Graterras, Questions and stuff

  1. 1. Do you think only standard Fantasy races should be allowed for PCs? Or should more monstrous races also be allowed?

    • Only Standard Races (Humans, Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, Halfings, Half-Elfs, and Half-Orcs).
      1
    • Both the Standards and a few monstrous races (Orcs, Goblins, Kobolds, Half-Ogres and Kenku [a type of Bird People, incapable of sustained flight] would also be available for play.)
      7
    • Very monstrous races should also be allowed (Illithids[a.k.a Mind Flayers] and Lizardmen would be added, there would be a limit on how many of these were allowed.)
      2
  2. 2. Dark Fantasy or just a normal High Fantasy?

    • Dark Fantasy (will be pretty grim, not over the top, but a pretty terrible world in some places.)
      7
    • Normal High Fantasy.
      3
  3. 3. How experienced do you want your characters to start off?

    • Fresh Adventurers just starting their careers (this means they will grow more, think like starting level 1 in Dungeons and Dragons)
      5
    • Slightly experienced, maybe gone on 3 or 4 adventures prior to the story (around level 3 in Dungeons and Dragons terms)
      4
    • Newly Established Heros, that are well known in an area or 2 but new to the rest of the world. (around 6th Level in Dungeons and Dragons)
      1
  4. 4. Do you think a Level System should be used, or a more Free Form system?

    • Rigid Level system (More Rule intensive. Levels, Rigid Magic rules, more work for me.)
      0
    • Free Form System (More Narrative Focused. No levels, More flexible Magic rules, less intensive on me.)
      10
    • Other (please explain in a post below, otherwise this means nothing to me.)
      0
  5. 5. What overall Story-telling do you want?

    • Free-Form: Players decide what to do when it comes to story (This one sorta eliminates me from the picture other than keeping order, and being knowledgeable about the world since I created it)
      0
    • Semi Free-Form: There will be an over-arching Story, but Players ultimately decide where to go. I basically won't force Story elements upon you.
      7
    • Narrative: A more linear type of story, that will follow the path I set. (There would still be some player choice since in the end it is an rp) this would be a bit like the Pokemon Aftermath rp on this forum

Graterras is a world I have been working on for about 3 years now, and was originally written with Dungeons and Dragons in mind, but I want to try my hand at changing it into a forum RP. I have a few questions I wanted to get answered before I posted the main OOC/Sign-ups Thread, since that will take a lot of work due to how in depth my world is (mostly the magic has a multitude of forms that I want to represent so not every Mage feels the same). and I want to see if there is any interest in the first place.

I would like to hear from you all before I post the main thread, please post your reasonings for any of the poll questions below, and feel free to ask me any questions.

It won't be 100% Dungeons and Dragons, it is just an easy comparison lol, so there isn't too much need to look it up. I guess it may be good to find out what Illithids are since that is where I got them from, though they are quite different in my world. (Basically they are not crazy cultists that want to kill everything in this world, though by most they would still be looked at as monsters.)

Well, I voted, but I don't know if I'll participate in this one.

First question: I voted for the FEW monstrous races, because I guess you don't need over the top monster thingies.

Second question: Normal High Fantasy. Because Dark is too...Dark for me.

Third question: Fresh adventurers, because I think that may give more chances for the characters to develop and stuff.

Fourth question: Free form system, because I don't want to give Hukuna too much work~

Last question: I would do a Semi-Free Form; you'll need a plot, but not everything that happens should be focused on that one plot.

Edit: Huh. Looks like other people like Dark Fantasy more.

I would honestly prefer Dark fantasy, just so that my RP is quite a bit different to Flux's Aervana, just in that it doesn't have to similar a feel.

and in response to your question 2 concerns, Like it won't be like hella dark if that is what I end up going with, so if you are really worried about that Biberal, don't worry about it too much. But otherwise I understand, and I at least hope you read along if you won't be rping with us.

Don't mind me lol, I for some reason spell everything Phonetically, if it weren't for spell check people would probably think I am an Idiot lol. (That is even when it is spelled correctly right in front of my face too lol.)

I spell things phonetically all the time... Anyway, this sounds quite interesting. I think I'll stray from my usual ranged role and do a more magicky character.

Magic will be a little more in-depth than the other classes. Not that it is better or anything, just a complicated art, deserves a bit more attention to it's finer details, also need to explain that there are Wizards and Sorcerers in this world. Main differences being Wizards Learn spellcasting and Magic, and treat more as a science, where as Sorcerers can naturally cast spells by instinct, and prefer to call it an Art. (THey don't get along at all.) Also Wizard's are tied to their Guilds in some ways (though I will explain this more in detail when I put up the OOC).

Otherwise Classwise, pretty much everything that is the standard will be there, as well as any race can be any class (Though if a Dwarf would pick Wizard he would be highly ridiculed by his Brethren for the most part.) Sorcerer is the only I think will be restricted in anyway, since Dwarves and Gnomes cannot have Natural magic due to their slight tolerance to it. (they resist it a little bit, it isn't like a big resistance so don't worry about it being game breaking. It won't really effect gameplay too much.)

Sounds pretty interesting. (It's obviously my sort of RP since I run a fantasy RP right now.) However, I'm already in so many RPs that it's probably not very likely I'll join. Still, you never know. I'll wait until I see the sign-up thread, I guess.

Without getting too far into my system I cooked up, basically normal magic is just easily formable and can take many forms, there will be things called Iconic Spells however, these are more powerful, but have specific effects. Sorcerer's also will not have specializations. It is up to you to decide if you want to do that or not. The reason Wizard's and Mages(is a Wizard who is a generalist, they can learn all types of magics, but they are much weaker than a Specialist of that field.) need specializations is because they learn their art as if it was a science, and mostly treat it as such. Sorcerer's are not required too specialize in a type of magic, but they can if you so desire. This is because all magic is natural to them, they can shape magical energies ever since they were children. (Basically this are flavours of the same class, while Wizard's have to Learn their magic and highly specialize, they have easier access through their guilds to Iconic Spells. Sorcerer's have the same power a WIzard [so they aren't penalized for being able to use all magics like a Mage is], but because it is a Natural thing, they don't have guilds, making you have to research your own Iconic Spells {and yes that will be part of the roleplaying}.)

The OOC/Sign Ups will hopefully be up tomorrow sometime, I would appreciate if a mod would lock this thread for me once the OOC is up, want to avoid confusion then. It is fine too leave it up until the OOC pops up, since it will give more people a chance to vote or notice it. Thank you for your time whoever sees this.

Might as well use this a progress thread for now. I am currently 2/3 hours into the OOC thread and it is coming along nicely. I have finish a lot of the Standard stuff at the top, and gotten 5 out of the 12 playable races complete, need to take a break from it for a little while since it literally tired me out a bit mentally. A lot of Graterras is swimming around within my head so makes this an interesting process to say the least. Classes will be easy to knock out once I get to them other than Sorcerer, Mage/Wizard, and Priests. My world may seem really bloody in depth to guys, and that is because it actually is. I like too get the small details in order. I hope you guys can stay with me on this, I am sure it will be worth it once the OOC gets up, and we get the rp rolling. But for now need to rest my head, and do some less thinking intensive stuff to re-coup a little bit. I will be keeping you guys posted feel free to ask any question either by pm or here in this thread.
