Under the Hill - First Circle: Judgement

"Of course! A Man should take Pride in his work. Otherwise it won't be worth doing."

A moment passed, Byron´s voice echoing in the library. Than the Judge talked again inside his head.

"You spoke truly, you may go ahead. But remember, your sentence will still come"

Again the voice faded in the distance, leaving Byron alone once again.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Nolan was quite surprised with the place he was in. He was heading towards one of the shelves to take a look at a book when he heard the voice.

"This Court Is Now In Session. Before you proceed, be warned that no lies are allowed. Answer true and answer right, or your sentence will only come faster."

"Ha. As if true justice really existed." he said with scorn "A good lie in the right time is always a sure way out."

He than stood still for a moment, listening. He heard people talking, and than a loud noise of multiple things falling on the ground.

His eyes gleamed "Oh well, either it seems I'm up for some fun."

Nolan headed for the sounds.

Ethic watched from his hiding place as the boy began to panick. He groaned as the kid cried for help.

"Hello is someone there, Can someone help me!?"

This guy's got no idea just how much danger he's in, does he?

He continued watching as the boy somehow managed to destroy an entire section of book shelve by just touching it on accident. The massive amount of noise from the books falling and wood splintering as it fell was combined with the boy again calling out:

"Oh dear, I'm so sorry!"

As well as the sound of clumsily loud footsteps as the boy retreated.

"God.... I have to help this kid. he's so oblivious to the danger here that he'll probably get killed if someone doesn't intervene..." Ethic whispered to himself as he got out of the small alcove and tore off after the boy, his footsteps near silent. Luckily he was far faster than the kid and managed to split down another row of shelves, hiding in a small alcove and waiting for .the boy to pass by.

Those heavy, loud foot falls came finally, and Ethic reached out quickly,He grabbed the boy by the Arm and pulled him into the alcove, looking him hard in the eyes.

"Kid, what the hell are you doing?" he whispered harshly

"This place is full of terrors and not-very pleasant people, and you just set up a beacon of noise for the latter."

Ethic's tarot was again doing the strange heat and light thing. It shown with white through Ethics open jacket, stronger than ever before, hotter than ever before, it nearly seared Ethic's chest through his clothing. He winced a little, letting go of the boy and trying to find the cards. The heat and glow stopped when he placed his hands on them however.

letting go of the cards, Ethic addreses the boy again

"Well, What are you doing? Why are you in this place, where's your parents? because you barely look past twelve."

He waited for the boy to answer

"Your sentence doesn't scare me, I am guilty of nothing so I have nothing to fear, but I will play your game for now." Byron said as he walked down the aisles of the Library, his gun still drawn. He hoped to be through this place soon, it felt too inviting, as it reminded him of his home. He heard this was a place of horrors, so far it was only musty old books. He hoped for something more, interesting.

From out of nowhere someone grab the young painter's arm.

"Kid, what the hell are you doing?"

"Don't hurt me mister!" as he plead with his remaining hand clutched through his head.

Ixidor was too frighten too answer that question, trying to catch his breath and calm down his heart beat. as he glance at the stranger with some sort of a military background due its clothes. and the stranger said

"Well, What are you doing? Why are you in this place, where's your parents? because you barely look past twelve."

"Well sir" as Ixidor catches his breath in the mid sentence and wipe the tears from his eyes with his hand as you can see the fear in his eyes. "Are you the voice that i heard from earlier? sentencing me? Well.. uhmm.. I'm Ixidor Mctracy and the reason i got here in search for the perfect art that my parents sent me to find in this hill. they had this crazy idea that when i reach my teen hood i must embark on this quest of some sort or that my parents hate me."

"I don't know whats going sir but im really sorry about the ruckus i made."

as he poorly stutter with every word as he breaths heavily. as Ixidor says to the stranger "I'm sorry to bother you"

as he tries to walk away trying to end the conversation.

Ethic was surprised by his answer.

What the hell kind of parents sends their child to this place.

The boy tried to leave

"I'm sorry to bother you"

"Wait." Ethic said, once again grabbing the boy's arm to prevent him from leaving. he couldn't help but be sympathetic, the boy apparently didn't have a very good relationship with his parents, and neither did Ethic and his remaining parent.

"I'm Ethic." He let go of the boy's arm, hoping he would stay and listen.

"Listen, you go back out there..." He paused, he could hear the very faint sound of footsteps approaching. Someone had indeed been attracted by the noises of the shelf's destruction. he decided to speed up his proposal.

"You go back out, and there's a very good chance that you'll end up dead. You're just too much of a noob, I'm sorry, but thats the truth. I heard a lot of things about this place, and non of them are good. there's traps and all types of horrors here, not to mention a few... people that I saw come in, that I got a bad feeling about."

He could hear the footfalls. They were still somewhat far, but they were yet a little closer than before. Ethic Jumped to the point.

"OK Man, I'd feel kinda bad if you got offed down here, so how about a deal: I'll help you search for this "Perfect Art" thing and watch your back for you, and you'll help me find anything of value that might be down here, and watch my back for me. Deal?"

He thrust out his hand and waited for the boy's response

Nolan turned around a corner just in time to see a woman walking away from the massive pile of books in the ground, unsuspecting of his presence. He smiled and started to walk towards her, drawing a knife from his pocket in a swift motion.

He than saw something strange.

There was some kind of... shadow, coming out of the open books on the floor. At the same time, he started to hear a multitude of whispers, though they were too indistinct to understand. "What the..." he managed to say before his jaw dropped of surprise.

The shadows were taking human forms. There were dozens of them, dark holes where their eyes and mouths should be, whispering in a mismatched simphony of voices in angry, painful and lecherous tones.

They began to spread around, a group going after the ginger woman, another turning around a nearby corner, and one last coming at him.

Now, Nolan was not a coward. Neither stupid. When shadows simply rise out of the blue, start mumbling, and come at your direction when you have a knife as a weapon, there's only one smart thing to do.

He turned around and ran.

Rose was a couple feet past the pile of books when a strange, tingling feeling spread throughout her body. Eyes wide, she stopped with rememberance. "The last time I felt this way," she breathed, "was when my family disowned me."

Turning around, she saw several shadowy figures rising from the fallen books, coming toward her in what she could only describe as a menacing manner. It crossed her mind that these creatures could be the things that were going to be doing the "sentencing"; it would make sense, seeing as there weren't speakers for the voice to come from and there were books all around. She considered running from the creatures, but realized that she didn't want to run anymore.

Rose took a firm stance with her feet at shoulder's width. "I'm ready to begin sentencing," she told the oncoming shadowy figures. "Ask me what you will."

The violent crash of books and wood coliding with marble shattered the silence once again.

"What in the...?! I knew it, I knew I wasn't alone. No doubt about it."

Damian's heart began to race, yet not from the sudden sound. Almost as if something had set off an alarm in his body was telling him to that something was watching. But what scared him more was that there was more than one of this something.

"What ever this trial is, it's not...natural. All I have to do is not lie, eh? Someone once asked me if I could expose all my secrets to save my life. Ha ha, I guess we'll see soon enough, now won't we..." said Damian to himself.

Damian continued with extreme caution rooted in his heart, not for a second loosening its frantic grip.

Ixidor cease his weeping and was relief that he gained a friend out of this god forsaken place. He wipes his runny eyes and nose with his hand and extend his hand "sure thing mister Ethic" ((Im pretty sure you don't wanna shake that))

"But I think your doing this out of sympathy, I don't think I'm much of a fighter though, i might be a burden to you like my family always treated me." as he said with a sad tone.

As the young painter pulls out his sketchpad out of his sachet and draws something not realizing with every stroke of his pen has a magical feeling surges to his artwork.

"But your not like me, I think you're just like a lion! courageous and a natural born hunter!" as Ixidor says with a radiant tone and turns his sketchpad towards Ethic showing the quick sketch of lion, hoping for his approval.

Suddenly a burst of light came out of the sketchpad, Ixidor drops the pad in his surprised. as the page seems to ripple as the sketch dissolves into the air leaving only a blank page. A one eye Lion appeared out of the paper, the lion seems hungry as it looks toward Ethic and Ixidor like its next meal, as it releases a mighty fearsome roar.

"Oh gawd!? Did i just do that!?" with a concerned and frighten look at Ixidor's face.

((Btw, the part that i erase on bookshelf should be is returning soon to its natural form, but the pile of books are still scattered on the ground))

While wondering around Mr. Taylor had been drawn to the crashing and banging of the bookshelves' collapse, and started heading in that direction, assuming, of course, that some other researcher or archeologist was down there. On his approach he noticed two boys, one no older than a pre-teen, the other perhaps near his 20's being confronted by a one-eyed lion. In a hurry, Mr. Taylor reached into his bag and pulled out a leftover steak which he had saved from lunch. He tossed the steak past the lion causing the jungle cat to run in the direction of the food.

"Quickly boys, this way!" he called out to the two boys, urging them in his direction.

All of a Sudden a Giant Cat Beast jumped into the Isle. Byron would have thought it a Lion except it had only one eye. Not being one to wait around, Byron fired The Preacher at it while it was occupied eating something. Most of the buckshot Landed in it's head and shoulders. "Amen, Hell-Beast." said Bryon, smoke rising from the gun barrels. The 2 empty Shells clicked on the floor as he reloaded.

As Mr. Taylor turned around to make his escape from the one-eyed lion he heard, what sounded like a gun-shot, most likely a shot gun. He turned around to notice a man, who appeared to be old enough to at least be there, but did seem a bit out of place. "Excuse me sir!" He called out to the man, "My name is Mr. Taylor and I was just wondering if by any chance you have any idea of what is going on here, or if you could at least shed some light on why a lion is in a library," he then turned to the two younger boys, "And why in fact are you two here? This is no place for children, you really must be more cautious."

After the lion, the old man helping them and the gunshot, Ixidor was surprised as the old man pointed out to him. as he takes a quick glance the shady character with a gun. Ixidor winced and was speechless with these many people gathering around him. As he take a mental note Maybe these people are the ones Ethic is talking about, but i don't know who to trust as Ixidor stands idle.

Others, lovely, should have known there would be others. Byron thought to himself. Lucky for me they seem under-equipped, if if fire now they will probably run off, but there is no fun in not making it dangerous for them.

"I am sorry, but if it is the treasure you are after, it belongs to me." Byron said a wicked smile on his face. "It is time for a sermon." Byron leveled his Shotgun towards the man. Not even waiting for a response, he let go another shot, Sending molten lead hurling down the aisle.

Kenny heard the report of a shotgun. then it sounded again. he rushed into the Aisle, arriving just in time to se the gun-toting man level his shotgun and say: "It is time for a sermon." Kenny didn't need to be told what would happen next. the gun fired, and Kenny had only a second to throw down a makeshift wall of Solidified air, which stopped the Buckshot from the (presumably crazy) person with the gun. however, his cover had been blown, as he and the wall had glowed a light blue while he was creating the wall.

"if you're going to do some preaching, do it with the Bible, not a shotgun!"

As Kenny walked towards the three who had been aimed at, he decided that maybe it would be best if he teamed up with those guys. after all, 'Safety in Numbers' would probably determine whether anyone survived this ordeal or not.

"i'm Kenny. who're you?"

Ixidor has trouble opening his lips after what he just saw and the event that he created before. As he addresses which seems to be a kid like himself.

"I'm Ixidor" as he ended his introduction with a faint tone and hesitated to speak the rest of his thoughts.

He paused and mustard the courage to figure out what is going on by addressing everyone. as he yelled "Who are you people!? look i don't want any conflict here but it seems to me you people have some sort of a bad blood here. What is going on here with the lions, the shotguns and the barriers!?" as he cries at the end of his question.

"I'm ready to begin sentencing. Ask me what you will."

The shadows did not stop going on Rose's direction, walking slow and steady under the sound of their whispering voices. There were five of them. Two looked like mans - one pretty big, another one thin and tall- two had woman's shapes and the last was very small, maybe a kid. All of a sudden they stopped, letting out a chilling scream on a high pitched tone through the air. The "kid" seemed to somehow grow claws, and jumped forward to Rose, the others on it's toes.

At first nothing happened when Enyia opened the book. It seemed to be a list of some sort.

On the left of each page there was a column with dates. The right column, however was the disturbing one.

12/06/1674, 01:24 am ---------------------> Betrail. Stabbed best friend in the back, left him to die.

15/06/1674, 19:35pm ----------------------> Lust. Had carnal relations with said friend's widow.

25/06/1674, 15:28pm ------------------> Rage. Strangled said widow upon knowing she delated him to autorities.

05/07/1674, 11:25am -----------------> Perjury. Lied to the court at his judgement.

10/07/1674, 12:01pm -----------------> Blasfemy. Offenses to the heavens at his execution.

Before Enyia had time to read anything else, the pages blackened. The book turned hot, and from it came out a shadow in the shape of a bald man. It rose up, murmuring something incomprehensible before looking down at the kid. Than it stretched a long arm in her direction.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nolan kept running until he could not see the shadows anymore. Breathing heavily, he sat down in the middle of the empty corridor he now was in.

"What in hell were these things?!" he thought alarmed. Than he forced himself to calm down.

"Well, seems the rumors about this place were not only rumours. I better watch my step"

Before he could think of anything though, the voice from before sounded in his head.

"Nolan McKyntyre . Are you ready to answer the court's questions?"

Nolan started to get angry. He couldn't even get some rest? "Ah to the hell with that. Ask what you want!"

"Than, this trial shall begin" the voice answered.

"What is going on with the lions, the Shotguns, and the Barriers!?"

this sudden outburst was a little uncalled-for, but in the other kid's place, he probably would've freaked out, too.

"i'm the cause of the Barrier, but i don't know why the other guy was shooting at you, or where that... lion, for lack of a better word, came from. i wonder... did anything else odd happen before the lion appeared?"

Ellaria got into the cave. "Good, finally a shelter, this rain makes me so cold" . She huged herself and start to walk and fell the floor with her feet.

" Wait, this floor is not made of rocks and soil. I think this is... marble? Where am I?"

The more she went inside the cave, the more she felt warm. "God, where the hell am I??"

She smelled the air. It felt like old oak and dust....

"Where am I?"

Then she heard this horrible scream, sounding like scratched steel and anger and despair.

"Whats is going on here???"

She began to ran, terrified and blindly, until she hit a shelf. She fell on the ground, over a pile of books.

She felt hands grabbing her, scratching her. Not human´s hands. Something´s hands...

"I can´t trust anyone" she whispered to herself "I can´t trust, life taught me that, I can´t scream for help"

But she did:

-HEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!

"HEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!"

a sudden cry for assistance caught Kenny's ear, and he rushed off to the source, only to find that a shadow-like being was attacking a girl.

"OI! LEAVE HER ALONE!"

he then let loose a devastating pulse of energy, obliterating the shadow, and knocking down several shelves in the process, which dropped their books, and those landed open, releasing more of the shadowy forms.

"oops. RUN FOR IT!!!"

he then ran form the creatures like there was no tomorrow, only stopping next to the group he'd first encountered.

"no time to explain! run for your life!"

he then sprinted away from the creatures that were headed his way.

The book Enya first pulled out looked old and crumbly. Pretty dus.. dus..

"Yeaa-aachoo!" Uuggh..

Enya pulled out a little white-laced-with-baby-blue handkerchief to wipe her nose with. Yucky dust.

What were these words? They looked like they were written in some other language... oh?

It was a list of some sort.

... Bad people. Bad names. Bad deeds. Bad. Bad bad bad bad bad.

The bad seemed to manifest itself in a black thing that looked like a bald old man.

Black. Dark. Dark evil. Evil old man. Evil old BALD man.

Enya didn't like him. No. No. NO!

"Go away!" She threw the heavy book as far away from her as possible, grabbed Ace and ran.

The shadows were grabbing Ellaria when she heard:

-OI! LEAVE HER ALONE!

Some misterious hero came for her and saved her... for a while." I think he dropped books...???" -she thought

-RUN FOR IT!!! -she heard

She tried to follow the sound of his steps, running madly , hitting more and more shelfs and dropping dozens of books on her way.

-WAIT FOR ME!!! I´M BLIND!!!!!

"WAIT FOR ME! I'M BLIND!!!!!"

D'oh!

Kenny then realized that he'd left the other person behind. he opened a portal to her, and kept his end close to him, so she'd have an easier time getting away from the Sin-creatures.

"run this way! i've got a portal open, and those creatures aren't nice!"

his voice went through the portal, reaching the Girl's Ears.

he then opened another portal to the Group, and told them to get through it.

however, that's when he passed out.

Urgency gripped Damian's heart like death yanking a soul away from its flesh. Something happened. He needed to go.

The somethings that he'd felt were now....in danger? Whatever it was he needed to take action and he supposed stop whatever was happening.

As he ran he heard several gunshots, one sailing right infront of him in fact. He planted is feet, trying to ground himself and think about what he was doing.

Whao seriously?! Gunshots?! Who the heck is in here?! ...Ah, I know there is someone in danger but, where and why am I so compelled to hep them? Way too many questions just gotta go.

Damian ran through several corridors with an acute sense of where he was supposed to go, as if he had a built in gps. Before he turned around a corner Damian caught a glimpse of a tall man holding what appeared to be a shotgun. He immediately stopped an hid behind a nearby bookshelf as to not be seen.

However in the other direction he heard a cry for help and several books hitting the floor. Being every so silent, Damian slipped away from the man with the gun and headed toward the sound of turmoil. I really need to make up my mind, this is getting exhausting.
