Anthalt
Hey guys, when I started playing Pokemon Reborn back in this past September I decided this would be the time that I play through a pokemon game competitively. All my friends were super interested in it, and the game was challenging enough that in most cases spamming earthquake with my favourite looking pokemon just wouldn't cut it. So I started work on a team... My purpose in posting this up is two-fold. First, I find the game incredibly challenging and could use some input on why my team is just eating it in every battle (I'm currently stuck on the ice gym despite having 2 sunshine boosted fire types... and honestly this is a totally mainstream occurrence with every gym and story battle I come across). The second is that my friends are all playing and things have started getting serious (the rules are we can only battle on the battle emulator using the pokemon we train in the game); shots have been fired, wagers have been made, the honour of myself and my pokemon is now on the line. So with that in mind... I could really use some advice on what would make a better team! All of my pokemon have been EV trained to their true potential and Blissey is even bread to IV perfection (I wanted max power fighting hidden power). The levels are all around 50 give or take 1 or 2 levels (for the vs battles we go to the nearest 5 for both players). The team as you will notice is a sun team, and I've bread and raised each one of them =D Ninetails - drought - flamethrower -sunny day -will-o wisp -roar Arcanine - intimidate -flareblitz -crunch -outrage -roar Venesaur - chlorophyll -growth -sleep powder -gigadrain -sludge bomb Forretress - sturdy -spikes -rapid spin -gyroball -explosion Blissey - natural cure -healbell -softboiled -toxic -hidden power (fighting) Flygon - levitate -earthquake -dragontail -feint attack -rockslide Tell me what you think and where it could use some improvements! Thanks! Edited March 16, 2014 by Anthalt
Reiko
instead of sunnyday to the ninetales, give him extrasensory or dark pulse to the venusaur i think is better leech seed or synthesis for the sun, intead of growth the arcanine need extremespeed, its prety useful and, how do you get toxic in that blissey? Anthalt
Thanks for the advice =) Toxic's a TM move, so it can be bread through the male's side; I also wanted heal bell so my breed chain looked like this: skuntank to skitty, skitty to chancey. You should have seen the breeding chain on venusaur though, that one was actually impressive!
Vinny
Well, let's see: Blissey and Flygon looks good... I don't know if Feint Attack on Flygon is the best idea, but i don't know what you could put in place of it... So keep it i guess... Keep Sunny Day in Ninetales... Although that can be a bit "redundant", "Drought" will only stay on the field if Ninetales speed is lower than Politoed/Tyranitar/Hippowdon... In case any of these pokemon switch in, you can put the Sun right back up... Although you'll risk losing Ninetales... Leech Seed can be useful, but if you're planning to have the sun everytime/as long as possible, keep growth... it's too useful under the Sun to get rid of it... Arcanine really needs Extreme Speed, to cover it's "not so good" speed... And i have to ask: As much of a wall that Foretress is, i don't think it's that good under the Sun, for obvious reasons... Although to be honest, i don't think there's a better physical wall available, so i don't know... Yeah, that's it for now...
Deleted User
I don't really think Rapid Spin serves much good in game. To my knowledge I haven't seen any trainer set up hazards to this day.
Anthalt
Flygon's feint attack is just there to avoid anybody playing the "can't touch this" card and boosting their evasiveness through the roof, but like you said it's only really there because I couldn't breed in something better (desperately wanted u-turn for scouting... but can't because trapinch cannot learn it). I suppose I could go sandstorm in case everything goes pear-shaped and I need to cut the sun for some reason (rival sun team doing it better...?). Forretress already suffers from a 4x weakness to fire attacks due to being bug and steel, making those fire attacks even stronger through sunlight makes no difference to how dead it is if a fire attack hits it. With a weather war in player vs player matches against my friends entry hazards are able to make and break the team, so rapid spin was necessary (in game I've seen 2 toxic spikes, but rarely worry about them), and being able to lay down my own spikes can help deter other weather inducers being switched in (also... the threat of exploding their weather inducer should help deter that too). As for Arcanine, what should I replace for extreme speed? Flareblitz obviously stays, but of the other three options I'm not sure. I've been using roar as a pseudo haze so I'm reluctant to remove that unless I can find a new pseudo-hazer and there's not a lot of wiggle room there. That leaves crunch and outrage, which compete with flygons current movepool of feint attack and dragontail (soon to be dragonclaw). Both have their benefits and weaknesses... crunch is a little more damage than feint but not always as reliable. Outrage has far less control, but does mean I have an option for fighting dragons other than my dragon type pokemon (though I guess flygon is the worlds fastest murder machine... so he will get the first strike in against most dragons, and he hits like a truck...)... thoughts? Vinny
I don't think you should run sandstorm... Only 2 of your pokemons "like it", so i don't know... But the thing is that i have no better idea right now, so... Ugh... On Foretress case, all i'm going to say is: IF you can get Stealth Rock, use Stealth Rock... In my personal opinion is better (Unless you can lay 2 spikes without dying... Sure you got Sturdy in case of a fire move, but you know... Dat base speed...) And on Arcanine's case, since you have Flygon, get rid of Outrage... Not only Outrage locks you into a move, but you have a pokemon that gets STAB damage from Dragon Attacks... Dragon coverage isn't so good, considering EFFECTIVENESS (It's only super effective against other dragons...) and if you're going to attack another dragon, then pls... Ice move... Flare Blitz is the best physical Fire Move, so no... Crunch is reliable damage with no drawbacks, and Extreme Speed cover Arcanine's speed... If you're keeping Roar, then get rid of Outrage...
