[Fanwork] Aevian Hydreigon

Hello guys !

It was fun to design a new form for Starmie and even if my ideas are not taken into account, but I still want to create a new form. In the list of aevian forms, there is no normal type Pokémon, and I think this type is in need for love. And in the story of Aevium, the people of the Miera Region colonized the region before and especially after the Storm-9.

So I had to choose a WILD Pokémon which could be domesticated, and the Pokémon I choose is : Hydreigon !

Let's start !

--

Firstly, I imagined a family of Pokémon known for their savagery that could be domesticated by the men, as a mirror of the relationship between the man and the dog. I wanted to find a Pokémon which reflects with its dual typing a part of their savage ancestors and the evolution it has known beside the Man.

So all the family of Hydreigon will have their Aevian form with the following typing : Normal / Dragon.

The evolution of the line of Hydreigon is linked to the animal husbandry. After the calamity, some survivors managed to catch some Deino. Firstly, they were used to protect their trainers but were used to help humans to rebuild the region. Generations after generations, the evolution line of Hydreigon became less and less aggressive and  was replaced by more competent Pokémon as warehouse workers. This region form is endangered and is mostly owned by rich citizens, who keeps them as rare pets.

Then, it will be difficult for the player to find this Pokémon.

Note the conditions of their evolutions are unchanged.

This Aevian form should be a more fluffy dragon with the white as the main color, with some parts colored in black. The fur of the Pokémon must grow with its evolution to get at the end a cute and fluffy Hydreigon.

Pokedex entry

Unlike its cousin, it is a friendly Pokémon which uses its sense of smell to scan its environment.

Its great rarity makes it a select partner among the rich citizens.

Once again, it is the end of the presentation of this fanwork !

I want to get this form in my team too, I really torment myself with this fanworks bruuh...

I'm a Normal Type lover and I'm sad to see there is no Aevian Forms with the Normal type actually. And a good one moreover. Just to show what we could too with this A-Hydreigon, i'll present some possible sets you can have in your teams (especially in Mono Normal) :

A-Hydreigon @ Leftovers  / Chopple Berry
Ability: Inner Peace
EVs: 252 HP / 40 SpA / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lyre of Dragon
- Tri Attack
- Earth Power
- Slack Off

It's a fast Defensive Pokémon which can try to abuse of its STAB dragon move to increase its Special Attack and Special Defense. If it works, it can be hard to stop unless you have a fast Pokémon with a huge physical fighting type attack. Status such as Paralysis or Poison can cripple it and it doesn't have moves to prevent them (like Safeguard). Its movepool is a bit limited to prevent A-Hydreigon to be able to abuse too much its Unique Ability.

It cannot use for exemple Scald, Scorching Sand or Ice type moves. It can only freeze with Tri-Attack.

A-Hydreigon @ Leftovers  / Chopple Berry
Ability: Fur Coat
EVs: 252 HP / 190 Def / 66 Spe
Impish / Bold Nature
- Body Press
- U-turn / Air Slash
- Defog / Air Slash
- Slack Off

You can use it as a physical defensive Pokémon with Defog if you need to face a foe who abuse entry hazards.

If not needed you can use this alternative :

A-Hydreigon @ Leftovers
Ability: Fur Coat
EVs: 252 HP / 190 Def / 66 Spe
Bold Nature
- Body Press
- U-turn  / Defog / Lyre of Dragon
- Cotton Guard
- Slack Off

A-Hydreigon can be a solid physical wall and act as a defensive sweeper if you need it. It keeps a huge versatility but need often set ups to become threatening. For Example, a special fairy type attacker such as Primarina can destroy it.

Hope you will like it people ! And let's hope we will get cool aevian forms with the Normal Type !

There is one thing I don't like about the lore: Storm 9 happened 50 years before Rejuv, that's not a lot of time for "generations upon generations" of Hydreigons. Making its origin in Miera and make it an imported specie makes a lot more sense.

Also, you've forgot (or consciously neglected?) to consider the one trait common to all domesticated species: neoteny.

First of all, this line should be smaller than its wild counterpart. Deino 0.7m, Zweilous 1.2m, and Hydreigon 1.5m (so, just slightly taller than a wild Zweilous) should just about do it.

Second, it's longer childhood and teens. The Hydreigon line really doesn't need help in that department, but since it's a pseudo you can only obtain late in the story, and training an entire new team is a complete non-issue in Rejuv, we can get away with it. I say Deino should evolve at level 64, and for Zweilous, I see two ways to go about it: just make it level 75/80, or by frienship, to reference it needing a skill trainer to achieve inner piece and evolve.

Third, is keeping childish traits even in adulthood. For this, I think that making the central head not much different than a Deino head should suffice.

For how you're going to get it, a reward for a side quest sounds about right.

Hi !

Thanks for your comment. Firstly, I made an error about the lore. When I was reffering the calamity, I should quote more specifically the incident post Miera Region. During the story we learn that people for Miera Region and especially Rejuvenation.Co wanted to rebuild their original region and build for the first time the cities of Aevium. I didn't think about this interpretation and it lacks precision. I'll edit that.

For the neoteny, I wasn't aware about it, I'm not an expert at all and didn't do research on it. The new height you gave seem OK for me, I'll take that too.

I didn't modify the condition of evolution since a majority of aevian forms keep similarities with the original evolution line, and the modification of this aevian form is not as consequent than the modification of A-Paras for example.

But if Rejuv team would take example from this post, it can change the evolution condition of Zweillous to Hydreigon. It could need to have Lyre of Dragon in its moveset + a level up to evolve. And they it adds this attack in its moveset at lvl 65 or 70.

For the design, I think it's cool to keep the fuzzy trait it developps during its evolution line, and like a dog, it grows and its face does too.

Since it's a pseudo legendary, getting it with a questline in GDC along a rich citizen would be cool yeah

For keeping child-like features in adulthood, that usually means rounder features (which would be mostly covered by the fur in this case), bigger head, bigger eyes, increased playfulness, and sometimes more specie-specific things, like meowing and purring in cats. Long story short, all things cute.
