lyxmei
Hello, I only downloaded this game yesterday and I absolutely love it so far! My only problem is I've gotten stuck with this battle against zeL in the Obsidia Park. I've looked through some of older forum topics, but I didn't see anything.... (i'm impatient, i won't lie, so i skimmed quickly) Can anybody offer advice on how to tackle this super powered Tangrowth? My current team consists of: Ducklett (lvl20), Bayleaf (lvl23), Pachirisu(lvl21), Glameow (lvl15), Poochyena (lvl16), and Swirlix (lvl17) If it all comes down to a matter of grinding till Ducklett is lvl 25 and relying on aerial ace alone, I think I might cry a little. Rosesong
You need a fire type, I think
Deleted User
Take out either Glameow or Poochyena and add a fire type, also try to grind all pokes to about 22 or so. It's definitely doable, I beat it with a mono grass team.
CoolTrainerGary
You can grab a trubbish from the slums and lay toxic spikes and stall it out. In general, your team is composed of pokemon that are considered weak and you'll face much harder challenges, but that's alright if you're up for it. ShatteredSkys
If i remember correctly Tangrowth has 100 base hp and def, your preferably want to hit from the special side if you can. You could try getting a trubbish or koffing poison it and stall it out with baleef. Btw nasserthemaster you can't toxicspike it as it doesn't swap into the toxic spikes. Rewer
If you don't want to change your team: Grind your team a little bit until they are around level 23~24 (at least parchisu/poochyena/ducklett) Send out Parchisu in turn 1 and use Nuzzle, then sacrifice Parchisu using Charm I guess. Then send your Mightyena and use Sand Attack until hopefully he has -6 accuracy while paralyze. It'll make it very hard for him to hit something but you still need to get lucky. Now I don't remember if he has Power Whip or Giga Drain :s After that, use Bite with Mightyena so the flinch chance adds up as well, if he dies you can hopefully finish him off with alot of Ducklett's Aerial Ace. If you are willing to change your team however, you can catch the Pansear (I believe he's the only fire type avaliable except for the starters? I might be wrong now too) or the Gothita (Tangrowth in it's pulse form is Grass/Poison iirc). Then you'll just have to Fake Tears it with Swirlix and those will easily take it out. I never tried to poison it but if it's possible then you can try that as well, Chickorita learns Poisonpowder on level 9 so if you have it on Bayleef you can stall him out with that. If you get really desperate you can grind Ducklett to level 27 where he learns Air Slash and use common candies on him to get back to level 25. Then you definitely won't lose. Good luck Edited August 4, 2014 by Rewer
Halife
Mega Tangrowth has the "Filter" ability, so even with fire attacks(or any other supereffective move) you will just deal 1.5x dmg. So if you have better stab attacks use your stabs. Edited August 4, 2014 by Halife
Sapphire
Grab the Magikarp from the salesman, make it a Gyarados, and Dragon Rage the hell out of that thing.
DJ Mewdeon ft Dan Punk
Grab the Magikarp from the salesman, make it a Gyarados, and Dragon Rage the hell out of that thing. Magikarp was removed in an earlier episode, Seccy.

Velocirapture
Isn't Pulse Tangrowth grass/poison type? It's the only pokemon, so it won't swap into toxic spikes anyway (though you'll be facing another Pulse Tangrowth later with other pokemon before it), but with my Trubbish, I swear poison moves hit it for regular damage. Anyway, Trubbish will help, as it will eat up pretty much any damage Tangrowth doles out due to its decent bulk and typing. Acid spray may be weak, but it lowers Tangrowth's special defense by two stages, so after three hits it'll do heavy damage. But yeah, as Jericho said, you don't need a highly specialized team to take out Tangrowth. Some grinding will help, and if you want a fire type, get a Bibarel and trade it to that guy in the Peridot ward for a Litleo.
lyxmei
Thank you all so much! I'll definitely do some grinding and grab either a fire type or Trubbish.
TurboAura
Since somehow it was skipped over, you can get a Litleo for a Bibarel in a house by the train track, happy hunting.
