Overworld Sprites Fishing Bike Run Walk Tauros Rider Surf/Dive Edit :Kuro is complete but will have a final adjustment later.Edit: Below here is where I first started spriting so they're not at the best quality.I didn't know where to put this so please let me know if I'm posting in the wrong place. Now I don't know what was going through my mind at the time but I thought it would be cool to have outfits for the main characters when the weather is really hot or something. It just made sense at the time so I spent tons of hours making these. Alice was first so I think she needs a lot of work. As a matter of fact I'm planning on editing them both. These are the concepts I had in mind. Keep in mind that this is my first time editing sprites. I thought it would make sense if her hair was tied up in a pony tail although I particularly do like the look of high ponytails on women in general. I guess that's what women do in the summer anyway since all that hair could get sticky. She needs work in a couple of places particularly I think I'll have to draw the legs instead of pasting the fighter girls.I really like how Lucia came out. It was when I started working on her that I learned to turn anti aliasing off. Plus I couldn't simply paste someone's sweat pants on her since I didn't have internet at the time so I had to draw them. I was surprised to find out that drawing with the mouse wasn't extremely difficult. She didn't seem to need a ponytail with her hair tied up as is. Besides I couldn't think of a hair design that would be different but stay true to her character. I need help with learning how to make the wrinkles on her pants. They seem a little strange. So what do you guys and gals think? You can save the images and replace the trainer cards character sprites would these if you want. I checked first so I can say it works. By the way I used Paint.net and I'm open to using other free software if you've got any suggestions because this took a while for me to get it to look somewhat decent. Not just a simple cut and paste project I literally had to make sure those pixels would blend by using the pencil tool and magic brush to get the shading to look right. I would very much appreciate some feedback or constructive criticism. Especially if you happen to be a pixel artist. I sort of need help learning the trade. Administrators Amethyst Posted August 16, 2014 Administrators Share Posted August 16, 2014 Not bad. The problem with Lucia's pants is that they're done at a 1x resolution where the sprite is otherwise at a 2x. This also looks to be the case with Alice's right arm and bits of her cut-off jacket. It's important to keep the resolution consistent firstly for usability, and secondly because otherwise it looks rather strange. This is also part of the problem with the wrinkles. In addition to the resolution, the lines you have on Lucia's pants don't really seem to make sense for the direction fabric falls. This is a general art thing, but I would recommend you reference some existing picture to see how pants like that might fold. Finally, those lines aren't especially blended-- it's basically solid black on solid white. Normally you would want to use the number of grey tones and shades to easy the folds lighter or darker in some places to give an illusion of depth. Wolfox
I must say that I'm verry inpressed, and can you maybe do try and do the White hair guy?(don't know the names T.T) as for the little flaws don't let that pull you down! they are amazing ly done and you deserve a KUDOS
Sutoratosu
what a misleading title...I came here expecting to see some Minecraft Art dedicated to Reborn. These are pretty good for a first timer, keep it up.
Saber12
Sorry I've only got Lucia today. I spent quite a lot of time learning graphics gale however I was frustrated with the fact that I couldn't use the magic wand to select and draw over colors the way I do in paint.net. It was worth learning because that custom grid saved me so much time. This is how far I got with getting Lucia to two times the resolution. There was a lot of clean up work here to get her to twice the resolution. After checking the original sprite I noticed for every pixel I drew on her pants 4 of them were used as a whole pixel. She looks a bit clearer now that I've almost fully sorted it out.(still have to check some shaded areas) I got rid of the wrinkles for now since those details can wait until I have a clear picture of the directions they should follow. Thanks for the advice Ame. I must say that I'm verry inpressed, and can you maybe do try and do the White hair guy?(don't know the names T.T) as for the little flaws don't let that pull you down! they are amazing ly done and you deserve a KUDOS You're talking about Kuro. I haven't finalized a concept yet but he and Vero are somewhat finished as far as what I think I should do about there outfits. Thanks by the way. what a misleading title...I came here expecting to see some Minecraft Art dedicated to Reborn. These are pretty good for a first timer, keep it up. Thanks I hope to continue strong. Maybe I should title it sprite fan art if it isn't too late. I want to finish Lucia and Alice first and then get to the guys. Although I don't no how long it'll take, I'll see how everything goes from here. Edit: Oh my goodness I must have dozed after noticing those white outlines above. This version has been edited a bit at twice the resolution. I decided to use highlights to give her a more visible collar bone. The outline is a little bit smoother. That just leaves the shading for the pants and adding wrinkles. Edited August 18, 2014 by Saber12
Momotaro
I don't know why, but every time i scroll down, I see Lucia's pants get baggier and baggier. Though I would like to see a rendition of her wearing short pants or something along with that top. If you can do such a thing in your spare time. Saber12
I don't know why, but every time i scroll down, I see Lucia's pants get baggier and baggier. Yeah they started to bag quite a lot afterwards but now... Those pants have been toned down a bit. I guess I'll take a break from working on Lucia with this considered semi done. I gave the wrinkles a shot after looking at a few references. I'm not too confident about my skill on making wrinkles but I like the way they came out compared to when I started. Let me know if you like it. On-wards to Alice! Though I would like to see a rendition of her wearing short pants or something along with that top. If you can do such a thing in your spare time. Well I was actually planning on changing all the sprites that were associated with the characters like the overworld sprites. Although I guess the pants wouldn't make much of a difference in this case. Could you be more specific on what kind of short pants or do you mean just shorts instead? Edit: Alice is up and boy do I like how she turned out. Overall I'm glad I made most of these changes. However, because I drew her whole right arm I'm not quite satisfied with how it looks but as of now I'm not sure where to start on fixing it. Well I brought back her original legs and shoes and recolored them. Her ponytail is a little shorter this time around. I'm thinking about editing the ponytail more but I like this subtle difference from Julia's as is for now. Her collar bone is barely there but I fit it in somehow. The jacket seems a bit bigger but I'm ok with that and her bra is a little more sporty just as I hoped. I'm going to edit my original post so everyone can see the current versions of them right away instead of having to scroll down through all the posts. Let me know what you all think about her and Lucia. Now I need to get a concept for Vero and Kuro. All I know is that its for a really hot weather so I'll need something appropriate for them. Saber12
Here's the design for Vero. I figured it would be best to post the overall concept before I get too deep into it. I had a suggestion for giving him a short sleeved shirt and cargo shorts but I decided to wait before I'd add in that detail. For now I gave him an underarmor T-shirt to make him look a bit built. However I didn't want to make him a bulky muscle head so I didn't try to add any bulges. Suggestions for changing his appearance are welcome as I'm still working on him. Otherwise I'll touch him up a bit more and start working on Kuro. I know you'll probably say she looks the same but her right arm was really shaded sloppy the first time around so I had to do something. I also recolored so she wouldn't have the color blue anywhere. The main characters are all mostly wearing white and black so I figured it would be wrong for me not to follow the original choice of colors. Other than that the edits are a few minor pixels and probably not very noticeable. Once Kuro is done I'll be working on the other sprite forms like the overworld sprite and back animation. Until then comments and suggestions are welcome.
Sheep
Something looks a bit off about Vero's legs. I'm not sure how to describe it, but smeared is the first thing that comes to mind. These are fantastic though, keep up the good work. If there's the possibility of these getting added into reborn for hot days, I'd be all for it. Additionally, once you're done with the hot weather stuff would you consider designing some warmer outfits for colder days? Edit: This is just me but I think it's a bit odd that Vero would choose to keep his gloves on when dressing for a hot day. Saber12
Bam! Concepts are finally all together. Check out Kuro's new look. As I did with Vero, I decided not to get too detailed and focused on making the concept. There's a bit of shading that could be cleaned up but for now lets focus on the overall look. Since he has long hair, he'd most likely have to tie it up too but it's shorter than Alice's hair hence the short ponytail. I also wanted to play off of Alice's style and give him a vest as well. I also thought he might look better overall if his shirt was sleeveless. I am unsure if I should have left him that muscle bulk in his arms. Although I like giving him the bulk I'm interested in other peoples opinions about giving him this look. I'm open to suggestions for him now that he's up. First thing I'll do is get the hard part out of the way which is the back sprite animation. Hopefully Lucia or Alice won't give me too much trouble. Don't forget I'm still working on Kuro and suggestions are welcome. Something looks a bit off about Vero's legs. I'm not sure how to describe it, but smeared is the first thing that comes to mind. Edit: This is just me but I think it's a bit odd that Vero would choose to keep his gloves on when dressing for a hot day. Those legs are troubling me as well. Currently I don't have a solution except experiment till something works. I have a few idea's for winter outfits but I'm not sure how fast I can make them. I don't think I can finish them before episode 13 but it would be nice if I did. I thought about taking off the gloves but they look so good on him though! I don't really have a good excuse for keeping them on him except he looks like he's ready to work up a sweat.....which you might not want to do in burning hot weather. I don't know I could try taking them off and maybe give him a wristband or something. Actually I may have to do that with Alice and Lucia too. You could wipe the sweat away from your eye's with a wristband so that might work. Thank you Sheep. Edit: By the way everyone all the current sprites are at the top of the thread. Saber12
Whats the secret to success? Suffering. Well I was afraid and uncertain of how the back sprite animation for Alice would turn out. I couldn't be sure that it would at least work. In the end I got something decent and worthy of further edits. If I struggled doing this I can't imagine the difficulty of making a sprite animation from scratch. All I can say is that the concept of Alice is at least here. I figured she'd be the hardest with the high ponytail and all. I guess the rest will be easy except for...dang it Kuro! Well I'll have to come back and edit the ponytails after finding good references. Other than that please tell me any odd things you notice. There's likely to be something strange about her. 10/10 IGN Now I don't wanna be that guy that complains about minor set backs so I just wanna ask something(please don't take this offenced) wil there also be back.overworld sprites later on? Yes. I'm going all the way. I probably should have said that in my original post. I'm altering every instance you see the main characters which includes overworld sprites, vs mugshots, trainer cards and the backsprite animations. Don't worry I've no reason to take offense. This is the first time I've actually gotten requests and I wouldn't take offense unless I made it clear for people to stop asking. Looks interesting. Are you planning to have every major trainer (leaders, Meteor, etc) in summer clothes? Now this right here....nah I'm just kidding. I honestly never thought about doing it for the all major characters. However Victoria being a user of fighting types crossed my mind and so did Amaria(I remember someone drawing her in a nice outfit but I don't remember where though it was on the reborn website in one of these forums). I didn't exactly want to label them summer clothes but as long as everyone knows that travelers wear these outfits for a hot climate I guess summer clothes fits. I won't say yes because I'm not sure if I can make these outfits for everyone but I won't entirely rule it out since some of them don't have back sprites. For now I think I'll plan for a few extra characters and expand depending on which major characters are desired most by the community in a summer outfit. First thing I can't forget though is to finish the main characters outfits. Actually, this would be pretty cool if you could manage it. I see that you at least considered my advice for Vero's outfit. Kudos on both him and Kuro. Thanks a lot. It was either I take your advice or have him shirtless Gray style. Anyone willing to test the animation is welcome. I tried it myself and I thought it was somewhat normal however I've been looking at it forever. Tell me what you think I haven't forgotten about updating Vero and Kuro for any errors. It shouldn't take too long to fix any oddities. . Edited August 26, 2014 by Saber12

Saber12
Look out. Updates coming through! Vero's been given a little bit more detail. I had to tone it down a bit because he started to look really old. For now he's a bit more muscular. I'd don't know which looks the better the gloves or the wristband but I'll let all of you decide. Just a few edits here really. Small changes for her skin and neck region. I added a wristband and I gave the wrinkles another shot. For the wrinkles I started to think less is more so I like where these are going but I also want to hear other peoples opinions on her. Not much to say except I gave her a wristband to match the back sprite animation. Comments are still welcome. The edits here are also very minor. Just a little smoothing in the pants and a few added highlights. This was difficult. The animation itself works fine. The detail is what I'm struggling with here. I don't think I'll come back to working on this unless I have some sort of direction because that ponytail would constantly seem like he was wearing it to the sides like Hatsune Miku. Don't be afraid to critique this because I'm lost on what to do and where to go on making it any better. With that said I'll be working on the back sprites next for Vero and Lucia. I think they'll be easier to deal with but I know better than to underestimate this kind of stuff. Tell me if you notice anything strange about the backsprite animations. Till then, thanks for keeping up with me!
Saber12
Surprise! If you thought I was done today you're gladly mistaken my friends. Reintroducing the beautiful warrior Lucia!!! This was done very quickly so as I said before pleas tell me if you notice anything strange. Although I highly recommend testing out the animation first with the game just so you know how fast it is. I think I'll call it a night and save Vero's backsprite for sometime in the near future. Until then, please tell me what you think.
Saber12
I wanted to put Lucia and Vero in the same post but I struggled with him for a while. This finishes the concepts for the backsprite animations. I just decided to go with the gloves because it was faster and I really need to focus on at least having all the concepts together. If any of you notice anything strange with the shading or size of a body part or something , let me know so I can at least try to make a correction. Overall I think he came out ok but I think I could of done better. Last two things will be transitions and overworld sprites then the characters alternative outfits will be complete. Comments are welcome.
Saber12
I'm almost finished. Its been awhile but I wanted to get all four of the transitions up at once. Here they are: This one was first to be made and very difficult to make. I'm going to come back to her in the future. Any ideas for improving the ponytail? Even more difficult than her. I'm not sure if I got it right but if you notice anything strange let me know. Very easy and quick to make. I like it but comments are welcome Also very easy and quick to make. If you think his armpits look sweating that I may have to cut back on the shading. We're coming to the end of the sunny day outfits. All thats left are the overworld sprites. I don't know when I'll finish them all but I'll update this post more frequently for those. Until then tell me what you think.

Saber12
Just thought I'd chip in and say that looks fantastic! Keep up the good work. Thanks I appreciate it. That's some gdlk spriting, yo. Very well done. Thanks! I'm glad to see people pleased. As of now Alice's alternate outfit is complete as of episode 12. I think I'll update them one last time before I consider them done. Walk. Run. Bike. Fishing. This was pretty difficult. I basically made every mistake that Ame's video's told me not to do. Hopefully Kuro won't take as long even though I know he'll be just as difficult. The good news is that everything is animated correctly (no leftover pixels or overlapping pixels in animations). I'm just not sure if I should leave these overworld sprites alone or make a few adjustments. Tell me what you think. Comments and critiques are welcome. Until then we'll see how I do. Sheep
The only thing I might have done differently (if I had any spriting skills), is have the ponytail move slightly every second frame of running, or at the appropriate times when fishing. If that's too much, then these look great.

Alaris
You have to draw them in half resolution, then resize the sprites to the resolution they were at first. Also, try to think where the light would come from and draw the shadows according to it (for example, there's not any trace of shadows on the gloves).
