    Jan

warning. lots of words that don't mean jack shit below. view at your own discretion.

Just another general update! I've been working hard on the game, but I've also been feeling pretty demotivated and burned out lately. Mainly due to me being home all the time and not being able to get out as much. You'd think I'd get a lot more done with the massive amount of time I've had, yeah? Hahaha, no. In fact, I've been slower because of all of this.(More of this rant below!!!)

    Depression.png

Because of that I've taken a week off. Like... actually. An entire week. I've done nothing. Man did it feel awesome. (Afterwards, during the break I was bored as hell.)
Imagine that. Taking genuine breaks HELPS your motivation and mood. ???? Sounds fake, but okay... Anyway.

I've switched my focus to working primarily on v13 story content. I feel like if I have that out of the way, releasing v13 will feel... Idk. Possible?

    *Cough*

Well, it's the end of August. That means we're all going back to school... Huh? You're done with school? Y-You graduated? Well... Courtesy of me, I've re-enrolled you! Who's ready for a new semester of dreams and nightmares?? You are!I

    Spoiler

    ---REJUV MK UPDATE---

As well as working on main content mostly, @andracass helped us create our own MK build! Starting V13, Rejuv will have MK support. There are still a few things that need to be ironed out, but things are looking really promising!

As for Mac support... We have something for that too! Mac users won't be left out B).

    ---Puzzle time Baybeee---

One thing I've been trying to do in past areas is add more puzzles. Most of these puzzles aren't difficult. They're just there to add some sort of interactivity in places that have gameplay luls. I've created some things that I'm proud of, but coming up with puzzles in RPGMaker seems impossible to me sometimes. I'm the first one to admit that I'm not excellent at making them, but I would like to be! If you guys have any puzzle concepts to share, I'd be happy to hear them!

    I beg you.

    ---When is V13 dropping?---

Short answer: Still trying for this year.

Long Answer: My goal is to have it out by the end of the year, but that's still only 3 months from now. I've seen people get annoyed with me because of the long wait, but I assure you no one is more annoyed than I. Like I said in the beginning of this post. I've been burned out and unmotivated all year. I'm not going to sit here and lie about my productivity. I said I've been working hard on the game, it's true. But that wasn't the case for the majority of the year.

    There were days where I would do one event and just feel done. I've felt guilty about it, but I've also just felt numb to the fact that I pretty much just vegetated this year. Everytime I felt like things were getting better, things would knock me down another peg. It's been a cycle since February. Aghjgfsghskjlghsdgjds;jgsdh;

I've read articles about how this isn't a problem exclusive to me. Working productivity for tons of people have been almost 0 this year. With circumstances I don't have to repeat because we all know-- It's just difficult. I just try to tell myself that next year will be better. Whether that's a blatant lie or not doesn't matter. It's there for a sense of purpose.

If I can sum up this year for me in one image, it'd be:

    Spoiler

    mwQwF9w_d.webp?maxwidth=728&fidelity=gra

    and that's all it is.

That being said, we've gotten progress up to 71%!! Even though most of that is bloated because of a lot of smaller things getting done... It still looks nice and is a motivating factor for me! Still have a lot of sidequests to do and I have to finish the main story (Which is over 50% done now!).

Alright that's enough rambling. I'm done. I promise. Rejuv v13 hopefully drops this year. If not, early 2021. Definitely not any later than that. Then onto v14...

    Ha.

    HAhahahaha.

    I can't wait for v14. 🙂

All of your (and everyone else's) hard work is very appreciated! Your health is more important than getting new verisions out a month earlier. One thing that I've found really helpful to stay sharp and motivated during these tough times is to try to find the willpower to get regular exercise. The hardest part is making the decision to do it, but after you start doing it then it's a breeze. You don't realize how sluggish your mind and body are until you get the blood flowing. And even if you want to look at it from a raw mathematical standpoint, the increase of efficiency and productivity during the rest of the day as a result of exercise far outweighs the time spent exercising. Speaking of which, typing this out has made me decide to go for a run right after I'm done with this post.

As far as puzzle ideas go, I'll admit this is taken from Pokemon XD, but I always thought the Battle CDs concept was cool. If you don't know what those are, they're simulated battles where you're given a specific Pokemon/couple of Pokemon, and you have to battle a specific Pokemon/couple of Pokemon in a singles or doubles battle. These battles require a you to figure out the right strategy/sequence of moves in order to win, and it essentially turns the battles into puzzles to find the right solutions. What's great about these are that they require you to use mechanics that you don't normally see, such as using Gust to hit a Pokemon during the Fly turn. Here is example of one of them (this was before Ghost-types were immune to Shadow Tag):

    788fd741a4ad147f47d6a268ada48dac.png

Making these battles occur on all sorts of fields would add a lot of variety. You could easily come up with creative puzzles, such as requiring the player use a move to change the field as the "solution" to win the battle.

Again, thanks for all of the work, and I'm off to go on that run!

Edit: Making a late edit here so this might not even be seen but here's an example of a cool puzzle you could do.

    Your pokemon: https://pokepast.es/aedffbfac3828006

    Your opponent: https://pokepast.es/f2aa387f6b433283

    Field: Cave Field

    Solution:

    Spoiler

On both turns, have Togetic use Follow Me and have Aron use Bulldoze. On the second turn, Aron's second Bulldoze will collapse the cave, KOing all Pokemon. However, Aron has Sturdy and it will still be intact due to both Togetic using Follow Me, allowing it to survive the cave collapse.

This is not too difficult of a puzzle, but it is a great way of demonstrating a lot of the field mechanics.

This year has been pretty rough. I have struggled with demotivation throughout this whole year. Seeing the game getting closer to a 100% gives me motivation to keep going. I really love Rejuv, but I love the developers even more for working so hard on this game, despite the circumstances.

Stay safe, stay positive and help eachother through these tough times!

Joke's on you, you can't re-enroll me when I'm already enrolled in a school. 😛

I'd rather you take care of yourself over stressing yourself out over everything. Take the time you need! And I take it Zumi's streaming helped you relax, minus the Venusaur.

    No need to rush, Jan
Take your time, we are all kinda effed because of this pandemic anyways so I'm sure we all feel ya..
Just work on it when you feel better, it's not good to work on something while demotivated both for yourself and your own work, it's OK to take breaks every now and then.

Just stay safe and take care of yourself, for more than I am itching to play your game I can, and will, wait for as long as necessary.

Can't wait to go and explore all of the nooks and crannies of A.H. It is going to be a fun ride for version 13 and take all of the time you need to finish it, not like someone in the game is going to get King Dragon's regards.

Hearing you enjoy yourself on Zumi's stream was more awesome to see than the dev update tbh. You two are a superhero team of entertainers! You keep truckin at your own pace, mate. We'll continue to do our job as fans and introduce your masterpiece to the whole world.

I'll also be starting graduate school this coming Monday, so let's suffer through school together! Woohoo! Go team! Yay.....

For a complete summation of this entire message: Much love Jan. Don't have much more to say than that. Much love.

Absolutely take your time. I understand the issue of burnout and this year in general has been pretty rough. But I think most folks here will fully understand if you need to put development on pause. Ultimately, what's most important is not sticking by some kind of arbitrary deadline, but it's for you to care for your own health, physical and, more importantly, mental.

To be honest I'm kind of impressed that development is this far during current circumstances and that you're still going, you should definitely take a break, since you've got the right to do so and no one is holding you back.

also on another note I've gotten a pretty great puzzle idea. The garufa tribe is known for experimenting with pokemon right and also stealing their energy into their hearts, what if you make a door or something, where you are required to bring a certain type of pokemon found in the surrounding area's. They can be of a specif mon or something with type ressitance, you could even trow a pokemon weight in the equation. By the way I've gotten this concept from a game i played a few years back named World of final fantasy.

    also take care

Honestly when I wrote this my mind was halfway through september. don't ask why because I really don't have an answer for you LOL.

Hey man, don't ever feel pressured to get the game out as soon as possible by people who are "annoyed" at the release taking longer than they expected. You're developing this game for free, and are doing it solely out of passion and to provide the community with entertaining content. Take as much time as you need, because I know how it feels to have struggles with motivation and productivity, and working on fan games is no easy task. Otherwise, you've knocked it out of the park, these updates are really interesting to read and the new developments to older and new areas are beautiful. To you and the rest of the development team, keep up the good work!

Pretty sure I'm like the last person to try and be supportive.  Might sound weird.

But, uh...seeing all these comments about demotivation and such, I can't really relate--because I've never known comfort, peace, or things like that.  I'm a trauma survivor--of many different kinds of trauma, all severe--and it's impossible for me to be comfortable with people, in any circumstance, online or offline.  Maybe some people here recognize me because of the incredibly long post I made in the "emotional-support" channel in the Discord server--and I left the server after that, out of sheer discomfort and just...not being okay with people at all.

So...I'm sorry.  I can't really relate or connect with what you're feeling, or what anyone else feels, either.

At the same time, though, I can't help at least trying to reach out in spite of all this.  I hear the "you're not alone" thing all the times, and it really doesn't help me because from the moment I was born, I was alone.  I never learned how to turn to others--if anything, I learned that humans are not to be trusted, ever.  I've been dealing with my hells all alone because of all that.  Nobody should have to.  So, I dunno...I guess I just wanted to try and give you a tiny fraction of the respect, dignity, and compassion I was denied my whole life.  And I'm probably failing, honestly.

Rejuvenation is great--and a nice escape.  I don't know if it helps for someone who's as detached from humanity (whatever that even means, because I sure as hell don't know) to say that, but...yeah.  Just take your time--and breaks, as much as you need.

I know I'm extremely late, but please, by all means, take your time with the V13 update. This is a passion project for you, and while it may be frustrating having deadlines set that you're not reaching, at the end of the day you'd much rather release the work when it's your best. Don't let others rush you. I've seen your updates such as the Goldenleaf Town(for v13) and it's beautiful. it is absolutely worth the wait for you and for the rest of us.

Besides that, doing as much as you can for V13 will alleviate lots of pressure on your back when it comes to creating the versions beyond that.

Above all else, don't push yourself. Both your mental and physical health comes first. Take care.

I love your game, take as much as time you need. I am sure everyone here feels the same way lockdown and quarantine. I hope you are doing well.

We can always replay the game with different difficulties or with different choices 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I think that we all understand that due to the amount that needed to be put in (gen 8) and the fact that the plague has kicked the entire world in the sensitive bits, you have less motivation to work. Don't let yourself feel bad that you aren't putting out something right this moment, because something delayed can be good eventually, while something rushed is bad forever.

Dude, you are doing a great job, but please  take care of your mental health, and remember to don't burn yourself out.

Remember, mimikyu will still love you even if you delay the chapter's release.

Hey Jan, while I understand feeling guilty for lacking in productivity, you're making a free game for people and you also added in a whole new generation of pokemon with new rules and new moves. Take all the time you could need, I'm looking forward to seeing V13 once its ready. Thanks for the game!

Damn bro, I started reading this and almost immediately started worrying about you.

Maybe it's coincidence or something, today 2 years ago I sent feedback on V10, an email to tell you how much this game changed my life.
Since then I "learned" to do the things that bring me joy and happiness, to pursue what fuels my motivation and understood that some of the best things take time.

Take the time you need, you have been chipping at this project all year, give yourself some credit because you deserve it :)

    Can't wait for V13 14 too

so what's the difference between the current build and the mk build?

Much better performance on newer pcs for the most part as it's a far more modern engine! The game will run far faster and smoother, and there's barely any lag. It'll be slower on older pcs unfort, but we've been able to optimize the RMXP port (aka the current engine) game for a good chunk thanks to the help of Cass that we've been getting, so there should still be a noticeable difference between V12 and V13 for those who are using the RMXP version of the game -- especially during battles, where the brief lag before move animations playing is no longer an issue.

Sorry for the late response but what areas do you need puzzles for (like should they be for forests, cities, caves, volcanos, icy caves, oceans, some other areas)?

I'm not guaranteeing that I will have any ideas but if I know what area they would be used for I might be able to come up with some.

Besides I would love to help out one of my favourite fan games.

  • V14 is still very much in active development! We just can't show anything that's not OOC nonsense from the devs because it's all spoilers. Sorry!

As of 26/10/2024... Paragon Part 1 of V14 is complete, and Part 2 and 3 are being worked on! Renegade has not been touched yet. Please bear with us 🙏

Enjoy some more nonsense in the meantime!
