Dban1
Ok it's come across my mind for too long, but it seems I do not have the time to settle down for it. What do you guys think about basing a new Pokemon Fanmade game revolving around gangs, clans and guilds? You start as a child with only your mother, and in the beginning of the game, you get to live the life of a normal kid, where you do simple quests and help around the community (etc Jump Quests, Quizzes) although only for a brief period of time. [5 minute gameplay worth]. Then one night, the player's mother disappears, and on your own, you have to find your mother. However, although the region is reputed to be vibrant and lively, under the depths and backstages of the community lie dangerous gangs, clans and guilds. Gangs: Rowdy groups of people who utilise Pokemon to commit crimes. Lead by a Gang Leader. Clans: An association of a few gangs to agree to territorial peace in the area, and sometimes borrow aid from one another. Lead by a Clan Chief. Guilds: A powerful and large faction consisting of all the clans in the area, overseen by high-ranking Pokemon Trainers and lead ultimately by the Guild Master. There are 4 Guilds that control the 4 separate districts in the region. Along the way, Mercenaries will come after the player, assuming the role of "Rival". Although the number of mercenaries increase every few "heads" the player acquires. The player stumbles upon the death of his mother caused by a certain Guild Master, and is helpless at the time. After a few years timeskip, the player is a teenager and has decided that it was time for revenge, and delves straight into the under dealings of the region. The player has to battle and achieve and earn reputation as he acquires Clan Chiefs' heads.(yes, heads replaces badges). Finally, after achieving a set amount of heads, the player decides to challenge the 4 Guild Masters, which are basically the elite 4, but does so individually. (Each has it's own "Arc"). However, upon defeating the Big 4, the player realises that The One who murdered his mother wasn't amongst them. In a final search, the player finds the "Mastermind" which is the placeholder for Pokemon Champion and executes due revenge.
Dban1
Speaking of which, the main highlight of this game is that the Player can recruit and strengthen his own "Gang" by doing side quests along the way. Each quest awards "Cards / Phone Numbers" that when used, allows the player to be accompanied by a fellow gang member for 300 Steps, who of course, helps in battles. Yash
its a nice concept.. but i guess it would require more than just going after the guild masters.. if you can do better with the part about making your own gang then it would be interesting.. and not just follow for 300 steps.. actually have a proper gang who can do missions for you and earn money.. further you can have a common pokemon for the gang as its mascot.. and you can have happiness values for gang members also.. and unhappy members will leave the gang... stuff like that.. Yeah, but the programming and coding stuff will take its toll. I guess it's a matter of how devoted one is
Sutoratosu
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! this right here.... this is what pokemon needs, fanmade or official, it just does (Let's face, it's gonna be fanmade because Gamefreak and their lazy arses when it comes to trying to be different and adventurous with pokemon) If someone takes on this project.... And actually makes this game... (And makes it well) I will straight up Glomp them. And I don't usually allow myself to involve in such behavior... so this is serious for me. now there is but one question: Who's gonna take this undertaking upon themselves? I was considering undertaking it, but I may be too busy. The thing I'm most afraid of, though, is that no one cares about it after me spending tons of time on it. But Unfortunately, I have no skills when it comes to building games like this... Damn.... anyone (Who has the sufficient skill sets, Vision, and time) out there willing to try? Cepheus
Sounds very interesting... something like an "Assassins Creed + GTA San Andreas + Pokemon"-hybrid But I'd say collecting 'heads' is a bit too dark... I'd say make Emblems. (which would also work around possible innapropriate wording...) I'll use the term Emblem for now... There needs to be determined who will give you this Emblems, because as you stated thoses rivals/mercenaries will increase with every few Emblems you collect. If only the Guild-Leaders would give you, you will only have 4. If you get those Emblems from a Clan... you need to determine how many clans a Guild has. If both, Clan and Guild leaders gives you an Emblem (I'd say gangs are the Grunts of the Clans and Guilds...), I'd suggest 3 clans per Guild that would make 4 Emblems per Guild and result in 16 Emblems in total. Now my idea for Gangs/Clans/Guilds: I see Gangs like military Squads consisting of maybe 5 Trainer (4 Grunts + 1 Gang-Leader) those Gangs belong to one Clan 3 Clans are a Guild lead by those Guildmasters. like Squad -> Battalion -> Army Since each Guild has control over one district/area, a district/area can be huge. The hole area belongs to the guild. this area is split up in 4 smaller areas: 3 for the clans + 1 guild HQ the 3 smaller areas are lead by the clans, and need to be liberated to gain access to the clan-hideout (a mini-base) Key-positions/buildings are guarded by the gangs. like Pokecenter and supermarket. To use this you need to defeat the gang-leader. As an example: the Rocket-Guild controls the northeast district. There is a Rocket-Gang in the Pokecenter. You defeat the 4 Rocket-Grunts and Rocket-Gang-Leader James appaers. You defeat Rocket Gang-Leader James and now the Pokecenter is liberated and free for you/your gang to use. Repeat for the Supermarket and defeat Gang-Leader Jessie and gain access to the Clan-Hideout. There you face Gang-Leader James and Jessie again and then Rocket Clan-Chief Atlas. Once defeated you get the Atlas-Clan Emblem and they retreat to Rocket-Guild-HQ. the first area is liberated and under your control. That hideout now belongs to you and your Gang/Guild and you can assign your members missions here or stuff like that. Repeat for the other two areas and gain Access to Rocket-Guild HQ... battle thorugh the Gang Leaders, Clan-Leaders again and face Rocket-Guild-Leader Giovanni. My explanation was pretty hazy, but with your sharp analytics and superb laying out, if the game were to really come to fruition, your ideas will definitely have helped! However, I'm not sure if adding in the authorities (police, etc) would be a good idea. What are your views on this? This would probably make the game more inclusive of the Region's own defenses, such as to emphasise a sense of why the dealings are dealt "underhand". Yash
I like the way you have structured it.. but i feel it makes it like any other pokemon game.. instead of just you defeating the other clans maybe you could have mini fights with your gang members fighting the opposing gangs?? so it would be like when you recruit members then they have any one pokemon and after that you can buy more pokemon and train the pokemon of gang members using money.. though it would mean you cannot set the moves etc. but you get to use these pokemon and fight as your gang member in the mini matches.. just to add variety to the gameplay.. i don't think much coding would be required for it either.. the mechanics of it would be similar to using the rented pokemon at that place in the battle frontier.. the additional part would only be the ability to buy and train the pokemon.. but i guess that could come from the reborn script of the guy in 7th street and training could come directly from a few modifications to the day care script.. just a thought.. it would seem more realistic.. Arkhi
Yeah, about collecting heads...I'd advise against that. Would our character command a Honedge to slice a Clan Leader's head off, then carry it in his backpack as a "Key Item"? That's a bit absolutely frightening.Otherwise, it's a good concept. A bit more dark, but I think the story could use more twist and unexpected turns. For example, how about having a father instead of a mother? Something to make this game stand out. The gang storyline is great, don't get me wrong. I'm being hard on the concept of this because this would be a huge undertaking and if you're going to make a game, it had better stand out to make the work worth it.Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best of luck with it. Deleted User
That's also OK if you're going for that weird Snakewood feel, but yeah the head thing is kinda much.
Sutoratosu
yeah... use Heads and the Protagonist starts to look a bit like a psychopath/ tyrant... The Emblem System that Cepheus outlined earlier would be more appropriate if you want to keep it feeling realistic and not bordering into some of the concepts from Pokemon Snakewood.
