Surge Story: Chapter 1- "Cadets" [Completed IC thread]

[Jory]

Jory grinned as Sleepy deflected the attack. "Wow! That's awesome!" he said loudly, unable to contain his excitement. His GAO seemed to be no worse for wear after launching his attack. "Alright, Sampson! Use that one Tackling attack!" The Ponyta snorted, then complied and charged toward Sleepy.

[Flux]

"Um... do... something?" Lars called out, unsure of what to do next. He honestly had no idea what this creature could do, but he doubted that barrier move could deflect a stampeding horse. The Abra just sat where it was, completely undisturbed by its impending doom. Lars couldn't just watch the tiny little guy get plowed over. Besides, he owed it to Sleepy. It'd saved his life after all.

Lars ran onto to field, covering the Abra with his body, hoping to at least protect it. He could feel the same conciousness as before enter his mind, as well as a mix of alien emotions.

"Ab...ra?"

Right as the sound of hoofbeats approached, Sleepy began to glow a bright-white, and the light spread to Lars as well. Sleepy's shape began to distort, and Lars braced himself for the pain of impact. It never came. Lars openend his eyes and looked around. He and Sleepy were in the middle of the forest, presumably somewhere nearby since he could hear the voices of the other trainers.

"Did we just... teleport...?" Lars began, his mouth hanging open. He stared at the Abra for a long while before shouting,

"THAT'S AWESOME!!!!!"

Ray had finished attending the wound on Erick's head, and had witnessed the fight between Jory and Lars.

"Well, Looks like I was right that Abra could teleport. you owe me fifty dollars..." He said to oak as the duo of Abra and Lars glowed in a white light and dissapeared.

"Fine, I'm a man of my word..." said Oak, pulling out a wad of cash and counting out fifty dollars into Ray's waiting hand

[Maddie]

As the girl searches for an opponent, a small blue cat-like creature dashes by her with a tube between its fangs. Enyo follows the GAO with her eyes as it rushes towards its handler, the thuggish kid with the cap. Not the most worthy adversary in her opinion, but he doesn't looks like he would turn down a challenge. She got up in a jump, scaring the bat away with her sudden movement, and started walking towards the cadet. “Come on Bourbon, keep up” she rushed the bat, which immediately did so.

“Hey kid!” she called when she was some feet away from him, “What do you say to a little battle? One on one.”

[Ragnar]

As soon as Shinx handed the tube to Sid, He heard a challenge coming from girl right across him blocking his view of the other cadets.

“Hey kid!” she called when she was some feet away from him, “What do you say to a little battle? One on one.”

Sid replied with an arrogant tone "Look doll face i think you're lost this isn't a place for little..." as he notice a bat like creature following her, Sid quickly rethink what he said " A pretty face challenging me? well i can't turn down on a challenge besides i have nothing better to do, got a name miss? the names Sid by the way" as Sid smire some of the cream on Shin'x fur.. "Shinx on my side, teach our lady friend here that too much curiosity kills the cat" as the feral cat is on stance ready to pounce.

[Jory]

Sampson charged through the spot where Sleepy and Lars had been just a moment before. The Ponyta looked around for them, puzzled as to where they might have gone. He turned to Jory, pawing at the dirt with his hooves. Jory was still standing in his previous position, unable to appropriately react to the pair's disappearance. "Wha-... how?.... The battle...?" he stammered, looking to the other cadets for answers. That GAO can make people disappear? he thought to himself, worried about Lars. "Hey guys, maybe we should go look for Lars."

[Maddie]

Even though the words that came out the cadet’s mouth were expectable from a street rat, the Greyjoy couldn’t help but get ticked off by them. She had always hated street scum.

“The name’s Enyo Greyjoy. Bourbon get in there, and you better win this.” she growled back, and the bat flew forward, looking extremely nervous. Enyo had no idea what Bourbon was capable of, so she simply told him to attack. The bat hesitated for a moment and, instead of flying over to the cat and physically hurt it, like she expected, he opened up his mouth and emitted a high pitched screech, which seemed to have a strange effect on the opponent.

“What the hell was that?” she thought, wondering if the “attack” even did anything.

OOC: The move was Supersonic, and an attempt to make it less cartoonish.

[Ojama Yellow]

Lionel had left the other cadet, Clint, for the time being, and was watching the battle between Jory and Lars. Suddenly, Lars and his GAO disappeared. "W-what?! H-how did that... How did he... What was..." Lionel couldn't help but to stare at what just happened. Buddy, however, didn't seem quite as shocked, and yawned like he always did. "I know you can move objects, humans and even GAOs with your mind, Buddy, but that... That is some serious skills." He looked over to Jory and his GAO, who looked just as shocked as he did.

[Ragnar]

"Whoa, a princess with a temper, easy now we're all buddies here right?" as Sid mocks Enyo's remarks.shortly follows by the bat's screech, "What the hell was that? eh whatever Ok peep squeak bite that thing" as Shinx just looks at the bat without doing anything.. as Sid commands his GAO once more "Eyy! focus I said bite that thing!" Shinx release a spark and jolt it self as falls down on its knees "Really? you can't be that stupid? What did you do to my GAO?" as he addresses Enyo.

[Maddie]

"Really? You can't be that stupid? What did you do to my GAO?" as he addresses Enyo.

She had no idea what Bourbon had done to the other GAO, but she would never confess that to Sid. Instead she ordered the bat to get close to the cat and induce some real damage. The GAO followed her order, and for the first time she noticed how fast the creature is. Once near to the opponent, the bat bit him, which seemed to inflict... no damage at all.

"God dammit, how weak can you be?" she thought angrily. And worst than the lack of damage, Bourbon was now dangerously close to the blue cat's reach.

Corporal Niles had just returned to his duty guarding the tree line when a burst of white light came from the undergrowth to his left, at first he thought that one of his Comrades around the perimeter had seen something in the woods and sent out their GAO to investigate.

He realized as his hand was halfway to his own belt, however, that standing where the white light had been was a Young man and an Abra. He heard as the young man shout in apparent exictment,

"THAT'S AWESOME!!!!!"

He walked over to the man, figuring he was a cadet from the group.

"You there, I suggest you do your teleporting with in the boundaries of the clearing, not out here past the treeline."

He patted the but of the Assault rifle slung over his shoulder.

"You hear those gunshots earlier? Well some of us on patrol here haven't exactly had a "good" day so far, and are looking to blow of some steam by letting out some lead. In other words, they're a bit trigger happy right now, and You're damn lucky that you appeared next to me of all people, because they would've shot you as soon as they saw that light."

He pointed back away from the woods and towards the clearing, where the Cadets were still training.

"Now get."

[Ragnar]

Both trainers seems frustrated as the match progresses as the bat swoops down on Shinx seems to be doing something, Sid winced at Enyo's angry face as he said "Chill lady, seems to me you don't know your GAO quite well, do you really have a plan here ?" as Sid commanded Shinx " Nows your chance shinx bite with thunder!" As shinx seems to be still in a trance, It jolted itself and hurting it as well as it surges to the Bat like creature.

Whatever that first move Bourbon had made was it was paying off, as the Shinx seemed unable to do anything but damage itself. Suddenly confident about their odds, Enyo orders another attack.

"Bite him hard Bourbon!"

The bat opened its jaw wide, and stood still for slip moment in which his fangs acquired a dark vicious coating, and then proceeded to dig them in the cat's skin.

[Ragnar]

"so you really do know what your doing ey princess?" as Sid assumed and was quite impressed, as Shinx shakes off the pain, it seems Shinx was more eager and alert now than it was before. "Ok peepsqueak return the favor show him your lightning fangs" as Shinx charges the bat like creature and leaps through the air as its fangs glow biting Bourbon. taking it down to the ground.

((sorry got to do my morning routine.. inb4 powerplay don't worry it's just a playful thunder fang, be back soon))

Lars turned to see one of the guards patting his rifle.

Lars held up his hands defensively.

"Hey now, easy. I didn't exactly plan on this happening." He turned to the direction the man had pointed. "I'll just be going now..." There was a spring in his step as scooped up Sleepy in one arm and walked back to the training area.

"It can teleport! Even better, it can teleport other people with it! I knew it had some useful move!"

Lars looked down at the Abra with a wide grin on his face. It was back to sleeping, calm as ever.

Bourbon managed to bite the adversary and took flight unarmed, when suddenly the Shinx appeared to snap out of his torpor, and leaped in the air to catch the off guard bat. The GAO was caught between the cat’s electrified fangs, and Enyo didn’t thought it would cause too much harm until Bourbon started screeching in evident utter pain. The bat was fighting to get out of his captors fangs, flapping his wings hopelessly, but the Shinx had him locked thigh. Bourbon was at that point in a total panic state, and Enyo did the only thing she could: called him back to his sphere. The defeat combined with the fact that she had lost to that particular person enraged her greatly, and she turned her back on Sid without acknowledging his victory. As she walked away from the cadet her mind started to claim a way to compensate her defeat. “It has to be something big… literally” she finished with a grin as she spotted the owner of the giant rock snake. If she could defeat the most feared GAO in the group then Bourbon’s failure would be small in comparison, and her pride would be appeased. The problem was that she only had Absinthe as an option… she would have to make it work. The cadet, Clint she thought his name was, was taking care of his small humanoid GAO.

“Hey” she called to get his attention “I think it’s time for your snake’s reign of terror to be over. Battle me and I’ll see too it”. That should do it.

[Supernovae]

Clint had been napping with his partners after the previous battle and talk with Lionel, but couldn't help but wake and smirk as he heard the girl's remark. He had seen the girl around camp, but she'd been quiet up until now. "Man, I was hopin' you'd ask to see my other snake sweet cheeks, but if ya wanna go ahead and get ya partner hurt then that's all on you." Clint walked over to the Onix and woke it up from its own nap.

"Let's get this over with big pimpin'," he said while shaking the giant, who rose up a bit slowly, "Are you sure ya wanna get smashed this early? I mean big pimpin' here is the undefeated heavy weight champion of the world, and you're jus' a girl."

[Maddie]

Enyo raised her eyebrows at the “other snake” remark, but then again, that guy was as much of a street rat as Sid, no class at all. Clint woke up the giant GAO, and then proceeded to brag about his winning streak.

“Keep talking and you’ll just a bigger fool outta yourself when you lose this battle” she replied and reached for the alligator’s sphere. She aimed for a patch of grass next to her and released the creature, and with a swift motion dropped her knee on the GAO’s back, pinning it to the ground before it could attack her. Absinthe struggled to get free, roaring and growling in the process. Enyo brought her head closer to the creature, while making sure to stay away from the reach of Absinthe’s claws.

“Now listen closely, I don’t know what you’re so frustrated about, but let’s channel that anger, shall we? I’m giving you the opportunity to go all out on that beast over there, you see it? No one has been able to defeat it so far, so bring it down and establish yourself as the top dog around these… creatures” she said harshly and in a low tone of voice, in order to be unheard by the order cadets. The Totodile stopped his futile attempt to get free from her grasp and seemed to be considering the offer. She could see in his face that he really wanted to go against the rock snake, even more than he wanted to dispute his alpha role in their relationship. Because even though Enyo had said that she wasn’t aware of the cause of the alligator’s frustration, she knew it very well: Absinthe wasn’t able to let go of his dominant side and let her control the shots. She would eventually be forced to take care of the situation, but for now channeling his rage towards another target was good enough.

“Very well then” she said while getting up and releasing the GAO, when his inertia became long enough to be a synonym of consent “Oh, and by the way, you now go by the name Absinthe”. He glared at her, but quickly shifted his focus to the giant GAO, evaluating it. Absinthe got up on his four legs and spited a shot of water in the snake’s direction.

[Supernovae]

Clint chuckled when he saw her opponent's tiny alligator appear, this was going to be easier than he thought. He watched absentmindedly when the gator approached and released the stream of water. That's when he heard it.

The Onix released an immense roar in dire pain and began writhing around on the ground as though it was suffering a stroke. Chunks of rock blew off the beast's body with each drop of water. "What the hell?" Clint asked then snapped to his senses, he was loosing... "GET THE HELL UP PIMPIN', WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" He wasn't angry, he was nervous for his creature, "GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!" His voice reached a pinnacle, his palms began sweating. He realized his creature wasn't fairing well against this crocodile or was it an alligator? Well, whatever it was it was special and perhaps stronger than his own Onix. Clint knew he'd have to outsmart his opponent which wasn't exactly his strong point.

At that command the Onix quickly retreated underground digging desperately to get away from the stream of water being gunned at it. "Alright pimpin' hit it with a sneak attack! Pop up right underneath of that damn thing!" Clint foolishly yelled out.

Ray and Oak leaned against the same tree that Erick and Virtue where sitting under, the two of them watched Enyo's and Clint' battle unfold

"Well, looks like sheer size advantage won't work for him this time" Said Ray, chuckling as Clint began to lose his smugness upon realizing that his onix was indeed fallible in battle.

"Yes, which means he'll have to outsmart Enyo," Said Oak, barely paying attention to the glorified slaughter that was about to happen, he had a pretty good Idea who would be the loser of this fight.

"And from the scores he got on the evaluation exam in high school, that's not very likely to happen."

Surge walked over beside the two, followed by infantry.

"Should we inform the fool of the whole "Affinity disposition" system?"

Ray stopped chuckling as Clint's onix burrowed into the earth, dissapearing under ground.

"no, no, let's just... let him figure it out on his own... I'm sure his defeat in this fight will be enough to do that."

Virtue was watching the fight intently. In fact, now that Erick noticed, She had been watching all the fights so far with the same look.

"You want to try out your skills too, huh?"

Virtue Nodded, not taking her eyes off the altercation between Enyo's and clint's partners.

"Alright then..."

He looked around for a suitable opponent, but it seemed that everyone else was busy.

"Oh, well, Virtue, maybe nex-"

He was cut off mid-sentence as something moving at the treeline caught his attention in his periphery.

he turned around and looked a little harder at the thing, thinking it was a small tree at first.

But then it moved again, and it became clear it wasn't. The creature met Erick's eyes from it's place in the tree line, it's arms were up in the air trying to imitate the limbs of a tree.

"That's... not a tree... Tree's don't stare at people..."

Almost as is the creature heard Erick's realization, it dropped it's arms, The ruse was up.

The two of them remained locked in an intense starring match for a few moments. then the creature did something strange... it inclined it's head forward, then back again, as if it was nodding at Erick, seemingly acknowledging him as having proven himself worthy by seeing through the Creature's disguise as a tree. It stepped out of the tree line, into the clearing just a few feet behind the tree, taking a defensive stance, beating it's arm across it's chest, and giving out a hearty noise that sounded like the cross between something rolling on gravel and the wind whistling.

Erick stood up, a little weirded out by the Creature now.

Hell, maybe it overheard that virtue wanted to fight something...

"No...well...maybe,"

Erick looked up at the creature, and began speaking, not even sure if it was capable of understanding english.

"You... are you... going to fight...?"

The thing nodded once more, then beat both hands against it's chest and let out another hearty yet strange cry. Apparently it was quite capable of understanding english.

"O....kay then...."

Erick Looked over at Virtue.

"Hey, looks like we've found an opponent..."

Virtue was at Erick's side and sizing up the strange Tree-creature in an instant. She looked up at Erick, disappointment in her eyes.

Really...? It's... a t...ree...

"Yeah...it's a... tree, but it's a moving tree that can understand english, and thats a better opponent than nothing...."

Virtue walked off back under the shaded Tree and sat back down, refusing to accept the walking tree's challenge to a fight.

The tree-being let out a harsher sound this time. It sounded offended.

"Well, sorry...what ever the hell you are..."

He began walking back as well, when the creature cried out again. Erick turned to see it rushing towards him at a far faster speed than he thought possible for it to move, It's arm was aglow in a blazing hot white light. (Hammer arm)

He put his arms up to defend himself, that's when Virtue literally appeared in front of him in a burst of light. the Ralts focused and threw up a barrier, blocking the creatures attack just as it closed in, It swung its arm around, punching the barrier so hard that Erick heard a cracking sound. the Air rippled around him and Virtue, the barrier was still holding, but virtue was having noticeable trouble keeping the thing from breaking through. Just as Erick was about to pick up Virtue and get away from the raging Tree-man, virtue's eyes blazed Scarlet, and the Tree-man was engulfed in a scarlet light and flung backwards into the undergrowth. It got up and advanced again. Virtue's Eyes blazed brighter, and the advancing being fell to it's knees, clutching it's skull in agony (Confusion).

finally, Virtue released it from her telepathic hold, and it fell to all fours. then it jumped back up. Erick prepared to drop kick the thing if it tried something again, but to his surprise, it nodded as it had before, turned around, crossed it's arms behind it's back, and marched off back into the forest. Virtue watched it leave, not taking her eyes off it till it was well out of sight.

"We'll, that was...interesting..." He picked up Virtue and headed back to the tree. She was asleep again before they even sat back down.

"what you just fought is named sudowoodo." said ray

"what?" asked Erick

"the tree-man. It's a GAO, and we named it Sudowoodo. there's a bunch of them in this forest, and they seem to be confrontational to those who see through their disguise as trees."

He looked back over to the fight between clint and Enyo. Big pimpin the Onix had still yet to resurface. Ray pointed his chin at Enyo's crodilian creature.

"Though, if you hit them with a bit of water, they'll head for the hills in a panic..."

[Ragnar]

Sid was dumbfounded of what just happen as Enyo retrieves her GAO and turn her back as she wonders off . as he went to pick up shinx laying on the grass and take a look at what harm the bat like creature did to it, he can see a fairly huge bitemarks on the blue cat's body as blood flows from it. He quickly cover it with his handkerchief as he smear some of the cream seeing his Shinx winced in pain. "Man that chick is crazy, I know this stings a bit but on the brightside I think we've won. just a little more peepsqueak then we're almost done here" as he applied pressure to the wound and sits on the grass treating the wounded cat.

[Chim]

After his battle with Lionel, Logan sat down against a tree. He was watching the other GAOs battle closely. Crush, who was ignoring Logan, was interested as well. “Impressive. Looks like you can’t judge a GAO based on its looks,” Logan said to Crush in an attempt to earn the turtle’s trust. When he got no response he sighed. He knew Crush was upset that their earlier match against Buddy ended in a draw, despite the latter looking weak and lazy.

Logan decided to let it rest for now and released Chimchar from its sphere. The monkey didn’t act up like usual, but jumped on Logan’s shoulder instead. “Looks like you still haven’t recovered completely,” he said while patting the monkey. “Oak said it could take a few hours.”
Crush made a weird noise at that comment, drawing Chimchar’s attention. Before it could start trouble, Logan grabbed it. “No fighting. What if Crush hits you again with water?” that seemed to calm Chimchar down, but not Crush. The turtle sprayed some water around to try to intimidate Chimchar, who stuck out its tongue. “Crush, enough! Or you can go back in your sphere.”
The turtle turned its head and looked away.

Logan turned his attention toward the battles again. Sid really likes his thundercat. And it looks like that thing can do some serious damage against water and flying GAOs. Also if the battle between Nathan and Clint was an indication, Chimchar won’t like rocks either. That means I know some of my GAOs weaknesses, but what are their strengths?

Chimchar hopped on Logan’s leg and stared in his eyes. “What are you strong against?” he asked the staring monkey. Instead of showing Logan, like Crush had done, Chimchar started to show his arm muscles. Logan chuckled. “I got it. You’re strong. And since I haven’t given you a nickname yet, maybe I should call you Ace...”

At that moment Logan and Chimchar got startled by an immense roar coming from Clint’s Onix. What? Onix is losing? I thought that thing was unbeatable. But looks like it’s weak against water, so Crush could beat it? What about Ace? What is he strong against? Maybe I should ask Oak when he returns.

"It seems like Lars reappeared. Good." Lionel had seen how he and his GAO disappeared, but it seemed to be alright now. Instead, he turned his attention to an unfolding battle between Enyo and Clint. Of course, Clint would use his Onix again, since it seemed to be unbeatable, and Enyo used a crocodile-like creature. As soon as the GAOs started their battle, the crocodile spouted water at the Onix, which, apparently, hurt him a lot. "So that Onix does have weaknesses. Seems like Clint may be in a tough spot." Then he realised Buddy was paying very close attention. Ironic, because Buddy would normally never do that. Buddy was energetic when he battled another water GAO... Now he's watching the battle of a water GAO closely... Is that a coincidence?

[Flux]

Lars walked back into the training grounds with a grin on his face. He ran up to a confused-looking Jory before shouting,

"It can teleport! Did you see that?!"

He held Sleepy towards Jory in his outstretched arms, a childlike grin on his face. The Abra appeared to be asleep.

"Look at him! You'd never think this little guy had so much power in him, would you?" His face took a more serious tone. "Anyway, sorry about the battle. I guess we can call that your win, via ringout. Sampson here's quite the powerful one." He gave a nod towards the flaming horse.

He paused and looked over at Oak leaning against a tree.

"Um... if you'll excuse me, I kind of want to talk to him about the... incident I had before. It was nice to get to know you and your GAOs." As he was about to walk away, he got a closer look at the smaller GAO by Jory's feet. It looked quite similar to his Nidoran. Lars paused midstep, and turned back to Jory.

"If you don't mind me asking, what did Ray call the little GAO by your feet? It looks really similar to my troublesome guy..." he said, holding up his other capsule.

[Jory]

Jory grinned at Lars as he walked up to Jory and apologized. "No worries, man. That was pretty cool!" he said, chuckling. He stroked Sampson's muzzle, earning him another snort from the equine GAO. The Ponyta reared his head at the compliment paid to him by Lars. Jory nodded in Sampson's direction. "Thanks. He's a prideful one." Jory then nodded in Response to Lars, moving aside so he could go speak to Oak. Then, Lars turned around and inquired about Nefertiti. Jory picked up the smaller GAO and smiled. "This is Nefertiti. I call her Neffi sometimes, but she's a real sweetheart. Oh, and Ray said she was called a Nidoran, but there was a female symbol next to her name." Jory paused. "Any particular reason?"
