[Plain and simple. Life Orb and Swords Dance augment its usually mediocre attack stat. Close Combat's power is more than enough incentive to use it over gimmicky options such as Sacred Sword. Stone Edge hits flying Pokemon, and Iron Head is a solid secondary STAB attack. Cobalion's ability Justified works quite well with its x4 resistance to Dark and the attack boost is quite relevant. To set up, one should take advantage of Cobalion's natural bulk, as well as its typing. Being immune Toxic is quite useful, though you must always beware of burns. They will essentially make you useless.]

Cobalion is an awesome Pokemon, with 129 base defense, a great bunch of support moves to choose from (even before the move tutors came along), and appreciable offenses including great Speed, making it easily my favorite legendary.[b] Sacred Sword[/b] is its signature move, and is better in a support role than Close Combat not only because of its Defenses but because it also ignores defensive stat changes, meaning pokemon like Snorlax and Clefable can't set up on it safely. It might be better to paralyze it with [b]Thunder Wave[/b] first, but if you get a shot to 2HKO the Pokemon, you might as well just pummel them straight up. [b]Stealth Rock[/b] is a new option thanks to the B/W 2 move tutors and it makes Cobalion a better lead. If [b]Roar[/b] is paired up with Stealth Rock or Thunder Wave, it's clear that Cobalion's purpose is to cripple the entire team with either damage or paralysis. [b]Volt Switch[/b] is the final move that lets Cobalion do damage on the way back to its Poke Ball.

While Cobalion isn't as specially dangerous as its jackal counterpart Lucario, it does have some things that set it apart from Lucario including, but not limited to:[list]

[*]Access to Volt Switch
[*]More support options including Stealth Rock and Thunder Wave (although that doesn't really matter with this set)

It has mo more than four usable special moves, but that's enough to have a kickass Specs set. [b]Flash Cannon [/b]will be the move that saves your ass most of the time, as it is STAB and nothing's immune to it (although it will take a dozen shots at least to take down Heatran, and you'll be dead by then). [b]Focus Blast[/b], while it's unreliable, will be the better offensive move overall at 270 base. [b]Hidden Power [Dark][/b] OHKOs Chandelure, and that's very much appreciated. It even gives Cobalion a sting factor. [b]Volt Switch[/b] can make Cobalion into a Genesect-style scout and do some serious damage while he's at it, also hitting neutral any Pokemon that resists both Flash Cannon and Focus Blast; however, it will be mainly used for picking off weakened Pokemon.
