Under the Hill - First Circle: Judgement

Speaking on turns...

Right around the corner, the Wolf beast stopped. It had caught the scent of the group a while before, and now it was hearing their voices. It jumped over the nearest bookshelf with a fluid and surprisingly silent motion for something that big, and once in there it looked down at the group, preparing to strike.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

"So, first let's clear out something. You, like it or not, are one and the same, it's only a matter of looking at your statements. People always tend to separate the good and evil inside them, but in truth it's all together. Remember this, boy." Minos told Ixidor after hearing his last answer.

"Now to the last one, this is getting boring. What is is biggest flaw, and what do you have that redeem yourself?"

the voice inside Ixidors head subside as he fell down on his knees. "what was that? not really a good impression infront of this jury. was that really my thoughts showing?" as he mumbles.

"Now to the last one, this is getting boring. What is is biggest flaw, and what do you have that redeem yourself?"

Ixidor stands up and pull him self together as he sniff his nose "Uhmm...i'm sorry that my life hasn't been exciting than the people i meet here, but my biggest flaws is that the mistakes i make always out weights my right doings cuz thats the only one that counts for me, my life apparently hasn't have an eraser and i not really good at fixing stuff like my drawings. I wanna prove something! "

he hesitate to answer the last question and only words that he can think of and release from his lips as "I don't know" as he shed a tear running from his face.

Rose felt a sense of foreboding yet again and swallowed hard. Turning around, she saw nothing, but a movement above her sent her eyes upward in shock. A giant wolf stood atop a bookshelf, poised to attack their small group. "Guys," she gently called out, "we need to run. NOW!"

As she yelled the last part, Rose turned to the wolf, not checking to see if the others had heeded her warning. As it began to jump, she decided to try a new spell, just to see if it would work. "FREEZE WOLF!" she bellowed. Without bothering to see if it had worked, she turned and began to run after the others, whom had already begun to run.

The Beast let out a angry growl as it froze in mid air, losing it's surprise factor. A moment later, however, it's eyes glowed red and it regained movement, landing swiftly in the library's floor. It bared it's fangs to the group and started to give them chase.

-------------------------------------------------

"Very well, Ixidor Mctracy. The jury will discuss your case and I will call you once we have your sentence ready."

Minos brought his hammer down on the desk, and at the same moment Ixidor vanished from the courtroom, being sent back to the library. He then turned to the other indictee - still unconcious on the floor - and hammered the table once more, causing him to wake up.

"Now it's your turn, Ethic Ytilaron."

Ethic woke from his sleep at the sound of a gavel hitting a wood table. He opened his eyes, looking around and knowing that he was no longer in the library, but in some type of court room. the same thunderous voice from when he entered the library sounded.

Well, guess this is what they meant by court...

"Now it's your turn, Ethic Ytilarom."

He presumed that this meant it was his turn to be examined. he got to his feet, surprised that all pain had fled his body. He looked up at the Judge's podium.

He remembered the warning before. and that was fine, because Ethic wasn't a guy who was very fond of lies, and didn't intend to tell any.

"Very well then, your honor." He said

"I'm ready."

"Why are you here Mr. Ytilarom, and what do you desire from this place?"

Ethic answered the question.

"Your honor, for the past year or so, I have wondered the land, driven away from my home due a... series of disagreements with my father. I have been searching for anyway to restore my family's business from the state my father has dragged it into. One day, I heard of this hill on the news while sitting in a cafe eating breakfast."

The Arcana burned in this man's presence, but Ethic ignored it and continued his testimony.

"I thought that If the rumor of the power beneath it was true, I'd be able to indeed restore the family finances to it's lost glory. I gathered information, and set out, arriving here a few hours ago. I desire either of two things from this place, Your honor. the power lying beneath it, or anything of possible large monetary value, Either of which I think would allow me to accomplish my goal."

The Cards burned even hotter, they seemed not to like the judge. All 22 of them actually attempted to activate themselves, but Ethic put all his power into holding them back, denying the Tarot the co-operation that was needed to invoke them. He looked up at the Judge.

"That is why I'm here, your honor, and thats what I desire from this place." He waited for the judge's response.

"Ooh I see..." Judge Minos answered him. "Let's pose an hipotetical question than. Suppose you are close to reach this goal of yours, and that one of the other people that you've found in here is the only thing stopping you yo get it. Would you kill that person, if that was the only way?" The judge's eyes seemed aflame looking at Ethic.

all of a sudden, a slight blur appears in the spot that Kenny disappeared from...

then, a blinding flash of light, and Kenny is standing there, bewildered as to what had just happened.

"WHAT IS GOING ON?! WHERE AM I?!"

(^^Least graceful regeneration ever... but whatever, Welcome back, man.)

Ethic looked into the judges fiery eyes. Thinking about the question deeply.

Finally, he answered.

"Sir," He began "I stand by my word. I value trust and loyalty above all else, despite my wealthy upbringing, my grand father taught me that friendship will always be worth far more than gold."

He stepped closer to the podium, still making sure to keep a respectable distance.

"I would not dare to strike down a friend or ally in the hypothetical situation suggested, even if I was so close to my goal that I could practically taste it. .Betrayal is amoung the worst things that men can do to each other, and nothing in this world has enough value to even come close to justifying such actions. I will not sully my name with the crime of betrayal, not now, not then. not EVER. I will fight to the very end if it means I protect my friends by doing so."

"You're honor, to me, Gold turns into lead when in comparison of the Bonds that tie people together."

He patted "Man Without Honor" as it hung at his side.

"However, for those who endanger myself and my friends, for those who murder others and feel joy about it, whose only friends are greed and self-interest, I would not hesitate to use lethal force against them if or when necessary. I will not stand by and watch as someone else suffers at the whim of others. And I know that people like what I have just described are trepising about this place even now."

He stood, truly believing every word he just said, and waited the judges decision.

Enya suddenly stopped. Why run? The little girl turned around to face the demonic hound, holding Ace tightly.

"YOU SHALL NOT PASS"

She felt that there were so many things in this place that she could use. Maybe it wasn't such a useless library after all!

Maybe Enya had superpowers now too.

With that happy thought, she stood her ground firmly.

Rose began to catch up to the others, and saw that Enya had stopped and was staring firmly at something behind her. "Crap, it didn't work," Rose thought frantically, hearing the paw steps of the beast behind her. "Enya, come on! We have to go!" she hollered.

Seeing that the younger girl wasn't going to move, Rose called to Damian and Ellaria, "Enya won't move, I won't leave her behind."

The first thing Kenny noticed after respawning was this strange wolf looking threateningly at the two mysterious ladies who'd been swept up by the Eagle and then disappeared the last time he'd seen them.

"LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!"

with that, he ran over to the two, and raised a barrier between the Wolf and the Girls, visibly glowing Light Blue in the process. then, he got a large Headache.

"Gah... should've realized i'd get a Headache again..."

suddenly, the Barrier disappeared.

"oh no, this is very bad..."

The Wolf growled to the group. Some hero wannabe appeared along with the other other explorers, but that didn't matter. It was only more meat, more fear to the feast. And as a banquet, better to start with the snaks.

The beast jumped over to the little girl.

On the coutroom, Minos listened to Ethic intently.

"Very well young man, if that's what you believe... One last question and we'll be done here." the judge said.

"What is your biggest flaw - your worse sin - and what redeems you from it?"

Ethic thought long and hard about this... His entire life flashed in memories through his head...

He answered confidently.

"Your Honor... My Biggest Flaw... is That I'm too loyal. I'd probably risk the entire world to save a single person I cared about. but what redeems me for it is my devotion and determination."

He awaited the verdict.

"Oh well. You're a complicated case as well, it seems. The jury will discuss your case and I shall bring you here again once we have reached a decision."

Minos brought his gravel down once again and Ethic was warped back to the library.

"Enya won't move, I won't leave her behind."

Damian say this and began to run back to Enya's side.

"Come on, we've gotta go! What do you think you're doing, you'll get hurt."

But his shouts were in vain. The girl was not moving and the way she stood seemed like she was deeply rooted in the floor, like a stubborn yet brave weed that was about to tango with a lawnmower.

Stil, Damian touched her shoulder to see if he could shake the illusion that she had a chance against the wolf. But when he touched her he was hit with a flood of emotion. Somehow, no matter how many times he thought it over, Damian just knew that Enya was doing the right thing, Or was it that he knew that Enya knew, she was doing the right thing. That didn't matter, he could feel the wolf rushing ever closer, time to move.

"Rose this sounds crazy but we've got to let her stay. I can't explain it, maybe it's those powers you were talking about earlier."

Mr. Taylor took in what Nathan had just said, "Perhaps, you're right, whether or not this is real is inconsequential, what matters is my own perception and if that tells me that a horse made of bone is there, than I must accept that," he said taking in that perhaps he was accepting his own insanity, "Well lad, thank you for that," he stopped and looked around, the set up was exactly the same all over the place. "Hold on for a second," Mr. Taylor said, while walking over to a book shelf, picking up several copies of the books, careful not to open any of them, "Just as I thought, each book is exactly the same, just as each bookshelf we pass is exactly the same," the realization then dawned on him, the passage from earlier, he knew it sounded familiar, how could he have been so foolish, he quickly turned to Nathan. "Did you see a stone with some encryption on it earlier, and if you did, can you tell me what it said?"

"I can't remember seeing anything like that. Speaking of remembering things, however, do you recall hearing a booming voice earlier? Something about being judged?"

Rose looked anxiously at Damian. "You may think it's a good idea, but I won't let her face this thing alone. If she stays, we all stay." she added, glancing at Ellaria, who had just come back. Rose had put together from the look in her eyes that Ellaria was blind.

"Call me crazy, but I think we should all stay together in here, I can feel it."

Ethic found himself standing in an Aisle back in the Library.

"Well, now that that's done for now..."

He looked around, trying to find Ixidor. heard... screaming, wails...Inside his pocket, His Cards were at complete DEFCON 1. the 22 arcana flew out around him, encirling him in a white glow, glyphs burning in the air around him and strange whispering voices in his mind. the power radiating of them was so palpable that it nearly chocked the air. Ethic tried to order them back into their places in the deck, but they refused to respond, apparently set protecting on protecting the young Invoker from an unknown threat, even if he ordered them to stop. the voices were mainly unintelligible, but Ethic caught a few of them...

Judgement...

Judgement...

Judgement...

Final... Judgement...

The Arcana was blazing the brightest of all, hovering in the air as the other cards stayed static. it send out tendrils of white energy, connecting to the cards and creating some type of... for lack of better description, a Matrix Sheild, the grid like by the white energy and the Cards completely surrounding Ethic. Something was completely revoking his control of them.

"What is this!?" He called. The Screeches and wails retreated, shrinking back in seeming terror at the raw Power of the Arcana. It was only then that he Ethic fought to look behind him...

(//OCC:Figured this matched the description Notus gave the Shadows pretty well)

He turned around, noticing hundreds of Shadows standing there, watching him, holding back... he looked around the floor. Open books littered it, along with the decrepit wreckage of a book case, it looked like it had given out from old age...

Damn... that was an awful Idea in hindsight...

Just then a single shadow leaped forward, claws outstended, only to be caught in two in the apex of it's jump. it faded to nothing as the two halves hit the floor. A man in a hood materialized in front of Ethic, a wheel in his hand.he looked familiar....

(Hey, Notus, for Old times sake, can I make him Morgan Freeman? :Kappa: )

He stood staunchly between Ethic and the shades, his very presence acting as a barrier between him and them. He turned and looked at Ethic, and the only thing the young man could see in the hooded mans face was a pair of empty, milk white eyes, they had a faint glow to them, just like the cards. Ethic realized who this was.

"You're the hooded man from that rainbow colored space, the one that said something about me being worthy or something..."

The man glanced over his shoulder at the shadows.

"That's right Ethic," He said "I am the man from the rainbow colored space. But my proper name..." The wheel in his hand expanded to several times it's size, Ethic could see that it had carvings in it at every point where a spoke meet with the outer rim. Each of them was a carving exactly the same as the images on the 22 major arcana cards.

"...Is the Keeper of the Wheel." The shadows were acting strangely, moving backwards and then surging forwards towards them, only to stop themselves and repeat the process.

The Keeper taped the Chariot carving on his wheel, causing both the wood and the card to resonate in blue light.

"Get him away from here." He said.

For the very first time, at that moment, Ethic actually heard the Arcana speak. he looked at the Chariot hovering in the air, and could see the faint outline of a man dressed in roman armor with a winged helm.

"Yes, my Lord."

He had no time to react, the moment after the chariot spoke, he was standing in a completely different section of the library, the transportation had been so swift that his mind hadn't even registered it. He heard the voice of the Keeper in his mind.

"Everything shall be explained in due time, Ethic. I shall release the Arcana back to you now."

With that, the cards immediately lost their bright glow and fell out of the air around Ethic. A tingling sensation came to Ethic's hand, then left. He sent out his will and connected with the cards. they didn't respond at first, but gradually Acknowledged his power, rising slowly back into the air and hovering. After a few minutes, he could feel them fully responding to him again. he ordered them back into the deck.

"The keeper of the wheel..." He muttered silently to himself "what he did with the Arcana... Will I be able to do the same eventually?"

With that thought in his head, he again began the search for Ixidor, walking down the Aisle.

Ixidor answers the final question as the courtroom vanishes right before his teary eyes as he was teleported back to the other side of the library.

as his anxiety is acting up once more.

what if my wayward thoughts got the best of me? maybe that judge was right; my morality are mix maybe that repress emotion was building up everytime i hold on to my mistakes, Arggh.. focus! I'll make sure i'm not letting that happen! well gotta get moving since i'm back here.

He casually walks down the aisle without noticing the shadow creatures sneaking pass circling around his feet trying to flank him, as a horde of shadow creature manifested right before him. Ixidor has this frighten look as if he was about to cry again as he holds his ground. he simply puts out his sketchpad out of his bag and his hands started to glow as the sin shadow creature creepily grins at him.

"There's reason why i'm given this power in this place.. to correct what you have become!" as he draws something while he sniff his runny nose and retain his composure.

"just remember I'm not here stuck with you, You're here stuck with me!" as the sketch pad begins to glow and a Giant Toad appears before his feet knocking some the shadow creatures as he rides it and pummels the rest of them. the Giant toad extending its tongue devouring some of the creatures. as it makes his way through the hall leaping and trampling any shadow creatures in its path.

"Bad doggy; Ace doesn't like you."

The child blinked, and her glacier-like eyes flashed-- literally, literally glowing.

All of a sudden, something seemed to tear open the air in between the wolf and the child.

That something came in the form of a huge monochromatic freight train as it sped into the library through the tear, running over the mad dog-- or, taking it along with it into the next tear-like portal as it left as abruptly as it came.

And the wolf was no more.

"I can't remember seeing anything like that. Speaking of remembering things, however, do you recall hearing a booming voice earlier? Something about being judged?"

"Why, yes I do," Mr. Taylor said, "But, it all makes sense when I walked in to this place I saw an encryption that had a very biblical reference on it, and I believe it's become obvious of where we are, the judgement, the cryptic message, Nathan my dear boy we-." Before he could finish his thought Mr. Taylor was tackled to the floor by a shadow creature. Mr. Taylor struggled with the creature, while reaching for his gun. "Nathan, get out of here, don't injure yourself to save an old man!" he yelled, while pulling out his pistol and aiming it at the creature who had been to preoccupied at clawing at his face.

Mr. Taylor then fired the bullet at the creature, but to no effect, the bullet just phased through the creature. "Damn it, if only there were some way out of this!" with that Mr. Taylor's hand started to glow a dark green. Mr. Taylor was shocked at this revelation, was he also capable of the magic he'd seen everyone else perform? While, he was postulating this he looked around and it seemed as if time itself had stopped. The room was grey and motionless and the monster itself also shined with the dark green aura. Mr. Taylor focused on the creature and as though time itself was being mended the creature moved backwards through time, slashing his face in reverse which healed all of the scars inflicted upon him. Then the creature got back up and flew backwards into a book, along with as Mr. Taylor noted all of the other shadow creatures that had appeared from the same bookshelf. As the creatures disappeared, the books then rose through the air and the bookshelf seemingly rebuilt itself, completely unscathed.

Mr. Taylor let out a huge sigh, the room regained it's color and the dark green color surrounding Mr. Taylor vanished. Mr. Taylor then looked up at Nathan with a look of total confusion. "Who are you my dear boy? And where are we?"

Rose stood, mouth agape with shock, as Enya's eyes began to glow. Then, in front of her eyes, a portal opened up and a train came out of it, ramming into the beastly wolf at full force before dragging it into another portal. Both portals then closed, and Enya's eyes resumed their non-glowing state.

Looking at Damian, Rose stuttered, "I think she just proved that we all have some sort of power." Rose then began to sway on her feet and see double. "Hey, guys? Why are there more than one of you..." With that, she fell to the floor in a dead faint.
