Graterras Chapter 1: The Darkness Descends. [IC]

Okay. So the big hulking Officer thing just took an axe to the face without dying. What in Graterras was that thing? Jeneve drew her knives and leapt off the rooftop, slicing downwards as she approached the ground, feeling the satisfying resistance of flesh against steel as her knives slashed across the back of the Officer. Without pausing to see the extent of damage, she hit the ground rolling, then immediately used the forward momentum to launch herself into an alleyway on the other side of the street, again jumping to the relative safety of the rooftops.

the rage intensified as he failed to take down the Kilij, Akuma leaps into the air charging his hammer tries to aim and bash the skull of his opponent with force that will surely pulverize a rock.

The Officer frantically looked around, spotting an elf on a nearby Rooftop, figuring they wer the one that threw the axe and just slide down his back. He was barely touched as his scales easily absorbed most of the damage so far. He went charging for the Elf, slamming his Giant Sword into the building, causing it to collapse. Odin threw another Hatchet at the beast this time landing square in his back, but the beast didn't even notice it.

The Lizard behind the one that struck with it's Kilij dropped it's shield to shelter it from Akuma's blow, blocking both the hammer, and inadvertently, Helzebeth's arrow. Akuma's blow didn't have the weight behind it to break the shield this time. They all tried to stab out towards Akuma, 9 spears all headed to hit him. Magni, kept getting in blows where he could though it was tough getting through these shields. Being made out of solid obsidian, they were almost impossible to break, probably even with most magics. They had to be ungodly heavy as well, so Magni was at least glad the Creatures had no way to swing them freely to hit them, since it would probably be much more effective then their spears.

The wolf felt his master's annoyance and searched for the cause, turning just in time to see her arrow get deflected like it was nothing.

He turned and snarled, leaping on the lizard that blocked the blow and arrow, latching on at tearing at its neck from behind.

Helzebeth watched as Hunter tore at the lizard and fired a shot at the lizard she'd aimed for again. Not looking to see if the arrowhead pierced through its mark, she turned in search for the bigger reptilian.

A building began to crumble, and she saw her next target slam into the wall, causing its imminent downfall.

Found you. The next second an arrow dipped in flames zipped through the air, aimed at the thing's nape.

The Kenku and Wolf did a great job dividing the Lizardmen. Sigurd took the opportunity to go after the confused enemies. Steadily he built up his rhythm, moving and striking his opponents. Flow like the wind, move like the sword is a part of you.

Soon he was in a sort of a trance, only concentrating on his technique and speed. Nothing else mattered but the battlefield. Here and now. Sigurd started his battle dance around the Kenku who was surrounded. The Lizardmen were slowed down by their heavy shields, making it easier for Sigurd to dance around them and strike them in their blind spot. His swords didn’t manage to completely cut through the black scales, but Sigurd didn’t care. As long as he could slow them down the Kenku could use brute force to deal them the finishing blow.

Akuma jumps out of dodge the rest of the spears and spread his wings to take the some incoming blow, as he spins his body his hammer in a whirlwind motion tries to disarm the rest of their spears remaining. the Lizardman was divided as soon as the wolf aided Akuma.

As the Lizard with his sword turned to slash at the Wolf on his friend an Arrow landed in his shoulder, he continued his swing however right at the wolf's neck. The arrow aimed at the Officer, bounced harmlessly of his scales. Odin saw this, a sinking feeling coming over him, looking closely at the Scales he realized their were overlapped, and ranged wouldn't do much good against the Officer, perhaps that is why the beast wasn't wearing a chestplate with any of the rest of his armour. Odin had get in nice and close. He snuck up on the Officer and swung his last Hatchet into the Beast's Calf. Predicting it's reaction he jumped back, leaving the Hatchet in it's leg. He was right, it almost instantly swept it's leg back to knock over whatever was attacking it. Odin was in a good spot fighting this beast as Dwarves were trained in the ways of fighting Big foes. However, he had to get his Hatchet back otherwise he would be pretty useless.

The Lizard's Quickly Split into groups of Five the first group Surrounding Akuma, the Second Sigurd. They all drew their Kilij as a few more ran forward to occupy the fighters at the front, Magni Crushed the skulls of a few of the rabble that flooded in, Making his way back to the Soldiers with the shields. One Lizard rushed Sigurd with his Shield using it as a huge battering ram, as the others took swipes to the side to try and prevent him from dodging either way.

Jeneve felt the ground beneath her shake as the building began to collapse. Ah, crap. She ran to the side of the rapidly falling roof and leapt to the rooftop of the adjacent building, landing rather roughly. Blood trickled from a cut along her left forearm. She frowned. That was going to leave a scar. There were few things about herself that the Elven thief took pride in, but her flawless skin was one of them. Flawless skin which was now marred. Anger burned in her eyes. Leaping down from her new building, she again slashed the Officer across his back, then launched herself, feet-first, in between the Officer's legs, sliding through to his other side while slashing at his calves. Once she was in front of the Officer, she turned back and stuck out her tongue at him, lobbing one of her spare knives to dislodge the hatchet - Odin's, most likely - which had somehow found its way into his skin at some point. Then she ran.

The Officer pulled a net from his waist belt, as he threw it towards Jeneve, Odin took the chance to retrieve his axe. He picked it up and quickly crunched it down back into the same wound he had made before, this time the skin was loose enough he could draw the hatchet as he retreated. The Officer quickly slammed his Sword into the ground knocking Odin to the floor. The Officer went for a Deathblow, but Odin rolled out of the way barely in time. He picked a Small knife out of the pocket in his waistcoat, and threw it hoping to distract the beast. It didn't work as it kept it's eyes trained on the Dwarf, and went for another overhead Strike.

Marcus jumped in the fray to aid Magni and Xavier. His fellow Cinder Knight seemed to have taken some nasty blows, and, as soon as Magni went to help the opposing forces were at them.

He jumped in the frontline beside Magni, raising his shield to deflect a Kilij blow aimed at him while slashing his still hot sword in a wide arc in the direction of the attacker.

The sword melted just the edge of the shield that blocked it becoming stuck. The Lizard Creature couldn't move so he ducked behind his shield as much as possible. Magni Bashed him from the side with his hammer, yelling "Dewloc!" A Harsh flash came off the hammer as it knocked the Lizard cold.

A net. The Officer had a net. Jeneve hated nets. She hated anything that restricted movement, really. She quickly sliced open the ropes binding her, then rolled away, watching the Officer engage in battle with Odin. As the Officer raised his axe for a devastating overhead strike, Jeneve quickly threw the last of her spare knives at his palm as she closed the distance. Tightening her grip on her weapons, Jeneve jumped forward in a leaping stab, her daggers held slightly above her head, poised to be driven deep into her adversary's bleeding back.

Wounds was inflicted on Akuma's wings as he reach back and snaps pieces of the spears in his metal arm, as his anger grew stronger and stronger. The birdman was running on adrenaline and fueled rage. His vision was red and only can see his allies infrared moving as they fight.

Akuma lets out a powerful eerie earshattering bird like screech to distract the enemies with in radius. Without hesitation Akuma dashes towards the nearest lizard that he can hit, takes a full swing at it with a force like wrecking ball.

((cause i had it with this motherfucking lizards on my motherfucking character))

Marcus smiled as Magni knocked down the first Lizard. These guys were far quicker than he expected, but they were too reliant on their shields and couldn´t stand attacks from two directions at the same time. He than faced the next opponent, launching a barrage of cuts on it´s way to force it on a defensive position.

She hit, staggering the Officer and sending his blow off-target, but not enough. It hit Odin in the shoulder, a fountain of blood spewing forth. The Officer nearly collapsed on top of him as well, but he rolled out of the way clutching his mangled shoulder. The Sword fell from the Officer's grasp, and collided with the ground and shattered, releasing an arcane explosion. it sent Jeneve and Odin flying, Odin slammed into a nearby wall, extremely injured, bleeding profusely. Magni saw the explosion. "NOOOO!!!" he screamed as he thought his father might be dead. He swung his hammer towards another of the Lizard Creatures, it's head collapsing with a spurt of blood. He ran past the last few remaining enemies and the fleeing rabble of the enemy force to find his father. Nearly all the nearby structures started to crumble to the ground. Magni reached his father, Odin barely clinging to life. He used the lay on hands to heal his Father's wounds. As he did this, his own shoulder, tore open. As the unfortunate drawback to the Lay on Hands, you must take on the Pain of those you take it away from. He stood with his father crying, as Odin awoke. The warm embrace of his son kept him alive. Odin noticed the rabble was to occupied to pay any mind to them, so they sat in the shelter of a half fallen home, as the storm raged on.

Akuma spattered the brains of one of the Lizard's against the nearby stonework as they turned to run. They all began to flee, all the forces running from the field. However, something horrfying started to happen. The rain from the storm turned to Blood. He would soon arrive. An overwhelming felling of dread, and the tendrils of dark evil would wash over the heros.

Jeneve slammed into a wall, hard. Pain wracked her body. An explosion of that magnitude had to have killed the Officer, after all the damage it sustained. If it didn't, well, there was nothing more she could do. She could already feel consciousness slipping away. She didn't feel injured enough to die, but she might take a short nap. As her vision blurred, she spotted a heartwarming scene of Odin and Magni embracing, and a bittersweet smile flashed across her face. What she would give for a family... She relaxed, and her vision went dark.

(OOC: Unconscious, not dead. 3am here. Sleepy.)

Hunter saw the blade and dropped in time-- barely. The blade cut into part of the wolf's thick neck, making him squeal a little.

The wound stung and bled, yes, but the fact that it made him squeal in pain... He didn't like that one bit. The huge wolf bared its fangs furiously and snarled even more loudly. He leapt for the arm with the sword in a flash, with a hunger for revenge. It tasted like lizard and blood as he sank his sharp fangs into its flesh through the gaps in its armor(if it has any on its hand-wrist area), aiming for the vital vein.

What in the name of Tectanitus? A blast of some sort disintegrated the nearby buildings. Helzebeth stayed on the church, which was a few houses out of reach.

But that wasn't what ailed her. Something in the pit of her stomach churned, making her feel uneasy once more.

She nearly recoiled as she realized that it was blood, no longer water, that fell upon the earth. Horrible omens... Helzebeth eyed the arrows buried in the roof and pulled one out. It was tipped with sharpened obsidian. She prepared by gathering what arrows she could.

Sigurd got hit by the heavy shield, breaking his rhythm. He was surrounded by five of them with no way out. This is gonna hurt, but I have no choice. He charged into the two Lizards on his right. Sigurd reflected the first one, but the second managed to cut his arm. Ignoring the pain, Sigurd lashed his swords at the first Lizard and kicked it to bring it out of balance. Then he used all his might to push it against the one holding the heavy shield. Both fell on the ground and Sigurd used them to jump over the remaining two enemies.

The Templar landed, rolled over the ground and didn’t waste any time. He buried his swords in the neck of a Lizard and used it as a shield against the other. Meanwhile the other three had regained their balance and joined their surviving friend. “Four against one? Not enough!” Sigurd yelled as he charged in, killing another one.

Before he could find rhythm again, it started raining blood, distracting Sigurd and his opponents. “What the hell is happening here?” he asked while the enemies ran away.

The Lizard Marcus had been fighting suddenly opened his guard and began to flee as a big impact wave struck the combatants. Marcus was pushed backwards by it, and than he saw the fallen body of the officer, his giant sword in lying in pieces on the ground. Odin and Magni were resting on the remainings of a house, both looking seriously injured. Jeneve lied on the ground too, and Marcus raced towards her to make sure she was ok, but after a quick check he found out she was just unconscious.

He than felt something very strange, some sort of evil Aura, and all of a sudden the rain turned red. He tasted it... and felt the taste of blood.

“What the hell is happening here?” he heard Sigurd ask.

"Dunno, but whatever it is, it don't look good." Marcus answered him.

With no time for celebrating their victory, he waited on guard for the next foe.

A spot of music to fit the mood.

And then Evil Incarnate rode in. A Flaming Black Steed carried a formidable man sized being towards the destroyed town, As it ran it hooves caused everything it touched to wither and die, leaving a trail of Blackened earth in it's wake. The blood rain ceased as he came into sight, it was only a warning for those that saw it. Magni and Odin came to join Marcus, in the street. "What in the name of the Nine Divine's is that?" Odin said. "I don't know Father, but I have a feeling it is the last thing threatening our village, we must steel ourselves." Magni replied.

Destiny quickly rode towards our heros, their fates were about to be written in blood, and sealed in the darkness of the lands. Fate, a cruel Mistress, would send them a foe that they could not defeat, though they had no way of knowing it. The Evil rode closer and closer, while the air became more and more sickly, Evil almost literally filling the air. They had a short time with which to brace themselves, for the impending doom was close.

As soon as the new enemy entered the field, Marcus realized that was no ordinary foe. If the creepy horse and the blood rain weren't enough warning, the very feel that emaneted from him was of pure power. This was an enemy worth a great hero, and Marcus smiled with antecipation of the fight to come. It seemed that coming to this place would finally prove worth the effort.

"You guys don't worry" he told his companions "This big guy is mine!"

He raised his shield and blade in fighting stance, setting both ablaze, as well as creating a fiery circle around him. The flames illuminated the wrecked street as the misterious horseman rode in their direction.

Drug'thok stepped in front of the line of his allies. "Stand back," he ordered, his voice solemn. He watched with curiosity as the lizard-men fled, then turned his attention to the rider approaching them. Drug'thok closed his eyes and reached out with his magic, attempting to feel what the earth felt near the rider. The air reeked of death, and the earth seemed to rebel against the entity's very existence. He turned his head so the others in the group could hear him. "This... thing that is approaching... It is a more powerful foe than any who were here before." The sorcerer retracted his magic senses, the maleficence of the entity leaving him light-headed. As he pulled away from the entity, he felt his health returning. Is he of Death? Drug'thok wondered to himself.

Sigurd looked in awe as the being on his flaming horse came closer. The thing spread a feeling of despair and death. The Half-Orc warned them to be careful, but Marcus prepared to attack. Every sense in Sigurd’s body told him he should listen to the Sorcerer, but that went against the way of the warrior. How could he ever face his kinsmen again if he ran away now?

“Nice party tricks! Setting your horse on fire and make it rain blood. You’re nothing but a showoff, are you?” he yelled at the being. Sigurd collected every bit of strength he had left and dashed forward. He raised his swords, preparing to strike the last enemy.

An Eerie voice seemed to ring out from everywhere, it sounded as if it came from the bottom of a cavern. "Darkness, give me strength, to purge the Wicked from this land. Give me your lance for my charge into the enemy so that I may pierce their souls, and deny them entry to the heavens." With this a great aura of Darkness appeared in the Knights Right hand. All of a sudden an Umbral Lance made of pure darkness appeared in his hand. He leveled it towards a bunch of sailors that were fleeing the scene, and skewered them upon his lance. The skin turned black where it struck, and the blackness traveled up their bodies. Their very skin burned away, charring and turning to dust, and being blown away in the terrible winds of the storm. Now The Gentleman leveled his lance at a new target. Sigurd. The Templar of Aelia had no idea what he was in for. Without even a flinch, the Gentleman rode forward, seeming to not care about Sigurd's words.
