"So, Megaira, what made someone of your... position... decide to come on this journey?" Roland asked Megiara, and she was then reminded of her deceased father. She stopped where she was and looked down for a few seconds, then looked back at Jory and replied with, "Well, it was never my intent to travel with others, first because anyone new I met would run away or try to kill me on the spot, but I traveled to find a way to restore mana for my father. I also have another goal, having to do with this necklace around me," she then reveled her necklace that was kept away in her dress," and if you were to ever see someone with the same necklace, would you be so kind as to tell me about said person. Oh and I'd guess it'd be rude of me not to ask you the same thing right? So Roland, why are you here?"

Roland looked at the path in front of him, hiding his face with his hood. "I do not normally like to talk about my past for the safety of those around me. Suffice to say that if you knew, you might understand my reasons for not wanting to involve others in my personal affairs." Roland then turned around and smiled at Megaira. "On a cheerier note, I have not seen any human tracks for nearly a league. That means we should be relatively safe, as long as the wyrms in this area are not hungry for humans. We should be safe provided we stay together." He bent down and indicated the 6-inch wide strip of disturbed soil that was obvious to the well-trained hunter's eye. "This indicates where the wyrm that roams just around us has been close to the surface recently. Take care to stay away from there. It could collapse. After all, it's hollow now."

So Sakiiri was a major trade city in the middle of the desert. That seemed...odd, although the fact that it was supposed to be an oasis helped lessen here worries a little bit. Although there was still the risk of dying of dehydration before they reached said oasis. "Are we going to have enough water to make it through the desert before we reach there?" Alleria asked. She hoped so, as the place sounded quite nice, for a desert city anyway. Shpos containing everything you could imagine, amazing food, and comfy beds were enough to lift her spirits. Then she heard Crag speak up:

"Master Nash would it not be a bit more practical to see if we could find a group to trade for mounts with? At least for the desert anyway, it would save us some time. Also it would not be wise to travel through the desert in the heat of the day. Its best traveled in early morning and the evening. Oh and one more thing the aromas may be good and the food is delicious in those five star restaurants but unfortunately the amount of food you get for the price is very not profitable."

"What do you mean by not profitable?" Alleria worriedly asked. "Do you mean they overcharge?" She had supposed they wouldn't be able to afford the best of the best, but she also hoped they could avoid this "lowest of the low" that Nash spoke of. Alleria also wondered what the group had in mind for mounts. Horses were a definite possibility as the majority of the group was made up of humans, but she wasn't sure they'd fair well in a desert. Perhaps camels then? She wasn't exactly sure how she felt about riding one, but she supposed it would be at least slighty better than walking. "And what kind of mounts are you thinking of?" she asked, leaving it open for any of them to answer.

"Are we going to have enough water to make it through the desert before we reach there?" Alleria asked.

Before Nash could answer, he heard Crag speak up.

"What do you mean by not profitable?" Alleria asked. "Do you mean they overcharge?" There was a pause. "And what kind of mounts are you thinking of?"

Nash decided to address each point one at a time. "We'll be stocking up on extra water in Saarid, a small town near the edge of the desert." I'll also be asking around to make sure Gillem was there, as planned... Nash thought. "As for mounts, we unfortunately will be without any until we reach Sakiiri, for sure. We'll see what we can do when we get there." Gillem was holding the most of the group's funding for now, as he was to be renting rooms and making other arrangements for them in Sakiiri. He gave a snort. "Also, I wouldn't recommend traveling this desert by night. Nighttime's when the real predators come out in the land of the Shantii." They walked for a while, before Rhea turned to Nash. "I'm a little worried about Roland and Megaira." she whispered. "They haven't reported back yet..."

Nash nodded and whispered back: "There isn't a whole lot we can do, though. They're pretty far ahead of us. Besides, if something hapenned, I'm sure we'll see some signs of it on the trail."

Just as he finished the sentence, he stumbled and nearly fell. "Agh!" he cried as his foot fell through the ground. He pulled it out, testing the ankle. Luckily, it seemed to be fine. He examined the hole, looking for the source of his mishap, and noticed for the first time the narrow strip of soil moving up the trail. What is this...? he thought, running his fingers over the trail.

------------------------------------------------------------

Rhea gave Nash a worried look. "Are you alright?" she asked. There was no way the others could have missed Nash's fall either.

"I'm fine, but.." he grunted, running his hand over the path.

"What are you doing?" she asked him.

"The soil here is disturbed..." he said, focused on the path. "I wouldn't have even noticed this if I hadn't stumbled." he waved the others over. "Do either of you two know what this is?"

"Agh!" Alleria looked to see who had cried out, and found Nash had nearly tripped in a hole. "Are you alright?" Rhea asked. "I'm fine, but.." Nash grunted, running his hand over the path. "What are you doing?" Rhea asked him. "The soil here is disturbed..." Nash said, focused on the path. "I wouldn't have even noticed this if I hadn't stumbled." He waved them over. "Do either of you two know what this is?"

Alleria tentitively took a look. Upon assuring herself that immediate danger was unlikely for the moment, she crept closer in order to examine it better. "I'm...not sure. How about you Crag?" she asked. She wondered if Roland and Megaira had noticed this. Come to think of it, they had been gone awhile without reporting back. "Do you think Roland and Megaira saw this?" Aleeria asked. "They have been gone awhile..." she trailed off worriedly. "I hope nothing bad happend to them."

Roland crept quietly along the edge of the trail, signaling for Megaira to follow him. As they had gone further on the trail, the disturbances in the soil had become more frequent. Clearly the wyrm had been here for quite a bit. He stopped moving, signaling for Megaira to do the same, as a rumble approached them and passed again. "The wyrm is on the hunt. Best not to go any further along this trail. We shall have to skirt around it. It should not take more than a few extra hours, though." He began to walk back from where they had come. "It will be safer further out from the trail. That is probably why we did not see any tracks earlier. Others knew not to risk the trail." He stopped moving again as the rumble sounded again, closer this time. Oh, for the love of Aer, no. "Megaira, not to alarm you, but we are being circled. Do not make any sudden movements. Wyrms cannot see, but they can feel vibrations in the soil as bats can the air. We must continue back to the group and warn them." He continued along the trail, crouched but moving quite agilely. The rumbling got louder. "Megaira, can you conjure a shield of any sort? What the-" Roland was cut off by a very loud rumbling and a slightly muffled roar, followed by the wyrm breaking the surface in a vertical breach between Roland and the necromancer. The force threw Roland to the ground, but he was able to roll backward and end up standing. "Megaira, run!" he shouted, drawing his bow and firing at the wyrm. The beast was roughly 6 and a half meters tall and covered in mud-colored armored scaling. It had no limbs, but its maw was divided into four sections. These sections were armored on the outside and bristling with dagger-like teeth on the inside. Roland's arrow stuck in one of the exposed areas on the inside of one of the mouth-sections, eliciting an infuriated roar from the wyrm. "Go warn the group! I shall slow him down!"

Walking further ahead Roland was still cautious of the Wyrms around this place, until he stopped and looked at Megaira warning her, "Megaira, not to alarm you, but we are being circled. Do not make any sudden movements. Wyrms cannot see, but they can feel vibrations in the soil as bats can the air. We must continue back to the group and warn them." She nodded in agreement, crouching behind Roland to avoid any action with the Wyrms, until the rumbling started and Roland asked, "Megaira, can you conjure a shield of any sort? What the-" The Wyrms have risen and separated Roland and Megaira. "Megaira, run!" shouted Roland as he prepares to fight the Wyrm. Megaira ran far enough to avoid the Wyrm and stood there wondering how she can help Roland out of this situation, but the Wyrm roared at Roland as he said, "Go warn the group! I shall slow him down!" Megaira knows the best thing to do is to get help from the others, because even with her necromancy and Roland's strength the Wyrm would still be difficult to beat.

She ran backed as fast as she could before she was ready to drop. She stopped at one point and thought Funny, running this far never got me this tired before, I guess missing breakfast wasn't a good thing. But geez how far are they anyways . She then tried running again but couldn't last very long so she started to slow down with her running until she tripped over and fell, but she could hear some familiar voices. Yes, I'm sure these voices are from the other members she thought as she stood up with a few scraps on her, and walked towards the voices, and seeing figures not to far she then began to shout with a tired voice,"Roland, wyrm, trouble, help." As the figures came closer she then said with a weaker voice, "Roland's fighting a wyrm, he's in trouble, go help him." She then collapsed from exhaustion, hoping when she awakens Roland and everyone would be alright.

Rhea rushed over to Megaira, placing a hand on her forehead.

"She's fine, just exhausted. They must've been even farther ahead than we thought." Her face toook on a worried expression. "It sounded like Roland's in trouble. You all go ahead and help him, and I'll stay here with Megaira until she wakes up. Hopefully I can do something to speed up that process so we can join you."

----------------------------------------

Nash nodded. "Let's go! Roland will need all the help he can get!" He took off running forward.

"If he's far enough ahead that Megaira would collapse from exhaustion, we'll need to hurry. Still... I don't want to arrive exhausted, or I'll be of no help."

He slowed his pace slightly, but not so much that he wasn't still rushing. He looked back to make sure the others were following.

OOC:

If someone else, wants to RP our arrival at Jory, that's fine. In general, you don't need to wait for me to post these sorts of things.

"Roland, wyrm, trouble, help." Alleria looked towards the voice to see Megaira running towards them as if her life depended on it. She saw Rhea go towards Megaira as she repeated, "Roland's fighting a wyrm, he's in trouble, go help him." She then collapsed.

"She's fine, just exhausted. They must've been even farther ahead than we thought." Rhea said placing a hand on her forehead. "It sounded like Roland's in trouble. Nash nodded. "Let's go! Roland will need all the help he can get!" He took off running forward.
Alleria followed him running as fast as she could. She was frightened and had many questions. Was Roland okay? Why had the worm attacked? How exactly did you defeat one? But she couldn't voice them as she needed her breath to keep up this pace, and if she slowed down she was worried they wouldn't make it to Roland in time. So she continued running, for hours or minutes she didn't know, only knowing a teammate was in trouble.
Just when she thought she would drop from exhaustion, she spotted something up ahead. It was huge, mud colored, and let out a deafening roar. It must be the wyrm then. "How are we supposed to defeat that!?" she shouted, nearly out of breath. She felt like giving up right then and there. She was exhausted and that thing was over 3 times her size. One hit and it could probably kill her. But the idea of admitting defeat left her as quickly as it came. She would not be a burden to everyone else. She would not sit there and leave the others to fend it off. She would not abandon Roland. She readied her staff and prepared to cast.
A spell. I need a spell. She cast a basic lightning spell, but it barely seemed to faze the creature. It simply shook it off and continued its rampage. She, on the other hand, already felt drained. She was already exhausted from running here, and had no idea how many more spells she could cast before she fainted from exhaustion. It was important to make them count. "What is this thing weak to?" she shouted. Fire? Ice? She didn't know. All she knew was that they had to taken it down before it took out them.

The wurm roared again, obviously irritated by Alleria's ineffectual spells. Its scales had been left blackened, but otherwise unharmed. The beast swung its body and head at Roland, who adroitly performed a gymnast's roll over the moving form. He nocked two arrows to his bow and fired them, connecting with the wurm's body but doing minimal, if any, damage to it. "It seemed like it was pain after I shot it in the mouth!" he shouted over to Alleria, glad to have help with this fight. "Where are Nash and the others?" he asked as the wurm let out another bellow. The armored creature then opened its mouth and spewed a stream of green liquid at Roland. He hit the deck, lying prone as the expectorant flew over him and hit a tree. After mere moments, a loud hissing noise came from behind the ranger. He turned, only to see the tree melting where the attack had hit. "Watch out for that!" Roland yelled, firing another arrow into the beast's mouth as it recovered from spewing the venom. The wurm roared in pain and disappeared back into the ground. A loud rumbling noise was heard in the clearing, indicating the wurm was still there but out of sight. "Careful..." Roland cautioned.

Nash burst into the clearing, taking note of his surroundings. Roland appeared to be fine, and he saw the Alleria was here already as well. This "wyrm" was nowhere to be seen.

"What happened?" Nash shouted as he ran ahead. "Where is it?"

"It seemed like it was pain after I shot it in the mouth! Where are Nash and the others?" Roland shouted at her. She was relieved to see he was okay. And if his information was correct, the wurm had a weak spot which meant this fight just might be winnable. But what about that last bit he said? She had been following Nash in, hadn't she? They must be right behind her. She turned to look, but heard Roland call out. "Watch out for that!" She whipped her head back in his direction, and...was that tree MELTING? Not melting exactly, more like it was being eroded...by acid.

"You've got to be kidding me!" she cried in disbelief. Roland fired another shot at the wurm's mouth, and it roared out in pain. The wurm dove under the ground, but it could still be heard moving beneath the earth. "Careful.." Roland warned. Nash chose that moment to burst into the clearing. "What happened? Where is it?" he shouted. "It's undergr-" she started to respond, but the earth suddenly shot up midway between the three of them, and she had to duck to avoid being hit by the debris. The wurm had resurfaced. Seeing her chance, she quickly began charging up a fireball spell. "Roland said its weak point is it's mouth!" she shouted, releasing her fireball at that spot. Her aim was true and the behemoth cried out in pain.

"It worked!" she felt quite proud, until she realized the creature had finally considered her a threat. It began charging at her, and there was no way she'd be able to fire off another spell in time. So, like any sane person would do in this situation, she started running. "MAKE IT STOP!" she hollered at the top of her lungs. She really didn't want to experience what would happen when it caught up to her.

"MAKE IT STOP!" Alleria shouted as the wurm charged her. Roland sprang toward the mage, tackling her out of the way of the wurm. He stood and drew another two arrows, aiming and releasing them directly into the wurm's maw. The beast shrieked in pain again, beginning to coil its body. Roland fired another three arrows, one after the other, to no avail. Suddenly, the wurm uncoiled its body, swinging it at the group of adventurers. The ranger was caught off guard and the beast slammed him in the chest, sending him flying backward into the forest. He broke through a few tree limbs before crashing through the underbrush, rolling to a halt with his eyes closed and his body splayed out on the ground.

"Damn it!" Nash yelled as Roland was hit by the wurm. He tore his greatsword out of its sheath on his back, charging at the beast. His blade collided with its bottom jaw, getting caught in the flesh. The wurm flailed in pain, letting out an ear-splitting screech. Nash was flung to the ground, barely keeping a hold on his greatsword as it ripped from the wurm's mouth. He quickly stood up and prepared another charge.

"I'll distract it!" Nash yelled, glancing back at Alleria. "Start casting the biggest thing you've got!"

He charged at the wurm once more, trying to draw its attention.

Crag stared at his group from his hiding spot, well they faced off against the wurm(after all a straight up fight with such a creature was not something he was capable of pulling off). As he watch it send Rol;and flying away form the group and Nash attempt to distract it from Alleria as she prepared a powerful spell he knew it was his time to act.

Searching though his cloak he pulled out a small bag full of a black powder. Careful not to spill it he climbed up a tree that was close to where Nash was engaged with the wurm. Slowing walking out on the best branch he could well keeping his balance, he pulled out a thin knife that had a hooked tip. At the time the wurm reared up to slam in to Nash he jumped off of his perch.

Slipping his knife's tip in between two of the wurms plates near its mouth. He dangled form the knife well the beast swung around trying to throw him off. Using the momentum of the beast thrashing he brought up his hand that was holding the bag and tossed it into the mouth and face of the wurm.

Once the powder went into the mouth of the beast it stated to cough stunning it for a bit. Using this moment Crag unhooked his knife from in between the plates and feel to the ground rolling towards Nash and Alleria as he hit the ground.

"I would suggest any type of fire at its mouth and face area right and then I would suggest we take some cover as fast as we can because its going to be a bit explosive once the fire hits" Crag says as he stands up from his roll walking as fast as he can past the others in order to take cover behind a tree or large stone

(OOC if your having some trouble the black powder is basically a sort of pre-gun era gun powder so boom boom when its hit with fire and don't worry this was all of Crags stock of it at this time. also sorry i haven't posted in a long while i have been busy doing stuff.)

Alleria felt herself being tackled to the ground as the wurm ran past them. Slightly dazed and very much out of breath, she took a moment to recover. She heard arrows being fired near her, and looked to see Roland up and firing at the beast. So he was the one who had saved her. She heard the wurm shriek as Roland kept firing. She was about to thank him for saving her, but the words died in her throat as the wurm's body connected with Roland's chest, sending him flying through the trees and leaving him unmoving on the ground. She heard someone screaming, then realized it was her. The attack had been only inches away from hitting her as well.

"Damn it!" Alleria turned in the direction of the shout to see Nash unsheateing his weapon and charging at the beast. "I'll distract it!" he shouted at her while connecting a hit on the wurm, but it retaliated and Nash was thrown to the ground. Alleria really didn't think she could survive if the wurm killed anyone else (she had no idea if Roland was alive or not) but Nash got right back up and continued charging it. "Start casting the biggest thing you've got!"

Alleria was too shaken up to move, but she did notice someone dart out from behind the trees. Crag jumped down from a branch and landed on the wurm, using his knife to stab between the plates. As the wurm swung trying to throw him off, she saw Crag throw something at the wurm's face and it began coughing. "I would suggest any type of fire at its mouth and face area right and then I would suggest we take some cover as fast as we can because its going to be a bit explosive once the fire hits" Crag said running past her. Trusting that Crag had a plan, Alleria began casting the strongest fire spell she knew.

"Let all burn to ash and feel my fury set the skies ablaze!" Alleria chanted. "Firery Haze!" A giant vortex of flame engulfed the wurm, and Alleria dropped to her knees exhausted. That had used up the last of her mana she held in reserve. The wurm began shrieking, but it was quickly deafened by an even louder BOOM! It looked as though the wurm was exploding (her spell shouldn't have been able to do that) and she guessed it had something to do with what Crag had done. She hoped Nash had been able to get away from it. Although really, she should be worrying about herself as the explosion was sending firey debris flying in all directions. She dropped flat to the ground and tried to make herself small as possible hoping to avoid any blazing wreckage.

Nash was thrown across the clearing as the wurm exploded. Shards of the creature's scales as well as surrounding trees tore into his skin as he was launched through the air. He landed on his back and skidded for a few feet before coming to a stop. He stared at the sky, unsure of what exactly had just happened. Eventually, he moved to a sitting position and ran a hand over his face, feeling over a particularly long cut. When he pulled it back it was bleeding.

"That'll probably scar..." he muttered as he pulled splinters of wood out of his skin. He looked down at his armor, finding it scuffed and blackened by the impact of the explosion. He stood up slowly before turning to Alleria and Crag. He focused on the thief.

"I see that you managed to make it in time." He nodded at the two of them. "Good work, both of you. That was some creative thinking." He paused, taking stock of his condition once more. "Just try to give me a little more warning next time."

He walked into the treeline to where Roland had landed. Nash was no expert, but the man didn't look seriously wounded.

"That was a brave move you made..." he muttered, unsure of whether the ranger was conscious enough to hear the words. "We'll need to get Rhea over here to handle any wounds."

The ranger's body lay on its side, collapsed in a pile of branches and leaves that were a bush before the human had made his destructive entrance. Roland gasped, his eyes snapping open as fresh air filled his lungs. He coughed violently, wincing in pain as his body was wracked with pain. After his fit of hacking and wheezing, Roland lay on the ground quietly for a moment before collecting his thoughts. He tilted his head from side to side and, seeing Nash's burned armor, assumed the worst. "The others?" he asked, sitting up quickly and immediately regretting that decision. He grabbed the right side of his chest, the throbbing pain causing his vision to go fuzzy for a moment. "Alleria? Megaira? Are they alright?" he asked of the warrior, turning his head frantically as he looked for his bow and the other members of his group.

Nash gave a nod to the ranger. "Alleria's still in the clearing," he said, jerking a thumb over his shoulder. "and Megaira's further down the trail. She passed out just after reaching us, but Rhea's with her. She said that Megaira was probably just exhausted." He sat back on his haunches. "We had a stroke of good fortune. The van-" He paused, about to call Crag a "vandal" again. He cleared his throat. "Crag saved us with something he had in his bag. 'Tossed it down the beast's throat, he did. Alleria lit it up with some magic, and the creature just exploded." He gestured to his charred armor as he said the last part.

"You seem to be in the worst shape," he said gruffly. "You hit that tree pretty hard. I can head back to get Rhea to check you out." He paused, taking note of his own injuries. "I could do with a bit of healing myself..."

Regaining conscious Megaira lifts up with her hand on her head, still feeling a bit of pain from when she fainted, and looked around, only seeing Rhea. "That must mean they all went to help Roland, that's good. I hope they're alright." She also noticed that she isn't as exhausted from when she fainted, and she knew that Rhea was probable the one to thank for that. She then turned to Rhea and asked, "Rhea, did everyone go to help Roland?"

Eventually the explosion was over and the rain of burning debris seemed to have subsided. Alleria chanced a look up; the wurm seemed to be gone. Nash congratulated them on taking down the beast, which confirmed the battle was over. She gave herself a once over and was suprised to find she was in pretty good shape, all things considered. She was covered in dirt and soot, her garments were torn in places, and she was both mentally and physically exhausted, but otherwise she was okay. Nothing rest wouldn't cure.

"The others? Alleria? Megaira? Are they alright?" she heard a frantic voice ask. Roland! She was ashamed to admit she had forgotten about him for a moment, but she was relieved to see he was okay (and not, you know, dead). She ran over towards the two of them (it seemed Nash had checked on the ranger already) and felt her eyes fill with tears of happiness.

"You're okay!" She would have felt awful if he'd been seriously injured, especially as he'd gotten hurt protecting her. "I'm so sorry," she said kneeling down to his level and turning her eyes downcast. "You got hurt and it was all my fault." Her tears were no longer those of happiness, and she rubbed them off with the back of her hand. She wondered how she could have ever doubted these people. While their races may not be on the best of terms, they as individuals had certainly proved they didn't care about that. Megaira had ran herself to exhaustion to warn them. Roland had put himself in harm's way to protect her. Even Crag had stayed and ensured the wum's demise, when she assumed that as a Vanda theif he would simply run. She had wronged them greatly.

"I'm sorry," she said again, "to all of you," she said looking at each person present in turn. "I...I judged you all without knowing anything about you, and judged you badly. And I was wrong." She turned her eyes to the ground again, feeling unable to bear the weight of their gazes. "You're good people," she said with a nod as though to reassure herself, "even though I didn't realize it at the time. I'll do my best to set my prejudices aside from now on." She chanced a look up. "I hope you can all forgive me."

Roland smiled gently at Alleria and put a hand on her shoulder, grunting as he made the effort to turn toward her. "Yes, Alleria, I am alright. Do not feel badly about this. I knew the risks when I decided to join this quest." The ranger grimaced in pain, stopping his speech briefly before taking a deep breath and continuing. "We all inhabit this world together, Alleria. A wise man once told me that if we were meant to fight each other, we would all have been born with teeth and claws. Instead, we were born with minds greater than those of most. We should use them for good, not turn them toward making those very same tools of conflict." Roland observed the sad elf, smiling inwardly. This Elf was feeling the same pain any other living being might feel upon realizing what she had just professed. One person at a time, Master, Roland thought to himself. I can change the world one person at a time.

"Rhea, did everyone go to help Roland?"

Rhea nodded.

"They all left a while ago." She gave the necromancer a small smile, trying not to show how worried she was about the others. "It's good to see that your up. I did what I could to help your exhaustion..." She paused, giving a nervous glance up the trail. "Do you feel up to walking? I told the others we'd be down there as soon as you were ok."

"Well your quite the optimist know aren't you Master Roland. Though I will a met that its not a bad thing to be sometimes." Crag said to Roland with a nod as he turns towards Alleria "Well My Lady Alleria i guess I actually did gain a profit from using my black powder if I gained even a little of your trust. Which on a venture like this is worth more then the gold I would have gained from it normally." He says to Alleria with one of his flourishing bows "Though i wish there was some of the more profitable parts of the wurm left so I could at least of gained a little more from it." Crag says with a chuckle as returned up right.

"Do you feel up to walking? I told the others we'd be down there as soon as you were ok." "Yes," said Megaira, "I believe I can walk again." She then stood next to Rhea, starting to walk slowly at first to allow Rhea to catch up and then began moving a bit quicker, worrying about the others well being.
