PKMN Mystery Dungeon is it worth it?

Hey guys I know I haven't been posting around here as much however something interesting came to my attention. I've heard that a lot of people like the pokemon mystery dungeon series and are trying to convince Nintendo to put out another one.

Now I haven't played any of those games but I've looked at part of a walkthrough of just Gates to Infinity and noticed some nice bits about the series. I was thinking of working on a small fan made video based on what the fans want like any features that should be added or removed from a future title.

1)Do we really need a new PKMN Mystery Dungeon?

2)If the answer is yes then I must have some sort of input for example what did you guys like and hate about the games changes through the series? What worked and what didn't if that makes more sense.

3)Is it a good or bad idea to make a fan made video(supported by fans) for a new PKMN Mystery Dungeon series?

If we can get an organized list then all I have to focus on is making the video which will feature SOME 3d animated pokemon. 3d models seriously do take time to build. I don't know how long it'll take for me to make it but I'm willing to try my hardest if everyone's willing to help with getting the list together. Oh and please feel free to point me to a walkthrough or so of any favorite mystery dungeon games you guys have. That would help a little

If this thread doesn't get much buzz going then I won't go through the trouble since 1) this is will be my first fan video made with 3d software and some 2d software and 2) I'd be soloing as of now. I'm no pro at this so all of my practice would be put to the test. If this does go well then I guess I could upload images of my progress here maybe? I guess I'll wait at least a week to give everyone time.

Please discuss.

I myself think that the Mystery Dungeon games were worse after Explorers of Sky. So I don't really think another game is going to help the franchise. I did however enjoy these games and are by far one of my favorite spinoffs. And don't even get me started on the damn feels.

Mystery Dungeon is difficult as long as you don't grind. I'd love to see a new Mystery Dungeon, but a remake of an old one, not something like Gates to Infinity.

And Mudkip has to be in it. As a starter.

In my opinion, the storyline of the first version (Red/Blue Rescue Team) was the best. It was a pity that it ended that there wasn't a real story anymore after the main storyline, but mostly some sidequests that gave you the chance to get various legendaries. The difficulty level was freaking insane.

The second installment (Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky) had a good story. I wasn't full of it, but it wasn't bad. The treasure boxes and the outlaws were nice adds. I can't help to think how great Red/Blue Rescue Team would have been with outlaws... But oh well. Spinda's Cafe in Sky was okay, but nothing more. The recruiting system got a lot better. The challenges of legendary Pokemon were awesome. And then the bottles that washed up with their occasional hidden room mission, not to mention the so-called legendary items, like Golden Apple, Secret Slab etc, I loved it all. If I'm honest, I liked Explorers of Sky the most.

And the third...Jesus goddamn Christ, what did Mystery Dungeon ever do to you to deserve this, Gamefreak? Why? Good story, good sprites. And that WAS IT. No afterstory AT ALL. Only, idk, like 200 or even less Pokemon to meet, while the other two installments had all Pokemon in them. (that excludes Arceus in Time/Darkness/Sky) But this was just...oh god it was just bad. I never buyed it, and I'm happy about that after watching a YouTube walkthrough. The feels were horrible. Not like 'Oh I'm gonna cry' horrible, but like 'What the fuck did I just witness' horrible.

In my opinion, Gamefreak: take an alike storyline like the one from the first installment, not completely the same, but one that has alike elements, the mechanics of the second installment, and the design and sprites of the third.

Gee it's not looking too good. Sounds like you guys might have lost faith in Gamefreak. So far there are two things I see that are missing:

1) more difficulty

2) lack of an emotional story

I just want to get this right so there was more to the story for the second installment after the main story was over?

I'll definitely keep your points in mind and I'll have to look into the first and second installments a little. Especially, since Pineapple mentioned some add on's like treasure boxes, outlaws, an improved recruiting system, and bottles that washed up with there occasional hidden missions. I've still got time to wait for more posts.

The thing with the 2nd set of games for me was the massive amount of replayablility, it was enough content to rival the main games. The failing in these games was that after the story was over, there was very little aim or motivationto it, which led me personally to keep resetting the game and trying different pokes.

Also taking on moltres with bulbasaur and charmander... gives me nightmares

Don't get me wrong, the difficulty was good enough in the second installment. In the first, however, it was over the top in certain dungeons. And yeah, the afterstory was the best in the second installment imo.

Fuck yeah. Explorers of sky has one of the best story lines I games I've ever played it has feels and funnies it's just a great story. The after game in explorers of sky is amazing too, there's so much you can do once you've completed the main story. Explorers of sky is one of my favorite games if your going to get a dungeon get that one because time and space are just that but less, I haven't played the old ones and they fucked up the new ones with the limited character choices and it just feels wired in 3d. Keep in my that my opinion and I wrote this without reading the other comments cuz I got excited when I saw Mystery Dungeon.

Answering the actual question posed I think we should have one but they should focus more on what they did in sky, the story and elements. And they should focus less on graphics personally it being sprites then seeing these beautiful sprite drawings was great I don't think 3D was needed at all. Hopefully they go back to there roots and make a new one that's good, cuz it would print fucking money....,. I really like explorers of sky if you can't tell.........

I played red rescue team and explorers of Sky, both were good for all the reasons mentioned, but I prefer the second one.

I also got Charmaner as the main character in both games. You can't imagine how much I abused Smokescreen...

Gates to Infinity gets a biiiiiiiiiiiit too much hate, although for a good reason: its severe lack of content compared to the first two generations. However, that I can forgive, because they were making the jump from 2d to 3d. It must have put a limitation on what they could include in the software. However, now that they've made an ENTIRE GENERATION in 3d, they have no excuse when the next game comes around. (And yes, they WILL make one. There's no point in speculating whether or not they will, only in what it will be like.)

You can't just blame that on the jump to 3D. Sure it might of taken them some time, but they shouldn't of just left it was it was, after building up such a great rep with the previous games. Also, I didn't really like the story that much either, it lacked some of the heart of the first two games, as well as the awesome feeling of exploring that really came through in the second generation. Hydreigon was kind of cool, but it just wasn't enough to fill out what I expect from a MD game.

And your point about future games... I don't know WHEN there will be a future game as they have said absolutely nothing about the MD franchise for a while, and tbh after GoI I've entirely lost interest in the franchise.

Wow I sound so cynic. Well, I guess maybe they could make a good game in the future, and I hope they can restore my trust.

I haven't played Gates to Infinity, but the major downside I can see coming from it is the lack of Pokemon. The starter choices are horribly limited and even the overall amount of Pokemon you can recruit is small. The transition to 3D doesn't make up for that at all, even if what little I've seen of the game is pretty.

But I really enjoyed Red Rescue Team and all of the Explorers ones (Sky being my favourite, if only because of the new dungeons + the Special Episodes), so I'd be all for another installment in the series.

What needs to be done is a similar storyline style to Rescue Team/Explorers + all of the Pokemon, not just a select few, with the graphics that Gates to Infinity is known for.

Oh, and please leave the ability to choose your starter's gender alone. That was a rather silly thing to do away with...

What wit X&Y and ORAS Taking up the 3D, why not stay to sprites and such? It'd be a nice throwback to the previous games and it has been proven time and again that 2D can surpass 3D

I'm glad this thread is getting some attention. As for graphics, Gamefreak would most likely stick to something 3d though I'm not sure if they'd want to stick to the graphics from gates of infinity after seeing Pokemon X and Y come out. They may see 2d sprites as taking a step backwards and ruining the fun for the new generation. A point to take note of:

3) some Pokemon were available rather than all

Don't worry Lost I think I've got a clever idea for putting the choice of gender in the video. It involves being a little creative with the story this time around which gets me excited yet a little scared. A lot of you guys have tender memories with the MD series and I'm unsure if I'd be changing the experience too much. I will not however do this blindly since I have been looking into the older games earlier today. I want to make this video with the fans in mind so I can use all the help I can get especially if it involves key story elements that made the series as great as it was.(video editing, sound editing, compositing, and things of that nature are welcome since I'm still a newb to all of it:send me a PM if you can help)

I'm going to update my post up top because now I'm excited but unsure if I should go along with making the video. I mean I know it doesn't guarantee that anything will been seen and considered by Gamefreak but should I go for it? I'm interested but I want to know if you guys would like to see a video that gives Gamefreak the requests of the fans. I'll continue doing research as I wait for more posts.

Try a video that highlights the best and worst of the games, as well as what we, the fans want, and perhaps throw in some creative ideas towards the end, furthermore I'd recommend playing the games yourself if you haven't already, by emulator if you have too, although it is best on a regular DS

I want to see where this will take me so I'm going to start working on the video. When I make something post worthy I'll put it in the fan section(I think we have one). Any and all kinds of help is appreciated just send me a PM if you're interested.
