Chevaleresse
It's a working title. Shush. If you're interested in learning more about the mechanics and such that I'm getting inspiration from, here's a link to my collected books: https://drive.google.com/#folders/0B-Rzape0BDI0Sk5fOXBDUkxuU0k If not, do not be concerned. You do not need to know Dungeons and Dragons mechanics to participate in this roleplay. This'll be the signup thread once we get an idea hammered out. Do me a favor and only post once; this will make it a LOT easier to track profiles, since the template is going to get relatively large. The OOC thread is here. Remember, if you want to participate, but you don't want to be a dragon, feel free to create a human or humanoid PC. If you're doing so, there's a bit more leeway than normal. Creating a character that's an established hero or even a monarch of some variety would be perfectly okay. They are almost always evil in traditional DnD settings, though some, notably Eberron, remove this rule. They tend to be slightly weaker, less intelligent, and more physical than their metallic cousins, but are also more numerous. Chromatic dragons revere the evil Tiamat as their god-ancestor. Unlike metallics, a chromatic in its twilight years cannot will itself to die. Metallic dragons are named for metals and tend toward the good end of the alignment spectrum and revere the good Bahamut similarly. The two are considered to be two halves of an original dragon named Io, who created the others. All metallic dragons have a chance of being born with shapeshifting abilities. Metallic dragons have an instinctive urge to destroy chromatic dragons on sight, even if this would result in the dragon's death. They will find other dragons for backup if they are incapable of dealing with the threat. Other types of dragons include gemstone, planar, scourge, and catastrophic dragons. Gemstone dragons are neutral and have stronger psionic powers. Planar dragons are dragons whose natures have been affected by life outside of the mortal plane of existence. Scourge dragons are also known as linnorms and often lack wings. They prefer melee combat almost exclusively and can cause diseases in mortals. Catastrophic dragons are animalistic, primal creatures born from natural disasters. All varieties of dragon have a magically terrifying gaze and high intelligence, though their nature may not show the latter readily. A dragon can undergo environmental diffusion upon dying, imbuing an area with the dragon's power. A red dragon, for example, might create a plain that burns forever without fuel. In 4th Edition, these are the standard, canon varieties of dragon. Metallic Dragons Adamantine Adamantine dragons prefer to live underground or in mountain ranges. They lack horns, but have some scales that move in a featherlike fashion when the dragon is angered or hunting. Adamantine dragons are ferocious and straightforward, demanding obedience from those within their territory but little more. They are excellent fighters on the ground, using flight to avoid obstacles. They tend to live for about 5000 years. Their breath weapon releases a concussive blast of sound. Adamantine dragons collect treasure that reminds them of their homes. They eat large amounts of small prey, and will only eat sentient creatures if it is convenient. Brass Brass dragons live in sandy, rocky, or otherwise arid regions. They are smaller and more agile than most dragon varieties. Brass dragons often act as mercenaries, hiring themselves out to expand their hoards. They tend to be quite friendly and slow to anger (for dragons.) They live for around 3000 years. They hunt on the wing, and are relatively weak in close combat. Their fiery breath pushes targets away. Brass dragons prefer handcrafted treasures of natural materials like stone and wood. They eat whatever they can find, but never eat sentients unless they are truly evil. Bronze Bronze dragons make their homes in island or coastal locations. They have webbing between their toes, allowing them to easily swim in oceans. Bronze dragons hold one ideal above all others, and will relentlessly pursue or enforce it; they are difficult to negotiate with and view the world in blacks and whites. Bronze dragons can live for around 5.5 thousand years. Bronzes have a slight preference for close combat and can fight well underwater. Their breath consists of arcing lightning that jumps between foes. They collect goods that can survive immersion in salt water. A bronze will not eat sentient creatures. Cobalt Cobalt dragons live in frigid gorges and other cold locales. They possess prominent, bulky horns and an overall stocky build. Cobalts are forceful and measure personal worth by their own power, which in turn is measured by the lands under their dominion; this causes them to tend towards brutality. A cobalt dragon expects to live for about three thousand years. Their stocky builds are well-suited for melee, and less so for flight. A cobalt's breath freezes foes. Cobalts collect magical arms and armor, particularly from would-be dragonslayers. A good cobalt never eats a sentient creature, but neutral and evil ones have no problem doing so. Copper Copper dragons live in castle or monastery ruins, preferring lairs with good views in temperate regions. They are small in size but are excellent fliers. They are clever and witty with good senses of humor, and delight in exchanging words with adventurers, but are notably greedy. Coppers can live for around six thousand years. A copper dragon uses its superior aerial mobility in combat; land-based combat is not favorable for them. Their breath is a corrosive acid that hinders movement. Copper dragons hoard fine art, particularly jewelry. Most copper dragons find humanoids more interesting as conversation partners than snacks, and even evil coppers refuse to dine on them. Gold Gold dragons tend to live in grassy plains, though they will lair in a variety of locales. They are the largest dragons, and among the most powerful. Gold dragons are highly arrogant, but value order and lawfulness, often directly or indirectly ruling kingdoms. Gold dragons live to be nine thousand years old. They have long, sinuous bodies with fairly large wings, making them adept in both melee and airborne combat. Their breath is a gout of immolating flame. Gold dragons collect magic items primarily, but will possess more than just these. Golds eat large, dangerous prey, and are more willing than other varieties to consume ore and gems to survive; they avoid eating humanoids. Iron Iron dragons choose lairs with rough, impassable terrain, like dense forests. Their hides are coarse and rough, with older dragons possessing rust-covered streaks. They are particularly violent and ill-tempered, serving their basic impulses. Iron dragons live for approximately 2700 years. They are slightly inclined toward melee, but fight well on the wing. Their breath is a coil of lightning that pulls prey toward the dragon. Iron dragons particularly like gold and silver coins. Good iron dragons won't usually consume humanoids, but evil ones will specifically seek out intelligent food. Mercury Mercury dragons often make their homes in tropical mountain regions, though they are spread far and wide. They have the unique ability to transform into a pool of quicksilver. Mercury dragons have a biological need for variety, and often work with adventurers to explore ruins or fetch artifacts that the dragon cannot. Mercury dragons live around 3000 years, but there are some notably long-lived individuals. Mercury dragons are excellent close-quarters fighters. A mercury dragon's breath renders it invisible to those affected. Mercury dragons have no particular treasure preference, but rarely collect matched sets, preferring variety. Usually, a mercury dragon will not consume humanoids, preferring to toy with ones that have earned its ire. Mithril Mithril dragons are native to the Astral Sea, and make lairs in abandoned mines or temples. They have striking white-streaked silvery hides and wings of radiant energy. Mithril dragons only interact with the mortals that they need to complete their goals; they study prophecy and usually work alone. Mithril dragons are immortal barring death by accident or combat. A mithril dragon fights by teleporting amongst enemies; they are just as physically powerful as gold dragons. Their breath weapon is a surge of light that blinds foes. They do not hoard treasure. Mithril dragons require very little food, and usually arrange for gardens to be grown or flocks tended for them to eat. They don't have an issue with eating humanoids if the need arises. Orium Orium dragons are found in ancient ruins that they often try to reconstruct. They have brilliant red-orange hides and a feline body with a long, prehensile tail. An orium dragon categorizes mortals into three categories; servants, thieves, and food. They often work with adventurers for similar reasons that mercury dragons do. An orium can live for around five thousand years. Their breath is a caustic mist that coalesces into a wisp that attacks the dragon's foes. Oriums usually arrange for servants to bring them food, though would-be treasure hunters make excellent snacks as well. Silver Silver dragons prefer high lairs with wide open views. They are among the larger species of dragon with powerful builds. Silver dragons are honorable and protective, often safeguarding communities of mortals. They value their honor more than life, and can be hard to negotiate with. Silvers can live up to nine thousand years. Silver dragons are unmatched in close combat but are poor fliers; their wings are more suited to usage as weapons. They breathe frost at their foes. Even evil silver dragons do not eat intelligent life, considering this action to be barbaric, and evil silvers still refrain from wanton violence. Steel Steel dragons live among humanoids, and establish lives in their societies. They will, however, have a backup lair in difficult-to-reach ruins or caves. Steel dragons have relatively small heads and slender builds. They freely associate with mortals, and every single steel dragon can change shape. They live for around five thousand years. Steels are not particularly strong in direct combat, but are excellent teammates and work well with other creatures. Their breath is a blast of pure force. Steel dragons do not eat humanoids. Chromatic Dragons Black Black dragons prefer swamps and other areas. They have a slender, yet muscular, frame in relation to other dragons. Black dragons delight in setting traps and ambushes, and are known for their cruelty. They are excellent swimmers and prefer to fight in water or air. The average black dragon lives to be 2.2 thousand years old. Black dragons breathe an acidic mist that reduces the effectiveness of armor and burns the flesh. They prefer coins as treasure, and hate salt water. They dine preferentially on sentient creatures. Blue Blue dragons live in mountainous, stormy regions and coastlines. They have somewhat reflective scales. Blue dragons are notably proud, but are more willing to negotiate than most dragons given sufficient respect. A blue dragon is nearly unmatched in aerial maneuverability and fights over long periods of time, harrying prey from above; however, they have been known to hide by digging a short distance underground in soft soil. A blue dragon can expect to live 2.2 thousand years. Their breath weapon is a blast of lightning. They prefer to hoard jewelry, gemstones, and works of art, and have been known to leave unattractive treasure behind. A blue dragon gives little thought to the intelligence of its dinner. Brown Brown dragons are native to deserts. They have wings that stretch head to tail, giving them a unique appearance. Brown dragons are rather lazy and risk-averse, and try to accomplish tasks with the least amount of effort. A brown dragon is an excellent tunneler, and its "wings" are more suited to this task than flight. Browns, if forced into combat, they will use this unique maneuverability. Browns live for around 1800 years. They can blast enemies with scouring sand; this ability has a notably large area of effect. A brown dragon treasures food and will take unusual risks to eat something it has never tasted; permanent treasure tends toward utensils and other food-related items. Because of this, they are not particularly picky. Gray Gray dragons prefer rocky areas, but are not choosy when it comes to lairs. They have a large number of detachable spines that can be flung at foes. Gray dragons are consummate hunters, and will occasionally hunt down targets when requested simply for the joy of the chase; however, they are rather cowardly and shy away from truly fair fights. Grays prefer flight during combat but are proficient in melee. Grays can expect to live for around 1700 years, though their lifespan varies widely. Gray dragons breathe an acid that can petrify the victim. They have no real preference for treasure and do not hoard as much as most dragons, though they still protect their hoards. They rarely eat non-sentient creatures; they prefer intelligent, somewhat dangerous prey. Green Green dragons live in forests and jungles. Greens have a distinctive hide that allows them to blend with their surroundings. Greens are manipulative and deceitful, interfering with humanoid affairs as much as they can. They are excellent at fighting in their forest homes and are equally dangerous airborne or grounded. Greens tend to live for about two thousand years. The breath of a green dragon is poisonous, and can dominate the mind of its victims if the wyrm is mature. They prefer treasure that took a lot of work to create, but they keep currency for bribes. They prefer to dine on sentient creatures but usually eat woodland creatures such as deer and bears. Purple Purple dragons live deep underground and can be sensitive to sunlight. They have narrow, graceful bodies that allow them to maneuver in cramped spaces and possess unparalleled hearing. They enjoy manipulation and domination, but have a love for exploration that far surpasses this, and will sometimes work with humanoids to explore areas it is physically incapable of entering. Purple dragons are deadly in underground caverns but have limited capabilities in flight. The average purple dragon's life lasts 2500 years, but can last far longer. A purple dragon's breath weapon dazes a target and gives the dragon partial control over it, but inflicts little direct damage. They have a unique ability to phase short distances, and can use this to fling targets through walls. Their treasure consists of mostly navigational tools. They eat prey caught in underground seas and rivers, though anything will do in a pinch. *Alternatively, purple dragons breathe blades of energy that have a similar effect. Red Red dragons live at the highest altitudes they can reach, and they prefer heat, though the former is much more important. A red dragon is larger than any other chromatic dragon, and indeed is one of the largest dragon varieties overall, with especially large wings. They are cunning, but arrogant beyond reason and are prone to violent rage; negotiation is possible only if the dragon's massive ego is appeased. They fight equally well airborne or grounded, but prefer the physicality of melee combat. Red dragons live roughly 2.3 thousand years. Their breath weapon is a withering blast of flame. Greed overpowers any preference for a particular sort of treasure. They will eat anything living, and would rather starve than eat plants or inorganic matter. White White dragons live in glacial regions. A white dragon is one of the smallest dragon varieties, and it has several adaptations to living in icy regions, with large limbs and widely spaced toes. A white dragon cares little for negotiation; they are somewhat animalistic by nature, simply preferring to stay well-fed. They have a slight preference for land-bound combat, as they tend to have an advantage from icy terrain. They live for about 1.8 thousand years. Their breath weapon is an icy blast that they use to freeze prey solid. White dragons love light-colored or reflective treasure such as diamonds. They have only one dietary preference: meat, preferably frozen solid or at least frostbitten. Other types of dragon (most are not true dragons) Planar Abyssal -Frostforged wyrm A white dragon captured by demons and controlled with a thick coating of armor plating and cruel spikes driven into its body. Always attended by the controlling demons. -Deathmask dragon A dragon in a loose sense, a deathmask loosely resembles a purple dragon. It is composed of devoured souls and scours enemies with maddening blasts of pure death. Astral -Battle dragon Resembling a hybrid of red and gold dragon, these dragons often serve warlike deities. They are excellent leaders and strategists, and breathe a blast of searing light. -Pact dragon Resulting from an ancient deal between the githyanki and Tiamat, these descendants of red dragons carry githyanki knights into battle. Elemental -Blazewyrm A dragon that is composed entirely of fire, having a limbless body. They value burning things more than their own lives. -Dragon eel These dragons are attuned to air and water. They lack legs and possess fins instead. Dragon eels have a taste for humanoids and are known to swallow prey whole. -Tempest dragon Composed of glowing water, these storm elementals have a malleable form and harness the power of lightning. -Pyroclastic dragon Superficially resembling red dragons, these beings are composed of molten rock with a solid exterior. They vent poisonous gases and swim through magma. Fey -Faerie dragons These tiny dragons prefer to avoid combat and are said to be magical echoes of true dragons. They breathe bursts of light and are capable of teleporting short distances. -Mirage dragons Slightly larger than faerie dragons, these creatures are reclusive and avoid combat. They grow a mane of feathers and can manipulate the mind with their breath. -Wretch dragon Appearing to be a putrid, fat-covered purple dragon, these dangerous creatures can spew toxic filth at foes. Shadow -Blight dragon Somewhat resembling brown dragons, these creatures cause decay with their mere presence. Their breath is a cloud of blinding dust, and they behave much as dragons in the mortal world do. -Shadow dragon Dark reflections of black dragons, they act similarly, but manipulate pure shadow to achieve their goals. Undead Dracoliches -Bone mongrel A conglomerate of dead dragons, these abominations despise their own life and possess enough intelligence to understand their own nature. -Stoneborn Composed of fossilized bone, these dragons sometimes arise spontaneously from buried dragon remains. They breathe stone splinters. -Icewrought Created from a blizzard, icewrought dracoliches often arise from dragons seeking to extend their own lives. Their breath can freeze foes in place. -Dreambreath These strange creatures put foes to sleep using their breath and stalk both reality and the world of dreams. Wraiths -Wyrmwisp Much like human wraiths, these are remnants of the departed souls of dragons. This variety is small and fairly weak. -Soulgrinder A manifestation of pure death, a soulgrinder's breath stops one from healing and inflicts necrotic damage. Zombie -Winged putrescence This decaying dragon's wings are mostly intact; the rest of the body is slimy with rot. Incapable of thought, these creatures attack anything on sight if not controlled by a master. -Rotclaw A rotclaw is a mindless beast much like most undead dragons. Its body looks as if it might fall apart at any moment. They will singlemindedly attack a target and devour it, ignoring anything else. -Deathless hunger A bloated body on skinny legs, a deathless hunger has a massive maw and attempts to swallow prey whole with it. -Rancid tide This monstrosity oozes with filth and sprays it at its enemies. Skeletal -Razortalon These roughly horse-sized skeletons have large fangs and claws, and use these to rend enemies. -Bonespitter Having undersized natural weapons, these undead spit out shards of bone to defeat their enemies. -Siegewyrm These massive beasts are composed of the bones of powerful dragons. Their massive, jagged frames harm anyone who gets too close. Vampire -Thief of life This draconic vampire is nearly colorless and uses gaze and breath attacks to seize life directly from its prey. -Bloodwind Appearing to be a diseased variety of chromatic or metallic dragon, a bloodwind's breath weakens foes and can carry the beast forward. Hollow Hollow dragons are the shells of once-living dragons filled with those dragons' essence. Good dragons choose this over necromancy to prolong their lives. Other dragonlike creatures -Abishai Devil-like servants of Tiamat, there are several varieties that represent different aspects of Tiamat and chromatic dragons in general. -Dragonborn A proud warrior race, these dragonesque humanoids possess great fortitude and humanoid-sized breath weapons. -Dragonspawn These foul creatures were created by magically corrupting dragon eggs. They share many traits with the dragons they were created from, but are the same size as a humanoid. -Drake Drakes come in several varieties, but most are the size of a large dog. They are intelligent and ferocious, but not to the extent of true dragons. Most are incapable of flight, lacking wings. -Kobold Small, devious lizardfolk, kobolds are excellent trapmakers and often worship dragons. -Living breath A wisp created from dragonbreath through a draconic ritual. They have vaguely draconic forms and often guard the hoards of older dragons. -Squamous thing A creature that appears to be a dragon twisted and warped by the Far Realm's influence. They continually release loud roars and shrieks that terrify prey. -Couatl Appearing to be a serpentine, legless dragon, they share many traits with metallic dragons and almost always serve good causes. -Drakkensteed Thought to be a kind of drake, drakkensteeds resemble horse-sized dragons with elongated necks and snouts. They can be trained as mounts and infused with draconic essence. They have breath weapons and are good hunters. Playable races: All metallic dragons except for Mithril (case-by-case basis only) All chromatic dragons Dracoliches with full sentience Hollow dragons Most humanoid races, including dragonborn Mirage Faerie Shadow Pact Battle Gemstone dragons (ask Hukuna) To explain why some things aren't playable: I'll do this one at a time. Mithril dragons are too foreign and too DnD specific, and their future sight just plain doesn't work in a roleplay like this. They're really neat, but they are barely dragons when it comes to behavior. In the end, they are Sues. Most undead dragons are not sentient and therefore would make no sense as player characters. (Some are downright disturbing as well.) Vampiric dragons are in the same boat as mithrils, though they are less "undraconic." They don't make any sense, either. Many of the planar dragons aren't true dragons, and are controlled by outside forces or animal instinct. They lack the flexibility of other varieties, and again are too specific to DnD. Most entries under the dragonlike creatures heading are nonsentient, though they would make good NPCs. Coatls are flat characters by nature, and dragonspawn are sentient but controlled by the external force that created them. At long last: the character template. I'm going to do something that some dungeon masters like to do here: I'm getting backstories before I realize the world. This ensures that everyone gets a say through their backstory. In this case, it makes even more sense, because even the shortest-lived dragons are around for over a thousand years. A human generation passes in around thirty. So, here goes Name: Should be suitably draconic, though a younger dragon might not have a name as they have no need for them. Eventually, deeds or companions will cause them to take one. Species: This is important. If you're a hybrid, list your primary variety, mostly determined by your breath. (Fire breath and chromatic? You're a red dragon. Frost and metallic? Silver or possibly cobalt.) Keep in mind that hybrids (such as Ka'el) may appear to be one variety, but are another in truth. (Ka'el has black scales, but breathes frost, so he is a white dragon.) Age: This is the primary factor in one's raw power. Ancient dragons will be closely examined, being obscenely strong, but feel free to play a twilight dragon. DnD ages are Wyrmling, Young, Adult, Elder, Ancient, then some enter twilight years before dying of age. Ancestry: Dragons pass down imprints of knowledge to their offspring, and your lineage would affect your appearance and possibly breath weapons. This doesn't need detail, just describe anything notable about your character's lineage. Appearance: This is pretty flexible. Species tend toward specific body types, but there is a lot of variation among individuals. Please spend a good amount of time here, describing features like horns, spines, wings, etc. If you want a wyvernlike body (front limbs are both legs and wings, like in Skyrim), specify that here. Wyverns make better fliers but might not do as well on the ground. Backstory: In a word, exhaustive. This will be a lot shorter if you begin as a younger dragon, and it may not exist at all as a wyrmling. Please feel free to invent locations and cultures. There are only two constants: there is a clan of people that ride dragons, and factions dedicated to dragonslaying. People wanting to be part of the dragon rider clan should coordinate with myself and others who want to do so. If you want to play a humanoid, appearance doesn't need to be exhaustive, and forget about ancestry; that goes in your backstory instead, which doesn't need to be huge. Pantheon The Creator, The Original One, The First Wyrm, The Being of Potential In the beginning, the First Wyrm arose from nothingness. The Original One, in its infinite wisdom and knowledge, first created the planes. The vessel of the Material Plane, created to hold his further works. The Aether to fill it with light and energy, and the Umber to temper and control it, stopping the Material Plane from burning. The Creator gazed upon its vessel, and thought it incomplete. The energy and dark held infinite potential, but light and shadow are not tangible or lasting. With a mighty roar, the Original One send waves across the vessel, solidifying light and shadow into matter. Aethereal light coalesced into the stars, and Umbral shadow created caverns and other, darker things best left to the imagination. The two combined to create what we can see and feel today; the earth, the sea, and everything that living beings can touch. Ripples from the echoing of the First Wyrm’s Roar created hills and mountains, plains and rivers, seas and islands. The Creator was not yet finished, though. Its vessel was vibrant and filled to the brim, but it remained potential. Knowing that this potential could not be realized by one single being, the Creator placed shards of its power into its next creations. First came the twins Earth and Sky, to watch over what would fill the world. Next came Nature and Life, to fill the earth with animals and men. Order and Knowledge came after, to create structure in the world. Then came Power and Retribution, to give men the ability to realize the world’s potential and the capacity for action toward one another. Finally, Good and Evil took the last pieces of the Original One’s soul, to guide men in their lives. With this, the Being of Potential was that no more; the empty shell collapsed into near nothingness, and then was scattered across the new universe. The shreds of his being gained their own consciousness, and became the dragons. Good and Evil Very little is known about these gods. They have no draconic form and rarely grant boons to their followers because they are largely incapable of affecting the world directly. However, some still seek guidance from them. Retribution Retribution is the god of justice and revenge. Those seeking to right perceived wrongs through punishment seek his guidance, whether they be righteous paladins or less savory characters. He often appears as a silver dragon with the characteristic spikes of a gray. Power Power’s name should tell you all you need to know. He assists anyone who desires to accrue a large amount of power and usually appears as a red-golden dragon. Life Life controls all aspects of her name, including death and the unnatural prolonging of life, whether it be through Aethereal or Umbral energy. Many mages worship her, as well as those seeking a long life through any means. Life takes on the most forms out of all of the gods, and has been seen as a mercury, orium, steel, and even whites and undead dragons. Order Order is the ruler of civilization, from the most just republic to the cruelest tyranny. Due to his nature, he is essentially incapable of lying or oath-breaking; he is often drawn into conflict because of this. Rulers and judges revere him and ask for his wisdom. Order manifests as a cobalt or green dragon. Nature Nature is wild and uncontrollable, reigning over the immensely powerful natural forces that throw up mountains and grind them to dust. She despises restrictions and values freedom above all else. Nature only really joins conflicts if she is threatened in a significant way; destruction is part of the natural order. She is a favorite of hunters, druids, and others that spend much of their time in the natural world. Nature tends to appear as a brown dragon, though she has been spotted in the form of an iron. Knowledge Knowledge is a complex god with simple motivations. His name is the entirety of his goals. Knowledge prefers isolation from conflict, but like his brother Power, will enter it for personal gain. Knowledge is worshipped by those seeking, well, knowledge, and doles it out to faithful servants. His usual form is a mithral dragon, though he occasionally manifests as a black. Earth Earth, the oldest of the gods, is likely the most patient. Earth takes little interest in the affairs of the other gods; she spends her time shaping the land and those who live upon it, raising mountains and grinding them to dust as she sees fit. When roused, however, her fury is relentless and long, only cooling when the offender has been annihilated or she is utterly incapable of doing so. She is worshipped by those that desire things they do to last, whether they be strong families or wicked curses. Earth has no particular goals other than protecting her domain from destruction. Earth often manifests as a purple dragon with the thick hide of an adamantine dragon. Sky Earth’s twin is in many ways her polar opposite. She is impatient where Earth is placid, impulsive where Earth is thoughtful, and absentminded where Earth is focused. She directs the wind to her pleasing, speeding voyages or sending them to their destruction. Due to her flighty nature, she is unreliable but will often get involved in conflicts of all varieties. Sky rarely holds grudges and does not truly comprehend why people hold them. However, she is unchanging in her eternal shifting. She aligns with Nature, and holds little love for Order. She will participate in the war between Good and Evil, but more for her own entertainment than any personal gain. She is worshipped by those who desire excitement and variety in their lives, and those wishing to avoid permanent attachments. Sky usually appears as a blue or copper dragon. (sorry about the formatting, it pasted oddly from google drive) Regions The Dragon's Maw A vast region of badlands that eventually fade into a desert, this rain-starved area is named for the jagged mountain range separating it from the southern coast. The area acts as a barrier to trade; the only ways to the fertile southern regions are a trek around the feet of the mountains and through the desert, a few isolated and hazardous mountain passes, or sailing through the storm-wracked western waters. The dragon riders aren't the only clan that lives here; warrior tribes at constant war over the sparse water in the region are renowned for their prowess with the spear. (To be continued.) Raindrop Valkyrie
I am going to post this here quickly, I got Gemstone Dragons covered, if you want to know more about them just ask me, a PM would be best or ask in the other thread, for Murdoc's Sake I want avoid any questions being asked here to avoid cluttering this thread. (But Hukuna you are doing that right now. ) On the other hand, since for now I am assuming I am assisting you in this RP, do you wish for me to submit my main character here, or should I send it directly to you? Chevaleresse
This is where my character's going to be. Name: Strunsaviik Species: Adamantine Age: An old adult, bordering on elder, around two thousand years old. Ancestry: His father was a steel dragon, and he has blue and silver farther back in his bloodline. Appearance: Stocky build overall. He has a large, heavy head, particularly his jaws, which show evidence of prior melees. He lacks horns, like all adamantine dragons, but Strunsaviik has prominent mane-scales that give him the appearance of having horns. These move about much like a cat's ears, indicating his mood. Otherwise, his overlapping scales are large and slide over one another like well-oiled metal. This creates a distinctive metal-on-metal sound as he moves; not a grating, screeching sound, but the sound a sword makes when returned to a metal scabbard. His silver ancestry shows in his wings; he isn't a strong flier, but he uses them much as a humanoid warrior would use shields, bashing and buffeting foes while deflecting attacks. The wings have overlapping scales over the bones; this is very bad for flight, but grants them a great deal of power. Strunsaviik's tail is long in comparison with his solid build. Spines run down the length of his spine and the tail; they lay flat when he is calm, but he can raise them at will. His claws are not long, but are strong and sharp. He has two rows of lighter, almost mirrorlike scales parallel with his spine that contrast with the metallic gray-black that covers most of his body. His steel parent passed down shapechanging abilities, and his two favorite forms (other than his own) are a gruff dwarf named Strun and an elfmaid called Savi. Both have jet black hair. Backstory: Strunsaviik hatched in the care of a clan of dragon riders living in the southern mountains; an arid, rocky area with tough game and tougher peoples. His mother was rather reclusive, and stumbled across the clan by accident while she was searching for a safer lair. His father had lived among the clan for a time, finding them fascinating. The pair entrusted a single clutch of eggs to the mountain clan, as Strunsaviik's father knew them well. Knowledgeable as the clan was, it ensured the wyrmlings would accrue plenty of knowledge and power from both the mortal races and the few dragons that still lived among them. He was paired with a child at birth, and the two were raised together. Isolation kept them away from most people that might harm them, and the dragon grew to his young adulthood without facing any real threats. This peace was soon to end. Strunsaviik and his rider, the latter of which whose name has been lost to time, became questing knights, seeking out trouble and treasure. They became quite famous as a duo, and Strunsaviik was happy for the most part, though serving a mortal chafed at his pride on more than one occasion. They attracted the attention of another somewhat mysterious group of people; a guild that ostensibly formed errant knights into organized units, allowing them to pursue more dangerous foes. Invited to meet and possibly join them. When they arrived at the guildhall - an imposing fortress in the largest city on the continent - the guild asked Strun, the dragon's dwarven alias, to reveal his true nature. He gladly did so, not suspecting what was to happen next. The warrior in front of him drew a weapon made of dragon bone and told the archers hidden about the hall to open fire. Although both of them fought bravely, his rider was slain, and his wings were nearly shredded in his escape. The warrior - who he later discovered was the guildmaster - also bit deep into Strunsaviik's face, leaving deep scars that are still hinted at on his muzzle. He fled the city in his true form, and the guild's story was that the dragon had infiltrated them and was planning to raze the city. As most people mistake adamantine dragons for blacks, they weren't questioned. As many adamantine dragons do, Strunsaviik sought out a lair underground, eventually settling in a cave underneath the mountains that protected the dragon riders, though he did not try to find another rider. Indeed, he was too grief-stricken and mistrustful of humanoids to return at all. He created a large dominion for himself in the area, driving out a local drow population. Here, he acts as a sort of gatekeeper; many caves lie beyond his territory, but he frequently accosts any travelers brave enough to cross his lands. Many tell tales of the fearsome dragon guardian that gave them safe passage; others are not heard from again.
Raindrop Valkyrie
Name: Phobos Species: Emerald Dragon Age: Close to Elder Age. Ancestry: Almost all other Emerald Dragons, but has a tinge of Amethyst, probably a Grandparent. Appearance: Long Slender build, Has a sort of vulture like appearance with a long gaunt face. Wings are light and well attuned for flying. He has long slender horns. Typical Dragon Body with 4 legs and Bat-like wings. Has Brilliant Emerald Green Scales, that luminescence slightly in bright light. He has a light Lavender spot above his eyes right in his brows. Due to his seemingly small frame he is typically underestimated by others, assuming he is weaker or a younger dragon. He however is adept with weaving magic and planning traps etc. He has Long Frightening Talons. Backstory: Aye, a bloody tale is that of the Dragon Phobos. Not much is known of his early whelp life, other than his father and Mother were both Emerald's like he, he had a sister in his litter as well. Years passed, Phobos a new Juvenile preparing to leave the nest as he crawled towards young adulthood. However it was not to be that peaceful. Men had found their lair. They wore many types of armour, but bore a rather significant gold Pin on their traveling clocks. The Ornate Symbol of a Gold Lance being driven into the Skull of a Dragon. Some of them also had it emblazoned on their Shields and Armour as well. There were many of them, so many they overwhelmed Phobos's Father before the Alarm spells he had set on the cave entrance could even go off. His Mother Held off the men while He and his sister escaped. Phobos was never the same, he became paranoid, sometimes almost attacking his sister when she entered the cave they lived into together. She saw as he fell further into his paranoia, though there wasn't much she could do about it. There was came a time he even started to fear Gold, thinking if it was in the cave it would be easier for the Golden Ones (as he called them) to find them again. He didn't have much interest in treasure like his sister did after that, and would always throw the gold in a nearby river. It Became Known as the Golden River as a nearby town always would find gold washing up on the shore. They had now reached adulthood, but Phobos's sister didn't want to leave him to create her own nest, she felt like she was the only thing keeping him sane at this point. He obsessed over Protecting the cave and got lost in his trap making so much so one day he didn't even notice his sister went out to hunt. He would usually accompany her to make sure she was fine. However, the One night he didn't go, was the last night she ever lived. A strange man and another dragon this one Gold in color attacked her. She had never seen a man riding a Dragon before. The Dragon Rider attacked due to thinking she was a Green Dragon, the light being low. Phobos had arrived, however he could't move from the treeline, the Gold Dragon scared him. He ran living his sister too die. He now descended into madness, angry at the world for taking everything from him, He now planned his revenge on the Golden ones, and those who rode Dragons. He spent years fuming in his caves, growing his territory and hunting grounds all the while. He only collected Silver Coins, still dumping any Gold he found in the river, more out of ritual now, then actual fear. He spent 400 years planning, wondering if he could get some less savory races on his side by intimidating them into submission. But he also turned to powerful magic artifacts. He hunted them, listening to local legends and happenstance somehow remaining hidden. He hadn't heard of anything of note yet.
Arkhi
i dont even...You guys know your stuff. I think I'll let this one be for now. Seeing as I don't know jack squat about dragons, I'll be on the sidelines for this. Once the IC thread starts, I'll get a feel for it and see if I think I can manage. If I can understand the basics, then I'll research a bit and see about joining. Good luck.

Flux
Name: Ka'el (May be subject to change. It's reminding me a bit too much of Superman at the moment...) Species: Black Wyvern, Frost-Breath (If Wyverns can have that... Unsure exactly what I should do about ancestry and breath concerning wyverns. Any ideas?) Age: Adult, closer to Elder than Young. Ancestry: (Not exactly sure what to do here... Family of wyverns I guess?) Appearance: Wyvern body, covered in black scales, as dark as night. He has powerful back legs and a wide wingspan. Narrow, but regal face shape, with two black horns facing towards his back, in-line with his head. Two small trails of red scales between his eyes, which are a deep blue with flecks of gold. At the top of his wings are small claws, similar to small hands, the trademark of wyverns. (Perhaps I'll try drawing something... It would be interesting as I haven't really drawn dragons before...) Backstory: Will fill in later... So yeah, some help on the areas in question would be great. I'm planning for him to start as a neutral-ish party, as an enemy of the humans. Though with enough persistance, someone playing a dragon rider may be able to tame him... If they wouldn't mind becoming a wyvern rider. Yash
I'm interested.. but have absolutely no idea about RP's.. so id appreciate if someone could help me out... would like to play as a dragon.. Name: Tydormu Species: Bronze-??? Hybrid (possibly silver), lightening breath. Age: Youngish Adult Ancestry: Unknown father, and a bronze mother who was killed when he was a wyrmling.. Appearance: he is a 7 foot high, a dark bronze shaded dragon with green tipped wings.. he has a regular dragon body with 4 feet and very long leathery wings suggesting a parentage from either a gold or silver dragon.. his body is stocky and muscular flecked with scratch marks and scars all around.. one of the wings has a scar on it running from the tip towards the tail.. the tail itself has many horns as well as 2 horns on its head instead of the regular 3.. he has a light green almost white iris which gives the perception that he is blind.. this however is not the case and allows him to trick and fool opponents.. He has sharp claws that are metallic in colour similiar to that of platinum.. his feet are webbed and allow him to swim really fast.. Backstory: Not much of his past is known as his father is unknown. His mother raised him all by herself and protected him for the first few years of his life. They lived in a small coastal cave near a shipping route and port town. While not much of his early years are known as he was over protected by his mother, possibly to compensate for his fathers absence, he does remember stories about his mothers quests in and around their lair. Her death involves murder and it is unknown by whom. This resulted in Tydormu having to care for himself from an early age. It also corrupted his sense of honour as his mother could not impart her ideals to him. Thus Tydormu is an atypical bronze dragon living as a tyrannical loner abandoning the justice that they usually idealize. He is called Nautilus the Sword of the Sea by sailors as he swims fast and prefers attacking mercantile vessels from underneath. His reign of terror lasted for a few hundred years. The older he grew the more violent and ill-tempered. He would demand tribute from the humanoids in his territory in ever increasing amounts. Finally it came to a point that the townspeople near his coastal home were on the verge of ruin. This and a single family whose child had been killed by him due to their inability to pay tribute caused a need for them to abandon fear and fight back. Having underestimated his subjects he became complacent in protecting his lair. This resulted in the villagers sneaking in and attacking him when he least expected it. During this struggle he overheard a shout by a dying man to leave like his father and let them live in peace. In this fight he severely injures his wing and needs to flee. His curiosity ignited by the comment, Tydormu decides to find his father. However his journey seems to be ending short as the injury to his wing doesn't allow him to fly very far. After a day of flying he succumbs to exhaustion and pain and crashes in the middle of a vast and empty plain. Upon waking he sees an old man tending to his wounds. Having been saved by him, he befriends the hermit. He explains the purpose of his journey to the hermit, who agrees to help him. Before that he asks Tydormu to regain his strength. During this time both of them form a bond. His sense of duty starts to return to him and he starts treating the hermit with respect. He decides to protect the old man at all costs while learning more about dragons and the world from the wise man. Soon the time for them to leave comes. DarkLight
Please feel free to let me know if anything looks funny~ Name: Freyja Species: Faerie/Mirage hybrid. Breathes in bursts of light. Age: Just turned Young. Ancestry: Her mother is a purple fairy dragon, while her father is a light-orange Mirage dragon. Appearance: Freyja's body is mostly purple and orange with hints of whites here and there. She also gained bird-like feathers running down her long tail and on her head. Unlike those of her fairy brethren, who usually have butterfly wings, her purple and orange veined wings are more similar to those of elemental dragons. Under direct sunlight, her wings reflect the purples, oranges and some white patterns that she has inherited from her lineage. Otherwise, many usually only see plain purple and orange. She has orange spikes running down from her chin to her belly with a purple, leathery mane down the back of her neck. http://alviaalcedo.deviantart.com/art/Fairy-dragon-282385564 Backstory: Freyja has lived a very comfortable life so far. Since her family lived deep in the woods with other types of fairies, mirage dragons, and forest nymphs, her life has all been about fun and games. True to her faerie side, this little dragon loves playing tricks on others, especially on humans, who always seemed to have some sort of trinket that she would be interested in. While she makes sure that her trickery doesn't get her victims into trouble, Freyja would always try and bring back a souvenir to her cave that she made for herself that is near her parents' hollow. Most of these mementos happen to be gold, which she loves dearly. As a result, the purple and orange dragon would try and abuse her teleportation powers to steal what she desires. However, as she is still a baby, Freyja has yet to master this power fully. She sometimes gets caught in her stealing and is forced to give her goodies back to their rightful owners. Her breath of light, however, is almost fully developed. EDIT: Backstory is done. I couldn't think of anything else.
