Graterras Chapter 2: A Second Chance [IC]

Raindrop Valkyrie

The Golem crackled as it approached, the Black Fire burning it's bones. It only seemed to leave ash on the surface. The Pitch Black fire crackled, seemingly giving off no light. It roared an inhuman roar as it approached, causing the very air to vibrate. It felt as if the air tried to retreat away from this unholy abomination. Orpheaus came into it's view, slightly shining in his Golden armour. He held his sword in front of him, his one hand on the pommel. The metal disc he protruded when he fought Sigurd had just popped out, forming a small shield on his left arm. "Friends, keep your wits about you. This creature may look slow, but it will surprise you." The beast roared again, As it barreled down on Orpheaus, opening the Jaws of it Dragon Head, trying to clamp around the Victonari. He dodged barely out of the way, and cut down into it's snout. The Creature seemed not to notice the blow, and Swung it's arm, Orpheaus rose his sword to catch it. He was managing to hold on, but the Beast was slowly overpowering him.

"Never let you guard down, ugly thing!" Marcus roared while running. He used the fact that the beast was busy with Orpheaus and dashed forward as fast as he could. In a quick motion he threw himself forward sliding on the ground and aimed a two handed blow on it's leg. Hopefully he would slide past the Golem after the hit and hinder it's movements to make the job easier.

Dru wiped his brow, admiring the field of scattered bones before him. Suddenly, he remembered the Infernal Golem and turned frantically in its direction. He shook his head as he realized that this was a fight even Orphaeus could not win alone. This is why we must fight together, he thought to himself. While his first instinct was to fling boulders at the abomination, he recalled that Orphaeus's sword seemed to have the effect of dampening magic. How can I help...? he pondered. The beast was clearly much heavier than the heroes' Victonari ally. Then, he began to formulate a plan. It only extends so far in any direction, he realized. He began to stomp his feet rhythmically, uttering a simple spell over and over. "Terra locoxe. Terra locoxe. Terra locoxe." He closed his eyes, feeling the earth slightly behind and far beneath Orphaeus's foe begin to move.

It began to expand outward, leaving a large, empty pocket held in place only by the sorcerer's spell. He then jumped high in the air and stomped his feet on the ground. An audible rumble could be heard far beneath the ground as the earth beneath the Infernal Golem began to give way, hopefully just enough to hold it in place while the warriors landed their blows.

The Golem's weight shifted awkwardly, It managed to keep it's balance. Marcus and Xavier's strikes rung true, snapping what looked to be a human Femur, but it didn't shatter all the bones in the leg. It was made up of thousands of unidentifiable parts, and would take a mighty blow to completely destroy the limb. Orpheaus was free now, He moved back.

The golem reached into it's chest cavity now, bringing out some of the pitch black flame. It looked like it held an inky void in it's hand, but heat could be felt coming off of it. It chucked at the ground, threatening to burn all those around it.

"Get Back!" Orpheaus shouted " It is immune to it's own flames, it is trying to kill all of you around it!"

"Roger that." Marcus said after getting up again. He started to retreat as fast as he could, his shield facing the Golem. Fighting without fire was a pain for him, and he was plain annoyed by how little damage his and Xavier's blows did to the thing.

Half of the archers' arrows flew at the little goons and footsoldiers of the enemy; the other, at the infernal monster. Helzebeth herself aimed at the damned thing, firing multiple shots as far as she could. Confound it all, I need to get closer to get a better shot, thought the half-elf. But she couldn't just leave the fighters up there, and knew very well that the more arrows from the wall, the better.

A ravenous, furious wolf came running, meanwhile. It came in time to see the monster throw down what looked like a black hole on fire from a distance, stopping just in time and leaping out of range. Snarling, he stalked backwards, circling it amidst the fallen trees and some boulders, that the creature would not notice him... Yet.

Akuma flinched as the golem remains unshaken. His attack didn't even hurt the infernal's face or any his allies' attempt to knock it off from its feet. The birdman steps back as the golem shifted. The golem stands tall as it prepares its attack. Akuma grips his hammer firmly and prepares to defend himself. "I guess you're not fragile after all, more room for me to smash." Akuma was determine to take down the giant.

The golem shifted towards Akuma, it's movements cumbersome with the awkward amount of bones. It brought both of what could be called it arms down to bare on Akuma. Orpheaus, managed to slip underneath along with Odin. They both caught each others glances for a half second. Odin Lodged one of his hatchets in the belly of the beast, and placed another in a position in line with it. He Pulled apart trying to break as much bone as he could. Orpheaus struck in the middle of where Odin was pulling, cracking the bone under the tension. A few bones breaking loose. They tried running clear of the beast, though it didn't really even notice the damage they had done, it still focused on Akuma.

The Flames from his jet started to fly into the beast's center, but they didn't last long enough to reach. It was apprent the Jet Black flames had a powerful effect even on the Templar's flame. Them seemed ravenous, almost as if they were living and they fed on other flames. The Golem didn't seem to take notice to the Templar above him though despite the flames being pulled towards the jet black flame in his chest.

That golem's attraction is stronger than I had feared. The flying templar redirected himself midair with a short spurt of flame, sending him downward with deadly momentum at the "neck" of the beast. Xavier held his sword in the strongest grip he could muster, readying himself for impact.

((Reckless? What's that? Can I eat it?))

Fangs flashed, and Hunter leapt, tooth and nail poised to tear at those those delicious looking bones, landing squarely on the closest thing to what would be the monster's "neck". Digging his muzzle deep, the ravenous wolf tried to yank what he thought was the monster's throat out.

Sigurd kept cutting down skeleton after skeleton. He remembered Marcus’s challenge, but deep down he mainly did it to fight out a silent battle with Orpheaus. This time he would prove how a real warrior should be. He was so cut up in the little competition, he drifted off and was fighting alongside some villagers, a small distance away from his companions when the Golem showed up. Sigurd started cursing and made his way back. He watched as the Golem didn’t seem to take too much damage as it made its way to Akuma.

“So you’re made of Fire eh? Let’s see how you handle some Wind!” Sigurd moved his blades to create some more wind around him. “Take this!” he yelled as he released a compact force of wind that took, if you watched closely, the shape of a boomerang.

Marcus understood what Xavier was trying. Regardless of what that thing was, there was a good chance that it would die if they took it's head out, and it surely would take them less time to kill it if they all focused in the same point.

"Akuma, you have it's attention, distract it for a while!" he asked the Kenku. "Everyone, focus the blows in the neck!" He jumped forth to attack with a two handed blow just as Hunter appeared from another direction.

Nero arrived at the Bone Golem, sword raised for combat. He rushed in behind it, jumping and pushing off of the bones on its back. He swung towards the neck as he came downwards, hoping to break more than a few bones.

Akuma was relief when he saw Orpheaus out of the golem's clutches along with Odin. Akuma never let his sight off the giant, Not his style to be the bait, Akuma decided to play defense. There's nothing the Kenku can do since the Infernal golem was lock on to him. He follows Marcus's command and decided to distract the golem, he spread his wings and dashes swiftly around the golem hoping to dodge its attacks.

Whoever created this golem wasn't stupid, the area around it's head was well crafted. Even the combined blows of the party had a hard time breaking through it. It collapsed to the ground, shattering into millions of pieces from the 14 foot drop. However the beast still lived. ANd moved around wildly Swinging it's arms, and stomping everywhere. The Jet Black Fire Rumbled, not really disturbed from the wind Sigurd threw at it. It began to pulse, looking as if the beast was prepping another blast of Fire, perhaps it's last. Orpheaus put his hand on Odin's shoulder. "Get out of here, I need to help the others get clear of this thing."

He dashed back running as fast as one in full armour could. "Everyone get away if you can, that thing is planning on discharging it's last remaining energy in an explosion!!! All We can do is run and try to get clear of the blast."

Xavier landed awkwardly after dealing the blow, but he managed to turn the maladroit stumble into a roll (hopefully) before anyone noticed. Caught up in the heat (both figurative and literal) of the moment, he called out, "I'm calling that one mine!" as he sprinted away.

Marcus smiled as the Golem's head fell. "That's it! Good job guys!" he greeted the others. However he left his guard down for a second thinking it had worked and one of the thing's arm swings got him in his back and sent the Templar flying away (luckily he had his shield on his back to protect him a bit.)

Marcus was still catching his breath when Orpheaus shouted his warning. Ouch... Well at least I fell kinda far from it. he thought. "Ok, roger that!" he shouted, getting up and running, still sore from the fall.

Nero landed lightly, listening to the elf's words as he stood.

"I'm calling that one mine!"

He sneered as he moved from the golem. They were treating battle like a game. There was no score; only the living and the dead. If you were to live, you gave it your all; otherwise, you died. He didn't so much care whether he lived or died here, but there was one task on his mind: slaying the death knight. And to him, that was no game.

Hunter seemed to understand the golden Victonari's warning.

Leaping from limb to limb of the monstrosity, he landed gracefully-- for a ravenous beast-- and hit the ground running. The bird-like man was too close to the golem. Circling around the fourteen-foot collection of bone and flame, he located the Kenku and, dipping down first and then rising up from between his legs, got him onto his back. Unfortunately, that was all the weight he could take, especially with an empty stomach ravaging his senses. Dodging the golem, he hit the ground running, and hoping, through the haze of hunger, that if ever he did miss somebody, they could escape on their own.

Dru watched the battle from the walls, still hurling pieces of earth at the skeletons that threatened to overwhelm the defenders. He glanced in the direction of the golem and saw that its head had been removed; however, the earth under it pulsated uneasily. As his comrades fled from the flesh-and-flame horror, he sorcerer realized what was about to occur. There's no way that thing is leaving any of our men or women alive if it's given the chance. The half-Orc stomped his feet, this time offering a loud command. "CARCERE OBSIDETENA TERRA!" he shouted, raising his hands to the sky. Suddenly, the earth around the nearly-finished golem rose up and inward, encasing the abomination in stone.

Akuma pats the wolf's head and decided to disembarks on the wolf's back. The birdman jumps off the wolf as he glides through the battlefield swinging his hammer wildly through the lesser skeleton warriors his way, demolishing everything in his path. Akuma was disappointed he played the bait on that encounter as he flaps his wings and regroups with his running allies.
