Here Comes The Boom (LC)

Taillow (F) @ Choice Specs

Trait: Scrappy

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def) / Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) / Timid Nature / Hasty Nature

- Boomburst

- Air Slash

- Hidden Power [Fighting] / Hidden Power [Ghost]

- U-turn

The mystery of why a bird can be enamored of a bat is something that is beyond my solving, but what we do know is that Taillow gets Boomburst through breeding.

Skeleton: That's cray.

Thus here's an attempt to take the pseudo-Hyper Beam move and make it useful on this little bird in Little Cup. You're looking to dent everything you see, thus the answer is Choice Specs. A nature that boosts this is always nice as well, and is recommended over Speed augmentations because 85 Speed is cray as well. Taillow also gets Air Slash so that's always cool. Hidden Power rounds out coverage, whether you want to go an aggro route (Fighting) or a safer route (Ghost) although I believe Fighting is better in many circumstances. U-turn allows the bird to go "lol jk" and disappear.

Gengar's F.E.A.R.

Taillow (M) Lv1 @ Focus Sash
Trait: Scrappy
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Endeavor
- Quick Attack
- Defog
- Protect

Classic F.E.A.R. set, add the aweosme Scrappy and you are capable of beating even the mighty Arceus. Defog is there because of the Hazards and Protect can help to scout something.

LC sets have different evs than lvl 100 pokemon. Hinaru gets a pass since i'm sure eves don't even matter in that set (quick attack will always do 1 damage) but in your set, Ryan, you have extra evs in special attack and speed which go to waste.

http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/little-cup-ev-spreads.64199/ is a good place to find out about evs on LC pokemon or you could just use the team-builder and keep trying out eves until you know which one gives the maximum stat value (which is what i do [admittedly]). <----- Applies to anyone who is going to make a thread in the research center with LC pokemon.

anyhow i used to use physical taillow in LC last gen and i guess it can work this gen 2

GUTS!

Strong User (Taillow) (F) @ Flame Orb/Toxic Orb

Trait: Guts

EVs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 236 Spd

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

- Brave Bird

- U-turn

- Quick Attack

- Facade

Truly a beast to be reckoned with! with guts and flame orb, Facade does just as much as boomboost but is backed up by a much stronger base attack stat. Brave birds also hits like a truck but should only be used against ghost pokemon or extremely tanky grass pokemon such as Tangela since it will already be taking a lot of damage from burn/toxic. U-turn is for momentum and if you predict a switch to counters such as magnamite. Quick attack is last slot to take down quiver dancers or revenge killing other sweepers which have little hp remaining. Evs are pretty self explanitory i have max speed and attack and i am adamant instead of jolly since i have access to a priority move. Rest Eves are in hp to make it odd and take less damage from stealth rocks.

Don't worry, if you don't have the "cares" to make the changes i can. In Research center you are supposed to give good sets to help other people who want to try out different pokemon or, in this case, different play-styles such as LC. Eves are especially significant in LC tier where all the stats are low to begin with so losing even 1 point in a stat is usually game changing.

To analyze your Taillow set you have 1 ev which is unused

which could of been used in HP

Without the evs its hp is 20 but with it, it becomes 21 which is about a 5% increase in hp

now consider pokemon who are lvl 100 who usually have hp in the 200/300 that would be a loss of 10 to 15 hit points (35 hit points for blissey) for absolutely no reason.

Taillow is also weak to rocks but instead of losing 25% every time it switches in, you would only lose 23.81% (so it can switch in and out more than 4 times if it takes no damage from opponents)

I understand that there was no way for you to know that but next time you, or anyone else, post a LC set i expect more effort on the effort values(EVs).

Long story short, even if you think "people get the point" you are expected to post proper eve sets for LC pokemon and hopefully next time you have the "cares" to do so.

also your second post on the thread was completely useless and did nothing to expand upon other options of taillow.

The Research Center is not a good place to be dumb, Ryan.

Phoenix

Taillow (M) @ Flame Orb

Trait: Guts

EVs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 236 Spd

Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

- Brave Bird

- Facade

- Rest

- Sleep Talk

Anyways, here's a neat set. I'm not experienced in LC but in theory it would work. Basically Flame Orb works to boost with Guts, and Facade (just like Kamina's set), however, here is an interesting little twist. You can go for Rest to regain health (incredibly useful when working with Brave Bird), and put yourself to Sleep (which will still power up Guts), so you can spam Sleep Talk and hit with good power. Can help prevent your Taillow from suffering unnecessary deaths, we don't want this baby bird to die before reaching adulthood!
