can trust. I don't have the same classes as my friends all the time but you're definently good says rumors. By tomorrow I'll have all the same classes as my friends though! Thanks for the help! You've definently shown me why i can't seem to heal anyone..."

Jake crutched over to his friend Max after he left.

Max winced when he saw Jake. "That looks nasty," he said, referring to Jake's leg. "I'm no expert, but I could probably fix that for you - or at least speed up the process a little. Here, hold Celeste for me," he said as he put away the brush and shoved the Feebas into Jake's arms without waiting for a reply. He crouched next to the leg in question, hands splayed out.

"Well, I heard that healing was giving you trouble. I'm pretty good at it; I figured I would help. Crutches suck. Oh, give this to Celeste; she loves them. At least, uh, I think she does. They calm her down." As he spoke, he retrieved another pokeblock and handed it to Jake. Max then assumed a face of intense focus, trying to will the bone to repair itself.

"I don't really know her, but I think I've seen her around. She's always hanging around with you and. . . that guy." Max fell silent for a moment as he concentrated. ". . . and I think that's good." He wiped off his forehead, as sweat had accumulated there. "Try putting some weight on it. I think I fixed it, but I'm not sure."

"Tell me, what's your history with ol' Sarcus? Him and I don't exactly get along either... Grace is... Well... Hmmm... I'll have to think about that some more."

He immediately cocked his head towards him

"No relationship stuff or anything! She's like... My buddy... But also... The person I tease... Hard to explain. At least she's nicer than two other women around here... Emerald... And... Alina..."

His hands seemed to tighten as he repeated their names and odd memories flashed blurring throughout his mind.

Anyways you've seemed to have mostly healed my bone... I'll keep the wrapping on for today and see if it gets any better tomorrow. Come, let's go eat!"

He looked about for Grace and Sarcus

Maximus walked along with Jake as he explained his relationship with Sarcus. "Oof, where do I start. . . We've never really gotten along. He and I have been competing for years. Sarcus seems to think that because I don't do as well in school as he does, that makes me inferior to him." The dark haired teen paused for a moment. "He could never stand up to me in a fight, either. That bastard said some things that hurt. A lot. I figured he deserved what I did next. When I jumped on him, he set his Absol on me." The normally chatty trainer said nothing else.
