Sylvan Nephilim
This is the second part of this thread. Reborn is famous for using xe/xem/xyr to describe the character Adrienn, but what's the equivalent of "sir" or "ma'am" for that? Someone phoned my home earlier today and called me "ma'am". She was trying to be polite, but it backfired because I'm not a woman. So what would be the gender neutral equivalent?
Arkhi
I know that in Legislative-speak, the term "Your Honor" can refer to a judge/formal head of an office that is any gender, but outside of a court, I'm unsure. Similarly (in the Middle Ages, for example), "My Liege" was used to refer to a Lord, but I'm unsure if it could also be used to refer to a Lady, the female equivalent of a Lord. As Ame said in the thread several months past, the English language is polar, leaving room mainly for male and female. Perhaps in another more advanced language, there is a proper term of formality for the non-binary.
Sylvan Nephilim
Apparently, the equivalent to xe/xem/zyr is "Mx", pronounced "Mix" which is short for "Mixter".
Arkhi
Coldplay's album, MX.I think I want everyone to be non-binary so I can make consistent Coldplay references.Anyway, where did you read/learn about that?
Sylvan Nephilim
The person named "Nightfury" or "Kha'Zix" with a black name on the PO server told me that.
Bluewolf
Well, I for one am eager to learn more about this. Before Reborn I had no idea that gender binary even existed so this is good learning experience.
Nan
ser (plural sers) (used in some fantasy novels) An address or courtesy title to any person, especially if their gender and/or form of address are unknown. - from Wiktionary
Sylvan Nephilim
Ser is just the alternate form of Sir in Game of Thrones, it's used to refer to knights. E.x. Ser Jaime. Sir Jaime. Nobody would call Brienne a ser.
